booked this hotel last minute, when we arrived we paid 50 euros per night to upgrade to a suite as were keen to get a balcony to enjoy the sun & seaview (all standard rooms with seaviews were booked). Unfortunately the room was on the bottom floor and had no sun on the balcony, so alittle disappointed but the room was beautiful and very big (room 290). Lovely location of this small town, but loads of restaurants and beach bars right outside. Wine was under 2 euros and there is a fantastic cocktail bar just outside the hotel which served fantastic cocktails for only 3.50 euros during happy hour (8pm-10pm). We caught the bus into Nerja for 1.17 euro and were very impressed with Nerja. Would return to the hotel, although next time would prefer to stay in Nerja itself.

Room Tip: higher floor rooms to benefit from the sun.

Dear Louise,

Thank you very much for the time you spent to share your personal impressions on your stay at our IBEROSTAR Malaga Playa hotel. We always welcome feedback, as it allows us to continually improve the experience we create for our guests.

We lament your disappointment on the location of the room we accommodated you in; however on a last minute booking notice during a high occupancy period unfortunately we were not able to offer you a room on an upper floor.

On the other hand, we are glad you were satisfied with the comfort and beauty of your room as well as our location with a wide array of leisure and dining options on the doorstep.

Once again, thank you for your time, we hope that you had a pleasant journey back home and to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in our IBEROSTAR hotels in the most beautiful destinations worldwide.

We have just returned from a short break at this hotel, which we booked ourselves through Booking.com. Reading some of the previous reviews I agree with some of the comments but disagree with others. Overall, we were far more impressed than we expected to be. As it was a short break and not our main holiday, our priorities were relaxation, good weather and good food and of course a decent hotel which we weren't paying very much for.
The Iberostar delivered in these criteria, although after enjoying some much needed peace & quiet from Wednesday to Friday, come Friday night the hotel got very busy with weekenders maybe, a few groups of young ladies who'd obviously come for a girlie weekend and quite a few families with young children. If we went again and I think we would, we'd choose midweek for our break, although saying that, there was no rowdiness and it didn't bother us too much. Just a lot busier around the pool, but always plenty of sunbeds, not sure about high season though. Most of the guests were Spanish or German and we were very much in the minority being Brits. Not a problem at all, but if you're the type who likes to socialise with your fellow holiday makers, better brush up on your German language!
The housekeeping was spot on and we were highly impressed with our room, massive bed, balcony with sea view and separate dressing area, with plenty of storage. Nice bathroom too with window.
The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout, the buffet breakfast great, with cava which you can help yourself too and even caviar. We paid an extra £40 overall with Booking.com for half board which we never usually do as we like to eat at local restaurants, but it was such a good deal it seemed silly not to. The evening buffets were good, but we stuck mainly to the salads/tapas etc as the main courses were not really our thing, but you can have a great meal if you pick and choose carefully The cheeseboard was very good and a fabulous selection of breads, morning & evening. You could eat yourself silly if you were so inclined!! Although we liked the food, the restaurant was a bit too like a dining hall for our liking, but we did find a quiet spot where there were just a few tables, away from everyone wandering around the buffet. There is a lovely outside space where you are able to sit and have breakfast, but this wasn't open in the evenings. Maybe they intend to open this in the high season? We did eat out a couple of times and there is a good selection of restaurants/snack bars behind the hotel on the paseo between the hotel and the beach.
Some reviewers have mentioned the fact that the hotel charge for the safe, which in my opinion should be included in the price. It's 17 euros for a week or 4 euros per night, a bit steep. As for the towels and the car park which have come under fire on this site, there is a deposit of 10 euros per towel for the duration of your stay, and you can change them whenever you like, although the fact this is done on reception is annoying as sometimes there is a long wait while the reception staff are dealing with other people. Why cannot this be done by a member of the pool staff outside? In my opinion this needs reviewing. The deposit is returned at the end of your holiday, so no problem there! As for the car parking, I don't know why people are moaning, there is a massive public car park adjacent to the hotel which is free. Only the underground parking is chargeable and there is absolutely no need to pay for this.
The architecture of the hotel is beautiful and the grounds stunning too. The beach has grey sand and would look prettier with golden sand, but not a lot the hotel can do about this! Nicely set up though with parasols and comfortable beds for guests.
All in all, a very pleasant break. Go in the off season midweek if you like peace & quiet, or if you want a family holiday with kids this would be a great choice at peak times.

Room Tip: Definitely worth paying for a sea view, as some rooms overlooked the car park.

