“Best hotel in Nosara!”
Reviewed 22 January 2011

I've been staying at Casa Romantica for years. They've got it all. Beautiful swimming pool, short walk down a beautiful path to the beach. The surfing is amazing right in front of the hotel. The property is gated and fully secure. The rooms are clean and spacious. Air conditioned rooms are available. The staff are always friendly and professional. The owners, Remo & Silvia, are extremely accommodating. I highly recommend Casa Romantica!

I have stayed here with my boyfriend on our trip to Nosara for one night. As soon as we stepped onto the property we did not feel welcomed. The owner acted very snobby toward us and felt aggravated and showed it to us as well that we asked for simple directions to the beach. We chosen the more expansive room to be close to the ocean in order to hear the ocean, but the owner failed to tell us that we will only hear the noise from the restaurant and other guests which became really loud at night, hence we did not get any sleep, just to be woken up by staff at 5AM yapping on our patio. We told the owner about it but he deliberately dismissed our complain. I think this place is very much overpriced for the facility it has to offer especially with the noise coming from the restaurant, the other guests and the staff. I do not recommend staying here, as there are other nice, welcoming and more reasonably priced places in Nosara to choose from. Needless to say we wanted to stay 4 nights but we left after the first one highly dissatisfied.

You can't get any closer to the beach in Nosara. Free breakfast in the morning. Clean rooms. Nice swimming pool with hammocks. Lock boxes in each room. A/C in 5 of the rooms. Rocking chairs outside of each room. Quiet. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but it smelled great. I really can't think of any complaints about Casa Romantica.

I had a destination wedding in Nosara, Costa Rica. It was an amazing experience! Half of our family stayed at Casa Romantica and the other at Gilded Iguana. Casa Romantica had not gotten very good reviews on Tripadvisor and we were nervous to have people stay there. I had nothing to worry about. The rooms were simple but clean (we didn't spend much time in them). The manager was nice and friendly. It was more expensive than gilded iguana for not much more for ammenities/quality. The breakfast was typical for Costa Rica with plenty of fresh fruits, rice and beans, cheeses, eggs, and then usually french toast or pancakes. You had to have a reservation for the other meals so we never tried it. The grounds were kept up very well and the pool area was very pretty. By far the biggest advantage to Casa Romantica was the location. There is a private path that take you right to the beach which was nice if you had to go back and forth for things and you didn't have far to carry your surf boards. Other hotels are close but after while it gets a little old going back and forth. At night we would take the path down and have a bonfire on the beach.

We have stayed at Casa Romantica for many years now. It is the perfect little hotel in the best location on Playa Guiones. If you surf, a short walk to the best section of the break. If you don't, best location for everything else. You just cannot beat it. The hotel integrates perfectly with the environment of Nosara and Guiones. Casa Romantica offers a fantastic breakfast each morning and the best dinner restaurant in Nosara. The rooms are spacious and perfectly appointed. The staff helps whenever they can. The staff are fun to chat with while enjoying a cold beer from the honor bar (very handy by the way). If your an adventure traveler and want to stay in an authentic place, this is it.

We stayed here a few days in the summer of 2010. The owners and staff were generally very helpful, and the grounds are very attractive. The rooms are OK, but nicer than the pictures on their website. Location is great. However, there are a couple of major problems I would consider: (1) our room, on the first floor, had bars on the window and the door locked with a key from the inside, and was a potential deathtrap. If there was an emergency (fire, tsunami) and we couldn't locate the key, we would have all perished inside Until the woners change this, I wouldn't stay in any windows there with bars. (2) The owners asked that we not throw any toilet paper down the toilet, and gave us a plastic can that was not odorproof to use. Presumably this is because it costs the owners money to pump the septic tanks, but it caused the room to stink. Come on -- for the price of these rooms, we shouldn't have to sleep in a latrine. The owners should pump out the septic tank when needed and not have this rule.

We arrived at Casa Romantica after leaving neighboring Nosara Beach Villas (see review, if interested). The grounds are well kept, the lobby has a grand wooden bar where guests sit and chat about life, the restaurant outside is simple yet lacking nothing - the place felt calm and quiet. We decided to stay after viewing our room and agreeing on a price with the owner. From there our review goes to two extremes - good and bad.
Of the good notes, there are candle light dinners with fresh ingredients. The dinners are relaxed, nonrushed (mind you we were there in green season). There is variety in the dinner selection with daily specials but it is a bit pricey - about 40USD for two people. You are as close to the beach as you can get in Nosara. There is a security gate at the back of the hotel and the front gate closes at 10pm and has a security guard. The room is not what I would call romantic. It is simply decorated, which is fine - we just couldn't shake the lack of cleanliness. The curtains match the bedspread which match the pillows - all of which were visably dirty. The morning/day staff was unmotivated and simple questions seem to be a bother to them. We had to ask for toliet paper a number of times as well as towels - nothing like coming back from the beach to take a shower and there are no towels in the room. The breakfast is buffet style and never enough is made for the number of guests present. One morning, half of the guests were leaving early for an excursion and when asked if we could have breakfast to go, the staff told us no and instead sat at the bar with their head in their hands. They did not know we could understand spanish and heard them saying they shouldn't even bother making breakfast that morning if everyone was leaving. Evening and night worker, Gabriel, was charming and as helpful as he could be seeing as he has only been working there for 3 months. He was our waiter every night and we loved conversing with him in spanish as he practiced his english with us.
Overall, our stay was decent. We met some great people that were also staying there. It was quiet, but there was only 8 of us staying there. The beach access was nice but the "convenience" was not necessary. It is not a far walk to the beach from anywhere in Nosara. We felt as if we were paying for the beach access instead of the room and service. I'd rather have a cleaner room, warm water and pleasant service than beach convenience.
