“Confirmation of open for business”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

Hi Emma and Steve...... I did go into panic mode when I read your comments as we have booked to go here in August 2012 with our family (group of 4 and 3), I have now contacted the tour operator who we have booked the holiday through they come back to us within the hour and have assured us that Blue Sky Hotel Apartments have now opened and was closed during the month of May due to the lack tourists within the area, I can appreciate peoples disappointment as we have had this happen before when we have gone to Crete. I hope you all had a lovely holiday as Crete is such a beautiful island.
Thank you for the heads up will have to monitor this closely now to ensure that the Tour Operator are telling the truth

We booked to stay at these apartments on th 22nd May this year to celebrate our friends 40th birthdays. You can imagine the look on our faces when we turned up at 8pm and the apartments were closed and looked as if they had not been open all year, there was even building work going on around the pool area which was cornered off. We could not believe our eyes.
We tried to contact the emergency number that we were given and the line was dead. Luckily a man that owned the local 'rent a bike' shop shouted to us and pointed us in the direction Kalia hotel. The receptionist at this hotel was lovely and explained that the same person owned the 2 hotels. They could not find a booking for us but offered us to stay at their hotel with an all inclusive option, obviously we took this. In the end we had a fabulous holiday and the staff at Kalia hotel were fantastic. Whilst leaving this hotel, other people were arriving for the Blue sky apartments so they were obviously still taking bookings. They had to deal with some very unhappy customers due to the hotel filling up and them not having the rooms available for all the guests. I realy felt sorry for the staff at Kalia hotel because all they were trying to do was help!

Room Tip: I cannot comment on the above as they were closed.

We arrived here on the 22nd May 2012 to find out the apartments were closed and were planned to be closed for the 2012 season, whilst we were in the resort the name had been removed from the building.

These apartments are still being offered for sale by agents such as Sunshine.co.uk, Travel Republic and Jet2 Holidays.

IF you are planning to stay here be warned it is closed and looks like a building site

Having travelled to Crete for the past 10 years we have stayed at the same hotel. These are basic apartments self catering with a really good pool side bar.

In the centre of Gouves these apartments are perfect for both the beach and the town alike. This is a base for the allocentric traveller ideal for families and couples alike, the single sex groups tend to stay away from this hotel and stick to the other side of the island.

We have taken our nieces and nephews from been kids up to teenagers feeling secure in the knowledge they wont see any behaviour too grown up for them. Every person working in this hotel from Ditsy and Carl in the pool bar to the cleaners are friendly and approachable. The bar is open 7am until 2am and the rooms are cleaned daily.

The self catering facilities are basic 2 ring stove microwave and a kettle but the tavernas are so cheap you need not eat in. Also the pool bar offers traditional cretan food to the bog standard burger and chips for the kids.

Fantastic apartments with two great pools one for adults and one for kids. Worth a stay if you want a relaxed holiday.

Room Tip: They are all great sizes all have balconys.

Having read all the rave reviews we decided to try the Blue Sky and we were a little disappointed. To be honest it does not push itself as high end self catering accommodation but the catering facilities are the most basic we have ever found in Greece, not even a toaster and one large pot to cook in.

Room was clean and of a good size, pool area also clean but very small. We went in September, goodness knows how crowded it would be in peak season.

I would rate it 6 out of 10 and in the budget and basic range. Staff were great, nothing too much trouble and always on hand.

Goves itself is, well, not very nice…. It looks very run down and having holidayed in Greece for 20 years we have seen our fair share of good and bad, we hired a car and travelled around and there are much nicer resorts to stay in. The Taverners are reasonable, in fact we did not have a bad meal and the locals are absolutely charming. Prices are good with a meal for two with wine costing around 28 Euro.

So, Blue Sky, OK, Gouves, don’t do it.

Room Tip: Pool view is best, other rooms look over scrub land or a back yard of a house.

We stayed here in peak season August 9th for on week. We found the apartment spacous and very clean. Pool was ideal for our young children and plenty of free sunbeds. Would reccomend these apartments to travellers who want a quiet and relaxed stay but close to centre of Gouves.

We stayed in Blue Sky for 9 days (15 - 23 July 2011) and it was our first visit to Crete. I was a little bit skeptical during reading absolute excellent reviews but must comment - it's all true and it's ideal place for couples and families. Personal is very friendly and very helpful. Cleaning every second day, towels and bed linen changed every third day. We left on Saturday but on Friday our towels and bed linen had been changed anyway. It was very pleasant and unexpected.

If you need any advice do not hesitate to ask Ditsy (from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m.) or Carl (from 6 p.m. till 2 a.m.) at pool bar. Believe me: no one travel agency rep would be able to guide you better than them. I hope when we will come back for our next holiday to Blue Sky they will be still there.
Ditsy and Carl do all to make us to feel like at home. THANK YOU!!! You are Great!

For our followers:
* If you are expecting 5 stars accommodation please choose another location and you will not be able to spoil the overall good impressions by bed review afterword and you holiday.
* If you will book the transfer apart the accommodation: make the transport company staff to understand that Blue Sky Apts and Kaisa Beach isn't the same hotel. Blue Sky Apts locates opposite Kalia Beach Hotel (it should help).
* Nothing could be perfect and you must be ready for some small weaknesses: balcony rattan and inner furniture are not new. Table on you balcony could look as needed to be repainted. Bedroom door lock can be broken as in my case. All of this is still functional and usable. Please remember what for you came to Crete - in your apartments you will spend less time then out.

See you soon Blue Sky!
