All I knew was that I wanted my family of four to have an authentic Costa Rica holiday and not stay in a grand hotel with a lot of tourists...and because of TA and the reviews about Nosara, we found just that. The views, the owners, the huge communal table for breakfast open air, our balcony and the monkeys...enough said. Simply gorgeous.

We entirely enjoyed our stay at Largarta Lodge. With a beautiful view over the ocean and river from our private balcony, a lovely breeze more often than not, listening to the sounds of the waves and the birds, howler monkeys and other creatures, watching the sunset -- what more could a person ask for! The owners Regina and Amadeo were very welcoming and helpful, and the atmosphere among the guests was friendly. The meals were delicious. Very clean rooms and surroundings. We also appreciated the environmentally friendly focus of the lodge. A great place to stay all-around!

This was one of the very best places we stayed during a month in Costa Rica.
The views from the restaurant, sunset bar and the rooms are nothing short of stunning. Regina and Amadeo are excellent, friendly, professional hosts and the high standards here reflect their Swiss origins. They are rightly proud of their Eco credentials. Rooms are spacious and airy and the food is very good, especially the delicious breakfasts cooked to order. Cocktails watching the sunset was a magical experience. The hotel has its own nature reserve, lovely to explore early in the morning. It's a fifteen minute walk to the nearest beach, and ideally you would have a car to stay here to explore Nosara and further afield. If only we could have extended our stay in this beautiful location.

A great, well run little hotel with an amazing view. Fantastic sunsets from the sunset bar. The couple who run the lodge are very professional and helpful. They are on top of everything. From the lodge we did a paddleboard tour of the nearby river. We also visited the Wildlife Sanctuary and went surfing.

The only downside was our communications leading up to our stay. Emails often took days to get a reply and it took more effort to book a room than we felt was necessary.

After a few days near Tamarindo, my husband and I were ready for the quiet jungle surroundings at Lagarta Lodge. We stayed in room #8 which was high on the hillside. (Getting the luggage there was a workout and I was grateful for the assistance.) Once in our room, it felt like a treehouse. A spacious deck overlooking the Reserve was very inviting; I could have spent three days there but we were in Nosara for suring and exploring. The room was very clean and moderately appointed. Basic, no nonsense and comfortable. The breakfasts were fantastic, loved all the fresh fruit. Coffee is ready to go early, but the kitchen doesn't start cooking until 7:30am. We were often ready for breakfast earlier than that and they accommodated us as best they could. We had one dinner there and it was just ok. Lots of other restaurants to try and we weren't there for the food anyway. I would gladly return to Lagarta Lodge.

Went there on a self-guided tour of the reserve a little before 9am. Not much to see other than some neat trees. Hard to keep kids interested in trees for 2 hours though. Sounds like going with a guide might be better from other reviews. I know this place is supposed to be a nice hotel, but the smell of garbage that greets you when you park right outside of the hotel is not a good thing.

Dear Visitor. Many thanks for your comment. Your visit has probably been at that very moment, when we were working on the hotel compost which is not far from the parking area. This is a work we have to do from time to time to get nice organic fertilizer for our plants and the hotel garden. We are very sorry that the smell bothered you in the parking area.
The Nature Reserve is a 90 acres big forest with well marked trails where you can hike for approximately 2 hours. With the map you get information about the marked trees and plants. It is also a very good place for bird watching.
To see birds and other animals needs patience and cannot be guaranteed like this is the case in a zoo. The best chances to see wildlife is early in the morning – that’s why we open the Reserve at 6am and the guided tour (on reservation only) starts at 6.30am. There is free early morning coffee.

Our best during our honeymoon in Costa Rica. The view is stunning, the room are very comfortable. From the hotel, you can go for a hike in the reserve with a naturalist, we recommend it highly as we learnt a lot and saw a lot of widlife. The hotel is located 15 min by walk from a very nice beach.
Wifi available in the room, no ac but it was not too hot.
