My husband and I stayed in Playa Guiones for 3 days at The Guilded Iguana. The room was perfect for our needs. It was clean, spacious, and comfortable. We stayed in a room away from the restaurant with AC and it was a great price for what we got. My only complaint is that the walls are paper thin, so you hear everything from your neighbors. The pool was a great place to relax and soak up the sun.

The restaurant was super tasty! I recommend the cerviche and any catch of the day. We also had breakfast each morning and enjoyed the tico surfer special.

All in all a perfect place for the price and location.

Comfort+affordable+great people = awesome place to stay.

Would recommend it to anyone who likes good living. Run by great people, this place is safe, and has great food. We have stayed there on 2 different trips to Nosara and will definitely be back.

Playa Guiones is only steps away. They have a great pool, great pool bar, live music a few nights a week. Great place to relax, have a melontico, eat breakfast pre-surf. Always a good conversation to be had at the bar.

I could go on and on but you get the point.

Thanks Iguana

Room Tip: Not all the rooms have AC so ask for it if you want it ahead of time

I was so lucky to stay for four weeks at The Gilded Iguana this winter and loved every minute of it. I stayed in one of the non AC-rooms on the first floor which were nice and breezy. Every morning I woke up early, sometimes because of the howler monkeys, and walked down the stairs to get a cup of coffee at the restaurant. After that I'd go for a walk at the long and beautiful Playa Guiones or maybe have one of several tries to improve my surf skills. Then it´d be time for breakfast with my friends and make plans for the day. Maybe make no plans at all, just hanging out, reading in the hammock, or chilling by the pool, getting surf lessons from the guys at Nosara Surf Academy or renting an ATV from Iquad in the back and going on some new adventures. The Gilded Iguana has a great restaurant, easily one of the best in town, the nicest staff and a cosy atmosphere which made us all feel very welcome. Can´t wait to go back.

You can't get any better for the budget! Perfect location, friendly and helpfull staff (even canadian staff!!), amazing food, smoothies and drinks, nice pool. We ate somewhere else a couple times, but this is the spot for the best food. Mini-market,surf shop and of course the beautiful Playa Guiones is just a few steps away. 25 minutes walk to the Nosara Yoga Institute, did it 3 times.
We wanted the whole Nosara experience so we chose a non a/c room so we can fell the breeze, hotness and hear the sounds of nature (stayed April 22-29), nice and big room #2! Maybe the maids could do their jobs a little less faster but for $60/night, it was all right for us! Pura Vida

The hotel is economical, clean and located near everything in Nosara. Food service is great, tasty and priced reasonable for Nosara. Full bar, friendly bar tenders and pleasant crowd. The hotel has a peaceful pool and pool bar. Very helpful staff. Beach is about 200m away. Has limited off road parking. Free fresh Costa Rican coffee in the mornings. I highly recommend the hotel, the restaurant and the bar.

Room Tip: Can't imagine that there are any bad rooms. Avoid the two rooms over the bar if you need seclus...

I just returned from a stay at the Gilded Iguana from April 11 thru April 17th 2013. We opted for the air conditioned rooms at a rate of $80 a night plus taxes.
First if you plan on going to this area of Costa Rica it makes way more sense to fly into Liberia International Airport. We fly Delta with a layover in ATL with no problems at all. We rented a car from Dollar Rent a Car and drove to the Gilded Iguana. The drive was approx 2 hours and was really easy. The last 20 minutes of the drive the road turns to gravel/hard pack dirt.
The hotel is just as described. You check in on the side of the bar, which is a little odd but it was a quick check in with no problems. The check in guy was the bartender!!
There was a group of 4 of us and we stayed in room 7 and 8 which are the closest to the pool bar and pool! Rooms were big, approx 18 foot ceiling with wood beams, 2 queen beds, a mini fridge, end tables, surf board rack, small desk and a really nice full bathroom. There was also a ceiling fan and air conditioning wall unit which worked really well. The rooms were cleaned everyday, there was also a lanai out front with wood chairs. Also outside of the rooms there is a clothes line that runs the length of the rooms.
The Gilded Iguana is def a earth friendly hotel. They recycle everything they can, and have large bins behind the restaurant for plastics/cans/bottles/and general trash.
I have no negatives about this hotel. It's perfect for beach lovers and surfers. I think kids would get bored if they didn't want to hit the beach everyday.
This area is a "Jungle surf town", this is the reason we came. Every morning we would surf early, the beach is 200 meters from the hotel. Some days we would take the car and park in a lot directly in front of the beach.
We usually go to mega resorts that are all inclusives and the Gilded Iguana was a great break. I def will go back.
Crime isn't a problem here, and the locals all seem to be happy to see travelers. There "Summer" months are December thru end of April with little or no rain. So when we traveled it was dusty and need rain. There were monkeys in the area behind are rooms which was insane and lots of local iguana's and other reptiles.
It seems this would be a perfect Xmas vacation spot when the jungle is full from the rains!!

Best things about the hotel** Location (center of town near multiple other restaurants, 200 meters from the ocean, Nosara Surf Academy and Iquad on site)

Room Tip: Stay in the Air Conditioned rooms! Room 7 is closest to pool, then 8 and so on. Stay from Dec thru...
