Couldn't have asked for more. A wonderful property which more than lives up to the photos on the website. A friendly and hospitable welcome. Great breakfast and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It says on the website "come as a guest, leave as a friend" and it certainly lives up to that aim.
We didn't have a car but found no problem getting around although admittedly we are keen walkers but taxis are readily available if you need one.

Excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Conga - our room - had a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean from our bed

Unfortunately, this was not a comfortable stay for us for a couple of reasons. The property itself is beautiful. It is a nice house which has been converted to a B&B is perched on a mountain with gorgeous views of the ocean. The main floor consists of the common areas and the owners living areas. The floor just below has a couple of available rooms and there's one person who seems to live there who is staff/friend of the owners. Howler monkeys enjoy the mango trees on the property.

We stayed for 1 night. After checking in, the owner asked us what we intended to do in Nosara and we mentioned Ostional to hopefully seeing turtles nesting. He told us that we needed a guide and offered to arrange for his pool maintenance person to meet us out there for a charge (to the guide, not him). He specifically said we needed a guide to go that beach. We decided to go to Ostional after dinner and found that anyone can walk right up, without a guide and without paying any fees. I didn't appreciate the owner finding this opportunity to help his friend make some money off of his guests.

On a positive note, when we returned to Villa Mango that evening around 11PM, we had a minor car issue. When we asked the security guard for a wrench, he got the owner and I appreciate that the owner came out to assist us.

We settled into the room shortly after and found that the bed had many bugs (definitely in the double digits) of different types including flying ants, moths, beetles, and possible roaches on the sheets and on the pillows. I understand that Costa Rica has a lot of bugs and it would be impossible to have a bug free establishment. We stayed at other places and were not disturbed by the many bugs in our room; however, a bug infested bed is a different issue. Not feeling comfortable sleeping in that bed and believing that our hosts were asleep, we decided to move to the room next door which did not have any bugs in the bed. The next morning around 8AM when we came to the main floor, the host immediately asked us why we changed rooms and seemed quite angry. (Another note: if you are looking for privacy, Villa Mango is probably not the place for you.) We told her about the bugs and showed her the pictures. She said one type is a beetle and the other she did not know. I've attached pictures if you'd like to determine whether or not you would want those bugs as you bed partners.

Next their cat came strolling in to hang around the breakfast table, next to our bags and on the dining chairs. My husband is allergic to cats and I specifically chose a place that was listed as not pet friendly on Tripadvisor for that reason. When my husband mentioned the allergy, the host took the cat away from our bags and onto her lap. The host kept the cat on her lap at the table for a while until my husband left the room from the allergic reaction. She then took the cat into a back room but then it came back a few minutes later. We left shortly after that, paid the full price of the room, and were very dissatisfied. My husband had reactions for the next couple of days of our vacation after that exposure. (Cat dander at 0.3 microns enters your lungs and continues to cause reactions after the initial exposure.)

Also, I would like to mention that the host and the staff/resident are smokers in case someone prefers to be in a smoke-free environment.

Thank you for your review that helps us improve.

Regarding the Turtles, a guide is usually needed when the turtles are on the beach, so as to control the amount of persons accessing the beach and prevent major disturbance over the egg-laying process with persons walking all over the beach without any ideas of what they are doing. We in no way promote out staff/friend business as he is a LEGAL VOLUNTEER guide of one of the two turtles-protecting associations in Ostional and he is not making any money on the fees.
You did not pay any fee when you got there, because they were not any major "arribadas" which is when the association collect a fee. This fee is for the protection of the turtle and help the community of Ostional protect one of the National beauty of Costa Rica.

As for the beds, we apologize for this problem and appreciated that you decide not to wake us up and moved to the room next door instead. This was not a problem at all and we apologize if we sounded angry when we asked, it was not our intention. The bugs are an issue at this time of year in the area, and were certainly not an hygiene problem. Otherwise you would have encountered them in the other room as well. But it is hard to explain this to people who do not live in the country year round.

Villa Mango is not an impersonal hotel where people can keep to each other. We are a Bed and Breakfast, a real one, where every one shares breakfast and gets to know the other guests. Come as guests, leaves as friend is our motto and we are so far doing pretty well with it.

