I've never stayed at a poor MacDonald hotel & this was no exception. The hotel was well maintained, spotlessly clean, v well equipped (rooms, health spa, pool, etc) and the staff were wonderful. We felt like genuine 'guests' rather than customers. MacDonald do seem to have a nack of employing staff with exactly the right balance of professional politeness, efficiency & warmth.
The new year's Hogmany package was great value for money, really well done & we had a great stay.
My only gripe is that H/O has lost my loyalty points reference & the Tanqueray Gin at £12.50 is a disgraceful price!! You should be ashamed.
Other than that, we had a great time & I couldn't fault them. Seriously, the staff deserve a bonus!

Room Tip: The rooms in the main building with the balconys on the front of the hotel are perfect for early mor...

Had a meal at rafters bistro and instead of being offered seasonal scottish fare such as venison or pheasant. we were offered cannaloni, macaroni, linguine, risotto, lasgne, and pizza. Fine if the hotel was in italy but not in scotland. Maybe the head chef used to work in frankie and bennys.
Rafters has a lot of potential but maybe needs new direction

Dear Guest
Many thanks for your comments . am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the experiences that you received whilst staying with us. It is always our intention that our guests receive an enjoyable experience whilst dining at Forest hills and we would strive to improve this where this has not been the case.
However I am somewhat puzzled by your comments regarding the lack of Scottish produce on the menu, as we offer dishes made with McSweens Haggis, John Ross Junior Smoked Salmon, Aberdeen Angus sirloin and rib eye steaks and many other seasonal and traditional dishes. We find that these along with the international dishes such as pizza and pasta offer all our guests the widest choices possible. Alternativley we do have the 1 AA Rosette Garden restaurant which offers a more traditional menu based on fresh locally sourced produce.
Kind regards

We stayed for the night on 13 January 2013. A gift from our daughter and we were just expecting the usual kind of Macdonald welcome (which is always fantastic, in our experience). We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms, and have to say they were beautifully decorated and upholstered. Dinner was fantastic, and we had good fun in the lounge in front of the fire that night. Playing dominoes and performing card tricks on the staff!!! We confused the breakfast times, and were kindly rang in the morning to be reminded of the correct times, and breakfast was kept for us, which we thought was a lovely personal touch, we will look forward to returning with our family, our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay an extra night, due to childcare arrangements at home!! The spa staff were fab too. A credit to the Macdonald Resorts Brand. Well done everyone.

Room Tip: we stayed in the main hotel above reception. Couldn't fault the room and facilities.

I have stayed in many hotels over the years and this is the first time I have been compelled to write a review. Stopped in a family room for 4 nights from New Years Day and had a really fantastic break. It rained for much of the break which meant we spent more time than usual at the hotel.
We stayed in Room 108 which was a corner room with balcony with a view of the lake - that was a bonus but was not an essential factor to the stay being so good.
What my family and I were so impressed about was that every single member of staff dealt with everything with such a nice manner, from the reception staff when we first arrived, Particular mention must go to the excellent waiting staff in the superb garden restaurant - the quality of the food and service was exceptional - manner just right for adults and children alike.

There was also childrens activities and my children also particularly enjoyed the pool with the weather being as it was.

Will definitely return. A credit to Macdonald Hotels. Well done.

My husband and I spent a week at Forest Hills over the New Year on a DBB basis which was more than great value for money. The food in the Garden Resturant was lovely with portions being more than enough. The New Years Eve Ball was fantastic - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The night consisted of a sumptous 5 course meal, a live band, disco and fireworks at midnight. The hotel is set in a national park and so is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Loch and mountains. Staff were professional and polite and most accomodating. We will definitely be returning. Well done to Ms. Stark & her team!

Our family spent a week over Christmas in the Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort & what a wonderful week it was.
We had a super two-bedroomed 6-sleeper apartment overlooking the tennis courts & loch & it is a stunning view in winter so must be absolutely amazing in Summer! The Lodge was very comfortable equipped with everything that was needed. I did take some of my own dishes & appliances but didn't have to as it really did have most stuff needed. I loved the open plan kitchen, living, dining area with the bedrooms, sauna & two of the 3 bathrooms on the upper level. The bed in the lounge area worked well for us - it was a pull out bed as opposed to a sleeper couch. Big bonus as we still had use of the couch even when the bed was down. The bed was a seamless part of the wall & drinks unit until you pulled it down - complete with mattress - when needed.
We did have an issue with the oven not working when we arrived, but that was instantly resolved by lovely polite staff replacing it the following day. On the whole the staff were lovely & very helpful throughout the Resort including the Hotel lounge, dining-room, spa & gym area. Always a smile & greeting from the groundsman through to lodge services & maintenance.
My daughter & her friend joined the walk activity one morning & said it was extremely good & that the guide was amazing!
We attended the Whiskey tasting & Boxing Day Ceilidh in the Hotel & thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Very good value as the food was lovely (no menu choice, but our entire party of 8 all ate what was served so the menu must have been well thought out) with an excellent Ceilidh band. Lovely folk at the Ceilidh as well so we had a wonderful evening. The service was good with cheerful waitresses & a knowledgable wine steward - not too common these days! The Whiskey tasting was also excellent. It was more of an entertainment with a tasting of whiskey rather than a pure whiskey tasting. The fabulous gent giving the talk was a knowledgeable orator & gave us a verbal tour of Scotland, & the Highlands, through history, which i enjoyed.
All in all the Resort managed to deliver a comfortable lodge that was clean with attentive & cheerful staff & value for money entertainment. The spa & pool area was a godsend with the inclement weather & overall our holiday was a thoroughly enjoyable experience - thank you!

Room Tip: although our lodge - Red Maple 4 was not a trendy designer decorated apartment, it was very comforta...

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to post such a wonderful review following your Christmas at Forest Hills.
The lodges are designed to provide the highest levels of comfort and are equipped to allow guests to cater for themselves.
I am also delighted that you enjoyed our ceilidh, the menu is indeed tried and tested and always proves popular and you then dance the night away to work off the sticky toffee pudding!

Our family have for the last 8 years visited Forest hills for our new year break and have just returned from our latest holiday, we had another lovely holiday this year in one of the lodges which has been newly refurbished but encountered some minor problems with the lodge and one major one which was the fact that there was no telephone service available in the lodge during our stay. As per previous years the staff at forest hills really are first class with Mr Eason and a lady called Davina at lodge services due special credit for going the extra mile to help. Rafters bistro has had a makeover since our last visit may I say (long overdue) but still in our opinion vastly overpriced for drinks both soft and alcoholic, tea, coffee etc ( management please note) the spa area could also be improved with both the the sauna and pool requiring attention.

Dear Guest

Thank your for posting a review following your annual visit to Forest Hills, I am delighted that you like to new style Rafters. I note your comments about the pricing but can advise that these have in fact been reduced following the reopening of Rafters and with owners discount we feel they are fair.
I have passed on your kind comments to Gordon and Davina both of whom are happy to have been of assistance.
Please accept my apologies about the phone lines, we have now located the fault and are in the process of having it repaired.
Kind regards
