“This is a must on a sunny day!”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Starting from the campground is best. The track is wonderful on the bottom and the top portions, but a little rough and sometimes narrow in the midsection. The payoff is wonderful, I was surprised by all the icebergs in the lake. Great setup with picnic tables set in just the right place for glacier, lake, and Mount Cook views. Take a lunch.

I'd also recommend starting early as this is a popular trail. When we arrived at trail's end, there were less than 10 people there. We lingered about 40 minutes and there were probably 4 dozen when we left and we passed many people on the way up.

“Easy to negotiate and beautiful scenery”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Start from the campground, cuts an hour off the hike and you don't miss anything. From the campground, round trip they say 3 hours but you can do it in 2.5 hours if you keep a decent pace. Three suspension bridges keep the hike fun and you end at the glacier and glacier lake below Mt. Cook, which was quite beautiful...and there was an iceberg on the lake. Definitely a must-do hike when you're visiting Mount Cook Village.

Not difficult, but very rewarding with great views along and at the end of the trail. We were blessed with great weather, so it was great. Worth the walk

“If you're lucky with the weather this is one stunning walk!”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

We've been two mount cook twice and driven by the road end with the intention of going if the weather was good enough. You have to get lucky with the weather when visiting this area of New Zealand but if you do the Hooker Valley walk is one of the best walks you'll ever do. The views of Hooker Lake, the Mueller Glacier and Aoraki Mount Cook are absolutely stunning and completely breathtaking.

If you do the walk please take the time to take in the views from a few different angles. Down by the lake is best for photography and further up the valley on the right (another 0.5km from the tables) give you amazing views on top of a large mound of rock debris. We even managed to get a bit of the glacier for a taste. Take some whisky for an unforgettable experience (we forgot ours!)