Nice hotel, immaculately clean & the staff work very hard. Food good, not sure what others are complaining about. We were a party of 13 & all happy with choice & quality. Disagree with paying for a safe & we got locked out our room one day as the lock was faulty. Staff were very quick to help but took ages to sort, guess just old room locks. We had an apartment which was great just because we had more space to spread out, a litte tired decor but big hotel so hard to keep on top of it.
Nice pool, if a little cold, again, very clean. Downside from our point was that its so quiet, we were frowned upon for having fun by other guests & not much to do when it rains, could do with a games room.
Overall a good experience but probably wouldn't return.

We travelled with our 2 year old especially for the indoor pool. As it was quite windy those days, we took advantage of the indoor facilities. Lots of swimming, and great fun with the activites staff.
The quizz etc at night were lots of fun and the staff were extra friendly making it lots of fun for all the small children in the hotel.
Highly recommended.

We travelled for the Easter holiday with my partner's extended family (six adults, three children) for a week's break. We stayed in three apartments, as this allowed the two couples (myself and partner, and his parents) to be on the same floor as his sister and husband with their children. We all had a view of the entrance to the hotel and the mountains behind.

The apartments are rather nice and spacious - definitely the best way to take three children under 12 on holiday. However, the sofas in the rooms (sofa beds) could do with replacing. The cushions were looking very tired - a bright yellow is friendly and "Iberostar", but does not hide any dirt, and is also hard to clean! The same goes for the chairs in the restaurant - some of them need reupholstering or a thorough cleaning.

The lack of a kettle suggests that the hotel does not particularly understand what British visitors will expect in a kitchenette, though to a German or Spaniard it may be less noticeable. A kettle is essential for making tea... We had to do tea Indian style in a pan. For ourselves, the kitchenette was not so important as we stayed half board, but to a family with small children this is probably much more important. Our nieces tend to want things like hot chocolate before bedtime, for example.

We did think that the deposit for the safe was somewhat steep, and ought to be included in a four star hotel package, so we didn't use it. I'm glad I didn't get a hire car if they were charging for parking - disgraceful! There were some great staff on Reception, but one woman was not very helpful, so we went away until someone else was available. Everyone else was nice.

The hotel is not actually in the village of Torrox - it is with a string of other hotels and bars on the beach (not the nicest beach ever, though not the worst either). There were events going off for the Easter season in the village, but there didn't seem to be much information around to get guests involved or get them up to the village. I'm a culture type traveller - help in getting even as far as Torrox village or Nerja would have been a big boost.

The indoor pool got crowded with small children when the weather turned bad. I went to the spa and had a lovely relaxing massage, then read a whole book in one go, but beyond that, there isn't much to do if it rains. (Oh - you could go try to drink the bar dry, but it is hardly best use of a holiday, I think!)

The food is lovely, and the chefs and waiting staff are all very friendly. I will dream of churros for a long time after this! However two things made it much harder to get three children through dinner in peace. This affected several families that we saw, so I am sure that to fix it would be a great help.

The first was that there was a lowered ice cream counter so that even our two year old niece could help herself to ice cream. This meant that all dinnertime discipline ("Eat your main course, and then perhaps we can consider ice cream") goes straight out of the window. How are we meant to get children to eat properly and sociably with this distraction? Why not lower the salad bar instead?

The second distraction was the Play Friends coming into the dining room like the Pied Piper of Hamlyn and persuading children away from their dinners to the "mini disco". Well no sooner had we sat down one night, than hey presto the lovely lady who did the mini disco came around, and our polite family meal was turned upside down - the children would not eat or sit still, but insisted on going straight into the disco. So various adults in our group were staying with the children, then swapping over and eating a bit of their dinner, and so on. This is not conducive to a nice dinner.

The disco was run earlier than normal that night so that it could be finished in time for the big football match to come on. Well, OK, but please leave it to the parents to decide whether the children leave the table, and do not send someone in collecting children at random without making sure that 100% of their parents have consented. The little one in our group nearly went missing.

The Play Friends were great with the children, though, and were quick to spot that the toddler in our group had lost her stuffed blue cow toy and return it.

Overall, the hotel is well kept, friendly and will keep you well fed, and though the decor is slightly pastiche it reflects something of the history of Andalusia. I loved the candelabras and lanterns, and the little fountain in the entrance courtyard. The only serious downside is that it is not in a village, but stuck out of the way.

Room Tip: I didn't particularly notice anything that might make certain rooms more or less worthy. The ap...

Dear Guest,

We sincerely thank you for the time and effort spent to share your impressions about your stay at our IBEROSTAR Malaga Playa hotel; we appreciate all of your input, as it helps us identify areas that could use more attention to detail.

