Description: La Grande Salle brings you back in another time. A different and more modern experience awaits you in the plate. Some of the best products, worked by the chef with maturity and creativity, bring plenty of freshness and surprise in the plate. The wine list presents wines from all over France. Big names and friends are largely represented! Au plaisir!

“Exceptional Gascon cuisine”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

This was the third or fourth time we have eaten here but recently the Hotel de France has significantly improved its quality and our Sunday lunch there was quite exceptional. Half a dozen courses are presented on the €40 menu and each one was perfect and served with distinction. The dining room décor demonstrates the history of this old school French restaurant but this is Gascon cuisine that is totally up to date and superb value.
Probably the best mi-cuit foie gras I have ever eaten, great Pacherenc, and a stunning selection of Armagnac to finish. A restaurant of which the Gers should be truly proud. Go!

“Classic old-style Gascon Restaurant”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

We ate at Hotel de France on a Friday lunchtime, and were thoroughly impressed by everything about it. The service was discreet and helpful, the food was delicious - especially the mi-cuit foie gras - and the price was reasonable for the quality of the meal. Even the wine list was reasonably priced and was a good reflection of the wines from Gascony.

Well worth a visit!

“Lamb dish to die for”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

The restaurant was closed for a birthday function but the friendly staff were only too happy to et us view and photo the exquisite art nouveau room. The Brasserie was open and the service was "superb" and the food was just Devine. The local floc was a wonderful aperitif served in purpose made glasses. We received a "petite bouche" and EVERYTHING was amazing. What a delight and surprise. we shared 6 escargot that came out in special little pots with a delicious crouton on top. the sauce with the escargot was beautifully balanced and the perfect base. Now for the amazing lamb. the dish arrived in a lovely bowl with a bed of perfectly cooked and seasoned ratatouille type vegetables but sliced and ordered across the bowl. The tomato based sauce with the vegetables was perfectly seasoned .BUT oh la la ..the Lamb ...yes it was the best we have ever had and my wife is a tremendous cook so that is really saying something. It was the 7 hour lamb! It was sweet, juicy and soooooo tender. it came with the most wondrous coating of herbs and breadcrumbs. We are still raving about this dish as you can see.The wines were wonderful too and were all recommended by the waiter.Local reds.To the chef....Merci Merci Merci!!:-)

“What a Meal”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

Having been given a present of a meal for two we decided to treat ourselves and our daughter and her husband to a meal yesterday, Sunday Lunch. It was the Tres Gourmande menu and it was wonderful. Each course beautifully presented, interesting and tasty. Not huge amounts on one's plate but that was a good thing as 8 courses is some achievement on a hot day. We started with a glass of Champagne and drank a bottle of the most delicious Provencal wine with our meal. Fois Grass was much in evidence but as my daughter does not eat it they happily provided her with other options. It was expensive but so worth it €71 per head approximately. The dining room is huge and was comfortably full. They made no fuss at all about the pram with our 7 week old granddaughter (who luckily behaved brilliantly). The service was not fast but that was not a problem as one needed the time to savour the wonderful textures and inventiveness of the cook. Taken over 4 years ago in a very run down state the 3 brothers who run it are making improvements and we will very certainly be going back and soon. I would highly recommend this restaurant and their bistro but go to the restaurant with time to enjoy the faded ambience and lovely food.

“Great setting but that's all”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

The restaurant is sited in a fabulous room but the food and the service just don't live up to it. The service is slow, we have been three times in the hope it will get better but it doesn't. The menu is ambitious but the end product just isn't good enough. The only saving grace is the wine list which is reasonably priced. But that aside there is nothing but a high bill for an indifferent meal.
