Unguja Lodge, Zanzibar
We have just returned from a week at this amazing lodge.
The few cabins are, tall, thatched and comfortable, and the main building a huge similar construction. The design of this and the adjacent pool is brilliant – compact yet spacious. And all shrouded by trees and vegetation present before they were built. This gives the area an integrated feel, extending down to the sea. Ample sun beds and seating enabled one to find sun or shade easily. We had no sea view, but an air-conditioned bedroom, but a plunge pool and tiny private garden, visited by delightful monkeys.
The food is excellent, meat, fish or veggie offered every night, and the staff cheerful. The dive centre within the complex is well run by an enthusiastic Belgian.
So what snags? It’s a fair distance from Stonetown and other tourist attractions, but taxis are readily available. On the spot dive and snorkelling more than compensate.
Delightful owners Elies and Rolf Hagedoorn, live on the spot. We were grateful for superb professional management, especially during an episode of illness, delivered with kindness and friendliness. Highly recommended.More
