Calampiso Sea Country Resort

I thought the rooms were very spacious and had all the amenities you need; living room, kitchen table, kitchen. The beds are not comfortable, but you are in Sicily in the most beautiful seaside mountains. There is a market on site, entertainment, so/so pool area, outside stage, great espresso bar, and perfect beach. I loved going and laying out on the beach and reading a book. Lots of pretty nature all around and great for walks. The water views are amazing form almost the entire grounds, and the staff is very energetic and fun! Great place to stay with families. I loved it.

Right on the Zingaro Natural Water Reserve, the sea is clear, transparent and interesting to explore. A real community in the Village, the Zulu Club Staff make you feel very welcome. The apartments, internally, are in real need of a renovation.

Remote, interesting location near the protected national park but horrendous management.
It starts that you need to identify yourself to the gatekeeper that keys in your passport details. Ok, can accept it even if unusual.
Then you leave your car in the parking near the entrance and someone will come to get your luggage. It takes so long you end up carrying it yourself to reçeption where they tell you that you need to take to your room yourself. Apparently there is a service but you need to pay 2 eurosper person.
Run down facilities, no investment sinçe the 70s. Air conditionrd broke down. Of course, no sea view as booked.
Nothing to eat for breakfst, just crackers and milk.
In the way too overcrowded pool, you need to wear a cap. Yes, a cap...apparently for hygienic reasons, whatever that means.
Staff is very nice and tried to please but absent management dictated some very weird rules and they have to follow.
The site tells about a 1km beach but we couldn t find it.
We slept one night, no other option and got the hell out as quickly as possible. Make sure you don t pay in advance before you see the place...

San Vito lo Capo is sort at the end of the world, as far as Sicily is concerned. Calampiso Club is about 30 miles past that end of the world. It is at the end of the road, where it dead-ends into the Zingaro nature preserve. It took us about two hours to find it, because all signage gave out in San Vito. We just kept going, and eventually came to it (the carabinieri had a radar trap set up on the otherwise deserted 40 kmh road). After we drove down a switchback road worthy of the Stelvio Pass, we came to a guard gate who put us through the Third Degree before allowing us into this "exclusive" property. It certainly has a view - across the Golfo di Castellamare toward Palermo. And it has some amazing turquoise waters. But that's about it. At least for us. Our experience was deflated by the resort asking us for another cash deposit against theft, breakage and other malfeasance. This was in addition to a sizable resort fee we had already been charged prior to arriving. And "city taxes" for some mythical city that did not exist in the nearby uninhibited area. The room was a disaster. Dark green, green tile (ala the 1950s), Boy Scout camp caliber furnishings (cots, bunks, futons, etc - but no actual beds). No actual furnishings other than that either. Loved the hot place, in lieu of the advertised full kitchen facilities. A nine-inch black & white tube TV. Did you bring your own towels, bed linens or toilet paper? I sure hope so. Also, despite that daily resort fee you paid up front? It's another 2 euro for each beach towel you want to use. Similar amounts for dish towels, wash cloths, or bath mats. Each. Plus a 100 euro cash deposit against loss, theft, embezzlement, etc. You are provided a list of 110 items the unit is supposed to have - worth an estimated 1,100 euro or more - that you are responsible for. (If nothing's missing - unlikely since most of the things on the list were missing when you checked in - your deposit is payable back to you 30 days after you leave - if applicable.) If you object to shopping at the miserable little "store" on-site for supplies, you can always drive back into the nearest town (over 10 km away) and shop - beware the carabinieri speed trap! Don't like the overpriced, under-whelming restaurant or snack bar on site? Just drive that 20 km round trip back to San Vito (where there is no place to park). Oh and watch out for that speed trap. Or stay in the resort, and pay the ripoff prices - which is what the management wants you to do anyway. And remember how exclusive this place is!

Room Tip: A tip for choosing a good room? Would be to stay elsewhere.

Pictures on internet site were totally deceptive. Room and grounds were less than acceptable, wouldn't have let my dog stayed in such sub standard accomodations. Restaurant and bar were not open until 6 pm....broken glass window panes around the bar were substiuted with plywood. No one hardly spoke English...was very diffculte to communicate with on site staff.
