“A charming European hotel”

We stayed at Villa Moorings last October as part of our 2nd visit to Italy. We were visting at the end of their season but they could have not been more welcoming and accomodating. We enjoyed visiting with Beatrice in front of the fireplace to hear the history Villa Moorings, wonderful travel experience! The hotel is close to town, easy walk. Breakfast was unbelievable, all homemade and freshly baked items for just our family. Very clean and neat. If you are looking accomodations with a very local flavor, this is it!

We spent 4 nights here in August and had a lovely stay. The hotel is very comfortable with a really nice swimming pool and sun area. The interior of the hotel and the rooms are beautiful. We had a balcony which was beautiful for sitting out on and relaxing at the end of the day. The hotel is an ideal base for touring the Garfagnana region and is ideally situated for walking around both the new and old parts of Barga - a lovely little town. The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in Barga.

We spent 3 nights in this beautiful villa which is family run. It has original decor with beautiful views of the mountains. We stayed in a suite of 2 bedrooms and sharing bathroom. Very clean. It is located on the edge of the town of Barga, walking distance into the town. The hotel owners couldn't be more helpful, they even gave us a lift to visit friends in another villa. We really enjoyed our stay and would go back.

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful house. Before I went I had read about its history and it was good to see that it was still in the family. The interior is amazing and as soon as you enter the hall you feel at home. We had a junior suite which still had the original furniture in it so it made it seem more like a home rather than a hotel. Perhaps the shower in the bathroom could have been bigger and better given the size of the bathroom but a minor detail. We had 2 balconies and a terrace with wonderful views of the mountains. Breakfast was first class and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and Beatrice was an excellent host. Parking was on site and the swimming pool was a good size with plenty of loungers. Barga is a beautiful old town and this hotel was within easy walking distance of all restaurants, shops etc.. There was lots of information in the hotel regarding walks ,places of interest etc which was very helpful . We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

The three nights in June we spent at the Villa Moorings were delightful. The villa itself is an architectural treasure in the 'Liberty' style with many original furnishings to a very high standard. To stay here is to live briefly in an up-scale art deco villa, an easy 10 minute walk into the center of the old town of Barga but with a lovely terrace and swimming pool to enjoy. The junior suites are great, especially the one up in the tower with views of the mountains beyond. Breakfast is generous and all the staff efficient and very friendly. Beatrice was very helpful about sights to see and walks in the surrounding mountains. Everything is done to a high standard. This is certainly somewhere special to stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice but the junior suite in the tower has especially good views.

Four of us stayed at Villa Moorings for two nights this spring. We loved our stay. I would not call it a luxury hotel, but it is way more than your typical three star hotel in a small Italian village.

We had two junior suites that were incredibly cool. Full of vintage furniture. The building is old, but well cared for and full of charm and personality. The rooms are a bit quirky but in a great way.

The staff was incredibly hospitable, they provided great recommendations for activities and helped with dinner reservations in the village. Not to mention the amazing breakfast buffet they prepared every morning.

What a wonderful surprise Villa Moorings was. We had Nonno Lui's room (the man who built the house) and it was a real gem. Some reviewers have complained about the place not being "up to date", well, not everything new is better. Old antiques have their charm and the owner was a lovely and very helpful woman. We really enjoyed our stay here, and will make sure we return.

Room Tip: Lui's room, it is a suite.

Amazing early 1900 villa in the gorgeous ancient town of Barga. The staff is amazing as are the grounds, pool, breakfast, rooms, and balconies are stunning.
