“Quiet and peaceful break”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We stayed with friends at one of the lodges here. They are very well equipped and the weather made it as the sun was splitting the trees. The views are tremendous from the lodges and it is an ideal venue for anyone who likes the outdoors.

Room Tip: Lodges seem to be better than staying in the hotel

Just back from a week at Forest Hills. We were staying in the timeshare lodges and they are excellent. Well equipped and spotlessly clean.

There was a great variety of events organised by the hotel. Whisky tasting, wine tasting, quiz, and each day several activities for children. We went to clay pigeon shooting and very much enjoyed it. Gregor, the instructor was excellent and had great patience. This is Rob Roy country and Gregor also does a superb historical tour at his family farm a few yards from the hotel. This tour is very interesting and if you are interested in history, well worth attending.

There are a great many walks in this area and you can either go on the forest trails or for the more adventurous Ben Lomond is nearby. However the hotel organise walks and Arthur, who takes a couple of them is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area which makes everything very interesting.

Although we were staying in the timeshare lodges we did use the hotel which is beautifully appointed and the staff are excellent, very smart and polite.

We've just returned from a second visit to this lovely hotel.
The grounds and views of Loch Ard and the mountains are spectacular.
A very peaceful place to stay.
Make the most of the sunny terrace.
Take a steamer boat trip along Loch Katrine.

Long weekend away for a romantic holiday with my wife. Found the hotel easily but when arrived the staff were not at all welcoming. Grunted to by the receptionist who told us our room was not ready- at nearly 3pm?
Once we got into the room, the lights were dusty.
Breakfast was really good and the staff helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Book in advance

The hotel location is superb with views across to Ben Lomond. We really enjoyed all the outdoor areas, which were beautifully maintained. There are extensive gardens, outdoor giant chess and checkers sets, a duck pond, tennis courts, and a lovely terrace attached to the main hotel.

Our room was very good too - a generous size with a massive, comfy bed. Bathroom was large too, and everything was very clean. The mirror had something in it which prevented it misting up while you were in the shower - first time I have ever seen this, and very useful!

Staff were very friendly and polite throughout.

The restaurant had superb views and was nicely decorated. We did find some of the food and drink to be over-priced (although enjoyable).

The hotel is very dog friendly which was a massive plus for us.

What a brilliant holiday. The appartments and grounds are beautifully maintained. The views of Loch Ard from every lodge (balconies offer an opportunity to sit and realise how lucky we were) are just magnificent, rain or shine!
The food and service in the Bistro was excellent. The Maitre'd was very attentive and made sure everyone had what they needed - very professional.
The sunday lunch in the Hotel was disappointing. We had imagined better! Small amount of roast chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetables - no trimmings! Sad.
The Farm next door - Ledard Farm - was brilliant. We shot clay pigeons with the help of Gregor - a wonderful, patient host. We also spent an afternoon with Gregor for a history of the area and history of the farm (intertwined). Gregor is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable host and made us feel very welcome.
No visit to this area could miss The Wee Blether tea rooms. What a treat! We had lunch and coffee and a wonderful breakfast on different days. Lovely!

All in all a real treat of a holiday - even the weather was kind to us.

Room Tip: An appartment on the first floor gives better views. We stayed in Oak 2 and we were satified.
