the rooms are a bit dated, but its a very friendly little hotel in the centre of town bed was comfy and the room warm. its not some plastic chain hotel and its not perfect but it is full of character and has a charm lacking in more modern hotels . we had a room front of hotel with nice modern shower. the main reason for being here is the food , very large portions of top quality home made food. if its good enough for rick stein its good enough for me

Room Tip: good secure parking

Having just given two really good reviews for Logis hotels in other regions, I reckon that Logis have a problem in securing 'standards' across the hotels that are part of the Logis network. I could endure the small, plain, worn out room, but hotels are to sleep in. The pillows were small and mean and the pillowcases were at least 4" too long for them. Luckily we had a pair of pillows in the car as we were heading for a gite the next day and after tossing and turning until the early hours we brought our own pillows in and managed to snatch some hours of sleep.
It was a Sunday night, so the restaurant was not open, perhaps we were lucky. We had breakfast - coffee and bread and a croissant (obviously ordered in for the very few guests and doled out!). Parking in their barn of a garage cost another €6.
We booked in a hurry as other hotels (one I had stayed in before) were either full or closed. Castelnaudary on a Sunday night in October is a dismal place to be. I am writing a separate review on where we ate that night as it was a life-saver!
My lesson? Take time and trouble and don't book just anything - move on to another place if necessary!

Stayed for one night in a dated bedroom with a bathroom and toilet installed pre Second World War. No hair dryer, the bath(there was no shower curtain) was worn and marked and the plug when fitted let almost as much water out as flowed in. Lots of hot water though and soft toilet tissue. Very small tv and wifi seemed very complicated to access.
The breakfast was good, the cafe and restaurant seemed very nice but is closed on a Sunday evening and so cannot comment on it.
The room was only 52 euros but needs complete makeover.

Room Tip: The website shows a very modern bathroom, ask for it!

We stayed at the Hotel de France as the Ibis budget was fully booked. Very easy to find, with secure parking attached. The room, as the rest of the hotel, looked a little tired but was clean and functional. The shower is 'over bath' and lacks a shower curtain or the chance to change its height resulting in water everywhere and an achy neck! No hair dryer but its the summer so thats okay. The food in the restaurant was lovely. Really very good for 24 euros each. Breakfast was however a disappointment. only seven euros but very limited choice and only a grumpy lady there to help! She did later give us our parking free and let us leave the car in the secure parking after our official check out. We would stay again knowing these faults. Could also do with aircon in the rooms maybe.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-5 more expensive but overlook the town

Disappointed at having driven some way from Peret to Castelnaudary for lunch at Le Tirou only to find it closed, we decided to make the best of it.
A walk around a lovely town, a few drinks to gather our thoughts in the town square then down to the task of finding some lovely food.
Hotel de France was nondescript from the outside but a number of locals had recommended it to us over said drinks.
We were not at all disappointed.

I think this hotel had seen better days ,but very good value for money and good for a quick pit-stop on your way to your destination. The room was quite small but adequate ,bathroom clean but just a spray shower attached to the bath -tap. The wifi was a joke ,very complicated to use unfortunately and the breakfast was so-so,not very interesting.,it does have a private parking facility right next to the hotel ,so good if you have a car load of stuff you don't want to be seen.Friendly enough staff.

My wife and I stopped in Castelnaudary on our way to Carcassonne from Sarlat. We wanted to see the LeBoat dockage as we had boated down the Garonne canal in September and are considering doing the Midi next year. We did not stay at the hotel and only ate lunch there. From the appearances, the hotel could use a little lipstick and rouge. I chose to have steak and my wife had a salmon crape and spinach timbal. Both dishes were serve with an egg/squash dish that was quite tasty. My steak must have been cut from between the horns as it was tough as tough can be, but still had a nice flavor. My wife salmon was good and the vegetable dish was also good. Larry & Kelly, Georgetown, Texas
