“Great accommodations and food in the heart of Guanacaste”
Reviewed 11 December 2013 via mobile

Very nice set up in the quieter more laid back north end up Guiones. Food is top notch and seems to be very well thought out to incorporate both local and international fare. Rooms are comfortable with options close to restaurant or away from the hive. Would recommend for anyone from the solo surfer to family groups looking to stay in a safe, reliable place. Staff are always helpful and seem to thoroughly enjoy where they work. Make sure to polish your dance shoes for live music night on Tuesdays.

Overall this is a great spot if you're looking for what I was recently...
Short walk to beach / surf
Clean, open, light filled rooms (w/ fans)
Stocked with soap, shampoos, and cleaned daily.
Nice helpful managment and staff
Bar / resturaunt is a popular local hang with live music twice a week and good food.

What a fun place to have Sunday brunch! The kids loved the pancakes and running in the garden. The parents were overjoyed with the Eggs Benny and the best Bloody Caesars outside if Canada. The staff were amazing and gave us great ideas of places to see around Nosara and surrounding beach towns. It was nice to see a lot of families out for brunch and our kids made a lot of new friends. This is a MUST to try in Nosara!

My group of 4 stayed here this June and had a wonderful time. We all shared a double bed room and it was pretty small. Next time we go, we would probably get 2 rooms. The beach is just a short walk to the beach and it is beautiful! The restaurant at the Guilded Iguana has some of the best food we had in Costa Rica and there are also other great food options just down the street. The staff were friendly, helpful, and made our stay even more fun. We told them some of the activities we wanted to do in Nosara and they helped find us the right people for deep sea fishing and surfing. The pool was well maintained. You will love Nosara and the Guilded Iguana!

We were 200 m. from a surf beach. The restaurant was easy access. The people were always accommodating. The rooms were cleaned daily. The monkeys in the tree in back were so fun to watch. It was a truly enjoyable location. Between two families we had two rooms with A/C. We were there in beginning August and super happy we chose the rooms with A/C.

Room Tip: We stayed in the rooms with A/C.

The Gilded Iguana is a very social hotel, with an active bar scene and the rooms are OK - no TV or a/c but a ceiling fan, which I prefer.

Only problem is that it's slightly overpriced and if you have a room near the restaurant it can be noisy if you go to bed early.

My second visit- this time for two days/three nights - primarily for shoreline shooting and beach-strolling R&R after two weeks hiking all over the mountains of Guanacaste. Community keeps development off the coastline, so the setting is beautiful - esp as sunset goes down behind Punta Pelada to the NW. Big tidal range (8' vertical or so) opens up a huge wide area at low tide (the best? only? time for swimming bc of the rip currents). During our stay, the surf was running 12'-15' but breaking far offshore. Very dramatic, esp at low tide sunset as it pounded Pta Pelada. Go out before sunrise and stay out after sunset for best images. Accommodations were spacious, AC and refrigerator were welcome. Great hospitality from all the service staff: genuinely friendly and helpful. Great food from a varied menu, incl great veggie choices. Lots of kitchen creativity! Microbeers appreciated. Pool was lovely - a nice break from swimming in the surf. Staff went far "above & beyond" in helping my traveling buddy in the middle of the night deal with what diagnosed two days later in Miami as a serious gall bladder infection (that ultimately required removal). Thank you, Cesar!
The only downside is the wretched condition of the road after Samara and throughout Nosara: potholes that can swallow farm animals and large/deep enough to support their own aquatic ecosystems when it rains. 4WD isn't as important as high ground clearance (we were ok in a Toyota RAV4 - our vehicle of choice for every annual CR expedition).

Room Tip: We had a room behind the pool - far enough from the restaurant/bar for sound sleeping.