We are sorry that our cat caused your husband to react to her, as we never had any one staying with such an allergic reaction before. If TripAdvisor says our B&B is not pet friendly, it is because of the cat. We will make sure to mention her on TripAdvisor from now on, so that people will allergies are aware of this.

Smoking is indeed allowed on all the outdoors grounds at Villa Mango.

We spent New Years eve + the week around it at Villa Mango Nosara. Owners Agnes & Jo are fantastic. We (all 6 of us: from Amsterdam, New York & Istanbul) agree staying at Mango enhanced our Nosara visit significantly. Super relaxed, well priced, safe, clean, baby/toddler friendly (ours is 2 years old) and everyone from the investment banker to the yoga master/artist in our group loved it (no discussion on these 'extremes pls). Fridge stocked nicely with all the right drinks, and room for BYO (incl my chilled red wines).

We stayed at a number of considerably more expensive places and liked this most. Breakfast even beat the Intercontinental in San Jose (PS avoid San Jose like the plague - has nothing to offer).

Nice and punchy ifi too at Mango.

Sorry about late review - not something I usually do.

Room Tip: All rooms are fine. We had Airco but hardly used it.

My wife and I were recently in CR visiting friends who live in the Nosara region. After looking at a few different B&B's online, we decided to stay at the Villa Mango B&B because of its proximity to our friends, the attractive pricing, and the photos of establishment. We are so grateful that Villa Mango was our final choice as it did not disappoint in any way.

The bedroom was well appointed and comfortable, with a/c, a ceiling fan, large and open bathroom/shower, a comfortable bed, and curtains that could block out the early morning light and give us some privacy. Our room opened onto its own little private patio with a hammock and beautiful mango and banana trees.

The common area patio above us was immense, inviting, and very comfortable, with a spectacular view of the jungle and beaches below. The swimming pool was clean and always very refreshing, with many deck lounge chairs and an outdoor shower.

Breakfasts were consistently delicious with a great variety of fresh tropical fruit, yogurt, granola, several types of bread and jams/spreads, pancakes, bacon and eggs to order. Great food with such a great view was a really fantastic way to start the morning. A pay-by-honour fridge with a variety of beverages was available 24/7.

The large breakfast table was never a quiet or sombre place - all of the guests participated in lively morning conversation, which we really enjoy (as one of the great aspects of staying in a B&B). All of this was facilitated by our hosts, Agnes, Jo and Marine. Agnes and Jo are the owners, and were very friendly, welcoming and all around decent people. Exactly the type of people who should be running a B&B. Marine greeted us on our first day and was a great help throughout our stay. It was a pleasure to meet her.

We have stayed in a number of B&B's in all sorts of locations. Villa Mango is without a doubt the nicest tropical-set B&B we've stayed at. I really hope we can make it back there one day. I certainly recommend (and have been recommending) the location to all of my friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Tucan room, which I think has the most privacy.

We stayed two nights in Villa Mango and would have stayed longer had we had more time. Agnes and Jo made us very welcome and you feel as if you are guests in their home, which in fact you are. The pool is splendid and just the right temperature for multiple swims in morning and evening.

The Congo room is high in the trees for monkey watching and hummingbird watching.
All the rooms are spotlessly clean with large pillows and plenty of towels in our VERY large clean bathroom. The open aspect of the bathroom made it the perfect place for wildlife watching and we even had a visitor on the ledge during the night.

The breakfasts are a feast and you want to allow plenty of time for the social side as it is a time when all the guests gather during the course of the morning to exchange experiences and get tips.

The food was wonderful; a full range of fruit, cereals, yogurt, eggs, bacon and pancakes with all sorts of syrups. All this topped off with wonderful Costa Rican coffee.

Thank you A & J for a super stay at Villa Mango.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two rooms at the top of the house.

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Villa Mango. It was pure relaxation. Beautiful grounds, fantastic accommodations and situated in the community of Nasara. Our hosts Agnes & Jo along with their staff were outstanding. We did not want leave. We will be back, hopefully sooner than later. I high recommend staying at Villa Mango.
