We spent 5 nights at Lagarta Lodge.....and enjoyed everything. The food was great and we thought very reasonable for the quality, service provided. Beautiful scenery, owners were very hospitable and friendly. We loved the sunsets, great views of the Pacific
This is a great place....if you want to relax, enjoy nature, and have great views.

Room Tip: We had a Standard room (no a/c) which was fine. If you are used to a/c ...you might want to reserve...

I was a little disappointed when I arrived to Lagarta Lodge at first because we were not directly on the beach. However, once I entered the gate and saw the breathtaking scenery, I can see why this is a five star hotel. We had room number 8 which was absolutely beautiful. It had a private terrace overlooking the preserve with beautiful birds and wildlife. The owners were informative and a joy to be around. I actually felt sorry for them because they worked so hard at making your stay a pleasant one. I wanted to give them a break because they went above and beyond what was expected.

Room Tip: Watch the sunset at the sunset bar!

The Logarta Lodge is set on a bluff overlooking the beaches of Nosara. The views from the rooms are spectacular and the use of glass, individual patios with the rooms and public terraces take full advantage of the vast costal scene laid before your eyes. Even if you don't stay at the lodge, their Sunset Bar is a wonderful place to come for a drink at sunset. It is a small inn, consisting of only 12 rooms. Our room was spacious, with well-appointed amenities. Everything was immaculate.

After about a week of travel in other parts of Costa Rica, we had despaired at finding cuisine that rose above average. It was a pleasant surprise to come upon the menu at Logarta, which offered variety and fresh ingredients that were well prepared. The locally caught fish and home-made ice cream were especially welcome. Our Swiss host and hostess couldn't have been friendlier.

The Lodge is set within a biologic preserve with the Nosara River running at its base. The setting makes for satisfying bird watching, whether it is from the comfort of your terrace or the guided electric boat tour on the river.

The only negative to be said is bug bites! Perhaps it is the setting by the river that breeds an excess of insects - the price one pays for having a surfeit of wild life. Bring your Deet!

We were searching for a place to stay on our driving trip up the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica when we saw the sign for Hotel Lagarta Lodge. As we drove up this long winding dirt road we started to have doubts about what we'd find and if we'd even stay there. What a surprise when we discovered this little bit of heaven at the side of this steep, challenging road. Luckily they had a room available and it was beautiful. After freshening up we joined the other guests at the Sunset Bar for a cocktail to watch the sun go down and, oh, that mojito...delicious! It was so romantic and set us up for the most beautiful meal with the owners and staff looking after every need. We were delighted to hear about how the hotel is centered in a nature reserve and to read how the owners are so involved in supporting the local community. We were entertained by the howler monkeys and enchanted by the surroundings. Unfortunately, we were only at the hotel for one night but we will certainly be returning. We loved this beautiful place.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8. It was spacious, quiet and had a fabulous view.

Friends had stayed at La Lagarta and suggested that we had to go there for a sunset drink and dinner during our stay in Nosara. They were right! Drinks at the sunset bar with its incredible view is an experience that is not to be missed. A lovely dinner served by the owners followed. The road makes getting there difficult but that is typical for the area. If we didn't need to be close to the beach (for surfing), we would probably stay there.
The next day we returned and took the walk in the nature preserve. The trees were beautiful and well-marked; we were lucky and saw several noisy monkeys too.
This is a special place. Everyone visiting Nosara shoudl stop there.

We arrived at 5:00 p.m. after driving close to five hours and Regina greeted us with a welcoming smile, We were urged to head to shake off the day with a welcome cocktail at the Sunset Bar and that's exactly what we did. A mojito never tasted so good. The lodge is beautifully situated and you could spend your entire time in Nosara just staring at the splendour around you. Both Regina and Amadeo were perfect hosts with lots of suggestions to go and do...or do nothing. We stayed in the newer building with ocean view AND among the tree tops. Very clean, great water pressure, lots and lots of room. The patio with comfy rocking chairs was the perfect way to take a siesta. Dinner was very relaxing, reasonable and delicious. After a day of touring around you may not be inclined to tackle the road at night so not a bad idea to stay put. We had a small private table on the lower terraces under the stars. Walk the reserve early in the a.m. (free to guests) and you will see all sorts of things but I don't want to give anything away. Be surprised as we were! Thank you R& A for a wonderful stay - we'll be back.

We stayed here for 4 nights. After arriving by bus on foot and staggering up a long winding road to the lodge we were amazed to see how luxurious it was (at least compared to our normal backpacking standard). The beautiful view over the river confluence, the pool and the sunset bar all were really special. We also really enjoyed descending to the reserve to search for birds and other creatures among the mangroves. Amazing motmots and mannikins, very colourful and exotic to my northern eyes!

I agree with other reviewers that the restaurant was a pricey, but we did splurge and had a couple meals there. Otherwise we walked into Nosara which was okay but more like a developer's speculative gambit than a real town. Samara was much nicer.

I have good memories of the lodge. A very distinctive setting, well maintained and classy compared to the other low budget places we stayed at.
