I always feel hopelessly trapped by the horror of suburban Highlands Ranch when visiting my sister. It represents everything to me that is wrong with 'Merica. Manicured, paved, strict covenants, endless malls of mediocrity, super vanilla people, high fences, next years cars, a complete submission to corporate values (read, lack of values). A total whitewashing lifestyle specifically designed to eliminate any bit of what makes people interesting.
And then there is the Brewery Bar III that feels as though it predates the 1978 purchase of Highlands Ranch by the Mission Viejo company and its glorious objective to build a new planned suburb. Decent Mexican food (good relleno actually) with a good vibe in the bar area makes me feel a little less hopeless while in this hopelessly bland planned piece of land.
