“Great place, great staff, great fellow travellers”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

Beginner surfers and the waves were not cooperative. Luck of the draw. Great staff, reasonably priced. However, we started the evening cultural tour of the local village. Not far to walk. Beers were 5 Q intead of 15 Q at the resort. Now 15 Q while sitting comfortably around the pool is cheap, but for those travelling on the cheap, well you get the idea. The tour grew from 4 canadians to include 3 Americans, 1 Irish and one English participant to the local Tienda. Then we continued to a local roadside eating establishment, where again, more cheap eats. Handy to have a Spanish speaker with you to avoid the Gringo price, which still wasn't outrageous.. no ATM in the village, so be ready.... woul definitely go back and loved the culteral tour. Remember, there are no pretzels in Quazales,

The best place to stay in guatemala coast line. great staff with a very personalized service, good food, nice design, comfy bedrooms. I stayed there for 10 days and you can choose between share dorms, bungalows with shared bathrooms, suites and casitas for families. all rustic but very nice and comfortable. just in front of the beach with a beach volleyball court, pool, some nice tours like the mangrove and surfboards for rent. mercedes, jessy, ricardo, estuardo, jenny, jolly, armando where all A1, even the dogs where nice and friendly.

El Paredon was nothing like I had expected but I enjoyed my stay so much that I didn't want to leave.

Mercedes was friendly & welcoming, and was very quick to respond to emails when I was booking my room. She was also very flexible when I decided to shorten my stay from 4 nights to 3 nights over Easter.

The Surf House has a backpacker, laid back vibe & is located remotely with not much around. The closest town is very quiet so be prepared to do nothing but relax, swim & surf. Even though I'm not a surfer, I found it too easy to while away the time doing nothing.

I stayed in the bungalows which is very basic. The casitas looked much nicer & I would probably stay in the casitas the next time I am back.

The food provided is excellent. There is a decent choice of breakfast & lunch meals. Everyone eats the same dinner every night at 7pm & we never ate the same meal, the cooks were very creative in their cooking. I liked that we all sat at a communal table eating dinner together, which made it easy to meet other travellers staying at the Surf House.

Would visit again!

Was concerned at 1st about security and riptides. No worries. Met done great folks. The family style dinners and casual atmosphere were a perfect start to our 3 week vacation. My son 9 yrs old became part if a " family". Was a great experience for him.

It has been one of the best trips I ever made. You have to be careful reading the signs on the road so you don't get lost. Once you get there, you're in paradise! The place simple but cozy, rooms are comfy enough, food tastes great and prices are more than reasonable. Surf classes were amazing, I loved the experience and definitely recommend it; instructors were patient and friendly.

The only complaint I might have, is that there are people who visit for the day and can be noisy; one morning they woke me up at 6:00 am and couldn't fall sleep again. Besides that, I'll definitely go back there.

A truly magical place, relaxed ambiance, great food and friendly staff have made each of my many stays a great experience. I'm from Guatemala City, so with only a 2 hour 30min drive, and my new found love for surfing, this place has become my favorite weekend getaway.

And even if you don't surf, it's a great place to relax, read a book or have some fun on the slackline. Also, you'll most likely end up meeting many interesting people from all over the world, specially during their poolside dinners, which with the attentive service of the staff, make you feel just like a part of a big family.

Can't wait to go back!