As you can see both on our brochure and website a full description of our hotel’s location, room amenities and services is duly reported; for guests coming by car, there is an extensive public parking free of charge just outside our hotel’s entrance, only the underground parking is on extra charge; moreover, we do not provide tea/coffee making facilities in rooms as this is not a standard for European 4 star hotels outside the UK and mostly for safety reasons, we sincerely lament your disappointment on this aspect.

We also took good note of your comment on the ice cream station at our restaurant, obviously, parents are the ones in charge of the election of their children’s meal, and we encourage them to always escort their kids at the time of choosing their menu.

Our animation staff comes into the restaurant around 20h20 pm and invites our little guests to join in the mini disco, the majority of children have already had their meal at this time and we consider that waiting further may be too late for the youngest ones; here again, no child is forced to join in and of course if a parent points us out that his child shouldn’t leave the table, our staff will not insist; nevertheless we will not fail to pass on your comments to our head of animation so as to ensure that all parents are consentient; our hotel offers a full animation program both for adults and children, we encourage you for future occasions to contact our call center from where we can give you all the relevant information and help you to choose the destination, hotel type and services that best meet your family’s holiday needs and wishes.

On the other hand we are sincerely grateful for your positive mention on the comfort and cleanliness of our accommodations and public installations as well as on the quality and variety of our restaurant’s buffets.

Last but not least, we also appreciate your kind words towards our staff, their kindness and helpfulness being one of our hotel's main strengths we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us.

Thank you once again for your visit and constructive critics; we hope that you had a comfortable journey back home and to have the pleasure of welcoming you back at our IBEROSTAR hotels around the world in the near future, ensuring you in advance of our best intentions at all times.

Good hotel, nice swimming pool and good food. But I find it very bad that you have to pay extra for things as parking, room safe, pooltowels (deposit), wifi. That's a 4-star hotel unworthy. Furthermore airco was not (only fan) on although it as warm.
There was a complete entertainment group, but nobody was interested in doing anything because 90% of the guest were elderly people, so why is there an entertainment team for day time? Also 2 poolguards on a pool were on average 10 people are in. Why do I have to pay for this service? These people are not doing anything

Dear Guest,

Firstly we would like to thank you for choosing our IBEROSTAR Malaga Playa hotel for your holidays in Andalusia and for the time you spent to share your feeling son your stay; at IBEROSTAR we realize that there is always room for improvement and feedback is crucial in this process so we thank you for your review.

We lament reading that apparently you were not properly informed about our hotel’s services at the time of reservation and would like to take the opportunity to point out that the extra charges for the room safe and Wi Fi access are duly reported both on our brochure and website; moreover we would like to clarify that a huge communal parking is available and free of charge just beside our hotel’s entrance, only the covered one is on extra charge.

At IBEROSTAR we believe that nice leisure activities and entertaining evening shows are part of the real holiday feeling this is why our animation team strives to offer a wide range of activities for our guests to join in, depending on the occupancy and type of clientele, the participation may vary.

Finally, we would like to point out that our lifeguards on duty by the pool are in charge first of all of the security of our guests and this includes the respect of the pool area’s rules such as checking that no guests are using crystal glasses or bottles, that all kids are wearing arm floats, that no one is playing ball to avoid accidents, to close the sunshades when it gets windy and ensure that no one reserves the sunbeds with pool towels for long periods of time without using them.

On the other hand, we thank you for letting us know that our buffets met your expectations, the gastronomy being an important aspect for IBEROSTAR, our talented Chefs do their utmost to please all palates; It is enjoyable to read that we could conquer yours.

We stayed just before Easter and were an extended family group. The hotel and grounds are first class , with a large and well organised pool area. The rooms are more than adequate and were spotlessly cleaned each day . Our daughter and family had an apartment and as they have three children , including a young baby , they were concerned about the space. They found the apartment to be perfect - especially as it had its own kitchen area with microwave and hob . The staff were incredibly helpful and always cheerful and friendly. Monica in the dining room adopted us and was lovely........as were all the waiters and waitresses. The entertainment team earned their money ten times over - working really hard and cheerfully with both children and adults throughout the day ....and often night as well . A few minor niggles .....at peak times the reception was very busy and you had to wait rather too long ( I know - go out of peak times !!....but you can't always choose when you need to go to reception ) The food was on the whole very good but it did get a bit repetitive - a common complaint in buffets. Finally if you are keen on a beach holiday I would look elsewhere - the beach is not good and seemed to be composed of stones and dirt rather than golden sand .

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor and had very limited view - pay more ( I think that was an option ) and...
