We found this hotel the night before on the internet and were delighted with both its location and the quality of the accommodation. Perched on the hillside overlooking Loch Ard you could not wish for a better location in Scotland. It has great facilities and excellent rooms although we did think the price of the set menu at dinner was a little on the top side and was probably the reason it was quiet. The staff were attentive and helpful and booking last minute certainly paid off as we were given an upgraded room. I would recommend this hotel for its location alone...quite stunning and breathtaking views.

We took a self-catering lodge. Stunning location next to Loch Ard and some nice staff, but a place well past its best. Advertises wifi and interactive TV but didn't work and staff clearly know it doesn't. (When they say it's "intermittent", they mean you might get lucky after midnight.) Badly lagged immersion heater pumping out heat into the upstairs in the middle of summer, using electricity we paid for on a meter. Tennis courts look like they haven't been resurfaced in the last decade. Housekeeping staff left dirty linen in a basket at the foot of the stairs and in front of a fire escape overnight.
Some good things, particularly the pool and a dinner/ceilidh in the bistro, but you can do a lot better for the money, eg Auchrannie on Arran.

Our stay was genuinely amazing. The staff where more that helpful and made us feel very comfortable, we brought out miniature poodle with us, for us this was a massive selling point! The staff took the time to learn her name and also tried to be as accommodating as they possibly could be. We stayed in room 001 which had lovely views of the garden and loch. We dined at the Rafters, who again was very accommodating with regards to our dog. There was plenty to do, for us this included a spa treatment and a trip out on the loch in a canoe (yes with our dog). I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will certainly be back.

Location was fanatic and high hopes on arrival. These were quashed pretty quickly. Lunch on the terrace was like something out of faulty towers with dirty tables no one clearing dirty plates away and waiting over 40 mins for a mediocar sandwich which cost an arm and a leg we are still waiting on part of our order. Overhearing the table behind stating if the waiter apologises again he would knock good block of made me chuckle. Just get it right and you won't need to apologies. Dinner in the garden room was lovely and unlike lunch service was good, staff were lovely. However, not like one to complain and given the benefit of the doubt we headed for breakfast the next day. To our delight eggs benedict on the menu even if there was a 2.95 supplement each. Order in and enjoyed some toast. Bedlam ensued behind and hearing the waiter at the table behind us telling the newly named hyacinth bucket that there was no sugar in the kitchen and the chef said it was not his problem. Nearly choked on my toast 'not sure that should have been repeated to the guest' as you can imagine she threw a wobbler. Poor staff was my thought at that point. By now nearly an hour and still no breakfast thinking they had forgotten about us it appeared. Soggy muffins and eggs still with shells through it and a sauce that couldn't ever resemble hollandaise if it wore a jacket. Pure butter that had been under the grill and skinned over and split. Disgusting and I'm no expert but I can do a better sauce than that. Very disappointed we had no option to express our disappointed given that we were expected to pay a supplement. Such a shame as the staff are lovely if not all on the ball and the setting is fab

Beautifully situated overlooking the Loch. Great room (102) with balcony and splendid views. Dinners were good but not exciting. Breakfast had been sitting on the warming plate for too long.
The big let down was the housekeeping. The room was never properly cleaned and the bed was pulled up rather than being properly made up.

If you are looking for a quiet attractive spot then this fills the bill. Even with a large wedding party it was never noisy.

Room Tip: Room 102 has a balcony and great views

We dined in the Garden restaurant to celebrate our 35th Wedding anniversary and wished we ad given it a total miss. I had to give my name and lodge number numerous times to a variety of different staff which was a bit annoying. Our table had a fine view but the window was crawling with dead and dying flies. Not very hygienic at all. Service was shocking, no bread served, water never arrived, bill wrong and totally without any atmosphere. It is also a bit of a hike to the nearest toilet. Gone is the top class service of a year or two ago and the table cloths. The menu was the exact same as the year before and the menu card itself was dirty and marked. We will never dine here again even though we have a lodge there. The Forth Inn in Aberfolyle is way ahead of this trap. Avoid at all costs
