Description: The Blue Boar is a Traditional Country pub set in the Beautiful Village of Walsham-le-Willows. We served good quality, homemade food and all ingredients are sourced from suppliers within a 10 mile radius of the pub. The Blue Boar is a family run business and also our home so we make a special effort to ensure that people are made to feel welcome. We have a fantastic enclosed back garden with children's play area which is overlooked by the beautiful St Mary's Church. The Blue Boar is not a restaurant but it is a traditional, homely, village pub with a quality food offering ,open fires and low beams. Adam, Liz and their 2 children welcome you to the Blue Boar and are confident you will enjoy your visit.

Myself and other half enjoyed a voucher deal including glass of wine early evening yesterday (on the day England were playing in the World Cup). What a smashing place. Tiffany and Liz were so very welcoming and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked through the door. Cosy relaxing place, with a good seating area overlooking a huge garden with play area for children and benches and tables for those wanting to enjoy their food and drinks outside in the summer sun. The menus were very varied with lots of good choices for the price. It was hard for us to choose but we both plumped for Blue Boar burger , chips, onion rings and salad as we had heard great reviews. Well what can I say. The plates were piled with lovely crispy home made onion rings, home cut yummy chips and gorgeous steak beef burgers peeking out of soft cheese topped bun. Bacon and melted cheese oozing out. They were absolutely delicious and are probably the best, we have ever eaten ( and we are regular diners) the salad was crispy and fresh too. All in all an absolute feast on a plate. I had a couple of good glasses of red to top it all off, and other half enjoyed some local lager that he said was good and made a nice change from the usual lagers. Sadly we couldn't squeeze dessert in, but rest assured we shall most definitely be back again (very soon!) to enjoy a repeat performance. Highly recommended staff, pub and most of all the fabulous food. Many thanks to all the team we had a fab evening.

Would have been a '5 star' were it not to put them in the awkward position of being directly compared to much more expensive restaurants in Bury. The Blue Boar is not a restaurant, it's a pub, and a really good one at that! Used to go here quite regularly back in the 80's/90's - it's a large building with a massive garden which was great when we were kids! It went downhill but has honestly never been as good as it is now, in our opinion. Yes the decor needs to evolve as the business evolves, but the service was amazingly friendly; the food was much much better than "pub grub" (they shouldn't do themselves down.. the quality of ingredients and the cooking far exceeds most local pubs, and the menu was quite inventive too); and the wine and beer range was brilliant. All for a very good price. Will come again and bring the family!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It is sometimes hard to be compared with fine dining restaurants in Bury but we are very proud to be very good pub. It is lovely that you recognise the importance of good pubs in the area and lovely that you feel as though the Blue Boar is the best it has ever been. We thank you for your review and look forward to welcoming yourself and your family back very soon. Kind Regards Liz and Adam

We used a Groupon voucher but this did not distract from the reception or excellent service extended to us throughout the evening. We could only manage 2 courses of delicious & well presented food - well worth a visit and we shall definitely be back more often.
I just wish it was our 'local'

Thank you so much for your review. The fact that you came on a groupon voucher would never detract from the level of service you should receive. Groupon is valuable tool used to bring new custom to the area and widen our customer base. It works very well for us and we would never treat groupon customers any different to anybody else. I am so glad you enjoyed your visit and your food was of a good standard. We very much look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind Regards Liz and Adam

We visited here on father's day and despite it being busy the service was quick and freindly. We had three course of prawns followed by Roast Pork which was one of the nicest slices of pork we've had, from the local butcher's apparently and it really was good. The strawberry&white choc cheesecake was also lovely. The portions were big so excellent value for money. In a picturesque countryside setting with a big, well kept garden.

Wow! Where to start!!!!

Thank you to Liz, the amazing chef and to all the team at Walsham Blue Boar.

I make no excuse for the length of this review - I usually write two lines or so but the Blue Boar deserves so much more...because it gives so much more. If you like pubs that deliver much better than average pub food at great prices then read on - better still, just go and eat there and I bet you'll be hard pushed to find fault...

We are a large family and had two birthdays in June to celebrate; a 50th and a 40th and needed somewhere where we could all have a great get together, great food and relaxed atmosphere. With ages ranging from 5yrs - 70+ we needed somewhere where little people could race around and let off steam and some quiet spots to sit - The Blue Boar has it all! With a fantastic garden with loads of space, lots of benches and covered area for the smokers in the party too, 39 of us descended on the Blue Boar and they treated us like royalty! YES 39 DINERS!!! On a Saturday!!!

Knowing we were a large party we approached Liz some months ago after having a lovely meal at the Blue Boar previously, we felt it was the prefect place for our celebration.

Liz, her chef (I'm sorry I don't recall your name x) and my sister and I sat down together and came up with a two course fixed priced menu with a choice of 3 mains and 3 puddings. We then gave Liz our orders a few weeks beforehand which was great. Liz couldn't have been more accommodating - we took over the whole of the back room and she let us decorate it with birthday banners, pictures and balloons beforehand - the room looked amazing! Liz had candles on the tables, red napkins and set the tables up so that we were all included.

Now to the food!

Where to start!!!!

We went for mains and a pud. I had fish and chips - a delicious non-greasy batter, as light as light could be, encased piping hot fresh cod, served with fresh green and luscious peas, home made tartare sauce and the most delicious hand cut chips I have ever tasted!!! The fish overlapped the plate and despite being full 3/4 of the way through I simply had to devour the lot! My partner had a burger - not just any burger...a delicious locally sourced homemade burger that was obviously the finest cuts of minced beef, perfectly seasoned, topped with delicious bacon and cheese, served in a cheese topped bap/bun with onion rings, the legendary chips and a delicious fresh salad. It's no surprise that the room was the quietest it had been all night when the food arrived - served to EVERYONE on time, at the same time, no waiting and absolutely piping hot!

This is no mean feat! To serve 39 hot homemade cooked meals is a triumph! Amazing and Well Done all! (And don't forget they had the rest of the pub to serve too as well and they simply didn't falter)

The bar staff and servers worked tirelessly, bringing out extra sauces and taking drinks orders, clearing away, bringing coffees - they really are a brilliant asset to the pub and all this done with a smile! Thank you, your hard work was most greatly appreciated.

Pudding was sticky toffee and custard..dreamy....strawberry cheesecake..heavenly...pimms jelly and ice -cream -out of this world!!!

EVERYTHING HERE IS HOME-MADE AND LOCALLY SOURCED, LOCALLY PRODUCED AND QUITE SIMPLY IT SHOWS!

No, I'm not related to the customers, it really was that good. I had eaten here once before and that was enough to plan our special celebration at the Blue Boar. If you like good pub food,if you care about the food you eat and where it comes from, if you want excellent value for money, a relaxed atmosphere and be welcomed so warmly by all the staff ..then this is the place for you.

WELL DONE Blue Boar -may you continue to be successful because you've transformed this pub since taking it over and we shall all definitely be back!

Worth more than the Excellent 5 stars in our humble, very full and satisfied opinion :)

Well what can I say to that!! Sarah and Jackie it was an absolute pleasure to be part of your special occasion and your family are a real credit to you. Everyone was so friendly so our staff and it was fantastic to see you all together and enjoying yourselves. I am so so pleased that it all went well as I know how hard you both worked on organising everything. We received your thank you card and it is very much appreciated. We do work hard and very long hours which can feel like a thank-less task at times. People such as yourselves make it all worthwhile and so lovely to have recognition for my staff who I absolutely love!! :-). Many thanks guys and once again it was our pleasure. Look forward to seeing you all again very soon xx
