My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days during our trip to Costa Rica. It is a wonderful gem of a hotel. The view of the ocean is spectacular. It is a very small hotel, so we felt like we had the run of the place. The drive up the dirt road to get here is a little harrowing, I would recommend a 4 wheel drive, but it is worth it once you arrive. We were here during the dry season, and the road up is dirt and pot holed, so be careful! The breakfast was home made and excellent, I had the banana pancakes and my husband had the Tico spread with rice and beans. There are no TV's, but there is a pretty good wifi signal so you can rub it in to all your friends that you are in this little piece of paradise! And to top everything off, we didn't need an alarm clock because the howler monkeys woke us up each morning bright and early!

Room Tip: If you stay above the kitchen, there is a little deck that looks out to the ocean.

The title does not lie: Bella Vista Mar has a wonderful view, especially during the sunsets.
The rooms are nicely decorated and clean, sorroundings are beautiful. There were moments when we were thinking that the place was too perfect to be true.
Alexa if a wonderful hostess: nice, friendly and very helpful.
If I had to find one disadvantage, I would say: it is a bit far up the mountain, so if you come for a beach vacation, you will have to use the car to go down. Well, with a 4x4 we didn't have any problem :)

Alexa, thank you for a great stay

Room Tip: We stayed in Pelada and Guiones (like the names of the beaches right in front of the place): these rooms had a great view. Especially the one on the first floor.

We loved it so much that we told all our friends and family and my sister is going to Bella Vista Mar this weekend with her husband.
Breakfasts were delicious and we had a chance to share stories with the other guests and meet many great people.
The location has an awesome view and is near (by car) to many beautiful beaches, Nosara has many activities to enjoy.

I had the pleasure of staying at Bella Vista Mar over the Christmas holidays, and enjoyed the matchless combination of discovering Nosara, that rarity, a truly unspoiled beach town, and staying at a B&B that I enthusiastically recommend to all travelers to CR.

The rooms are large and filled with colorful paintings by local artists, the landscaping is magnificent, the views of the ocean, over an expanse of the dense green vegetation, without an house in sight, are stirring. Alexa is a great hostess who keeps the rooms and grounds in perfect condition. She really cares, and it shows. The breakfasts feature such specialties as banana pancakes. As you can tell, I loved my stay at Bella Vista Mar.

We were originally going to fly from San Josa to Nosara so we asked if we really needed to rent a car while staying at Bella Vista Mar. Our second question was that if we did rent a vehicle, would a car suffice or would we need a 4X4? We were advised that having a car would be convienent to visit the Nosara area but that the beach and town were a 15 min walk so we could get around by foot. Also, that a 4X4 is not necessary in the dry season. As soon as we started driving up the hill with non-exsistant roads we realised that the advice given to us was completey false. The beach was about a 12 min DRIVE from BVM!!! There is one great restaurant near BVM, but otherwise I wouldn't dream of walking down that unlit bumpy curvy road at night!
If you plan to stay at Bella Vista Mar do not let anyone tell you that a car is not necessary. You will need a 4X4 unless you plan on surrendering the $800 mandatory deposit to the car rental agency for damages. We ended up renting a car in San Jose because the agency ran out of 4X4s, and we switched to a 4X4 once we arrived in Nosara. A couple we met at Bella Vista Mar had a small car and the bumper came off from the horrible roads driving up and down to BVM.
The host hosted a wedding reception in the main comunal outdoor area and only advised the other guests the day of. We returned from the beach and were planning to cook that night, instead we were awkwardly sitting in a corner by the pool trying to stay out the way, and not being able to access the kitchen area.
We found the host to be quite unpleasant and we definitely would not stay there again. The hospitality business is not for everyone.
