Stayed in great apartment block down the El Faro (Lighthouse) end of the town. Didn't realise quite how windy it can be here but when the sun shines and it nearly always did, this made up for the wind. I think this corner is particularly windy. Worth mentioning is the Mini-Market Jeyma the proprietor put up very well with my interpretation of spanish and helped me learn the words for most of his fruit and vegetables.Very cheap and huge fruits and vegetables all reasonably priced and great Torrox Wine, bring your own bottle. Also the friendliness and helpful take-away lady Asador De Pollo Elena. Best curries, pizzas and cooked chickens. Just order and she will tell you a time to collect them. Delicious and very, very reasonable. Also a visit to Jimmy's Bar on a Tuesday evening where we had great Jam Sessions with some great musicians and a big mention to Karl who kept us entertained with his singing, guitar playing and the sounds that came out of his wooden box that produced incredible drum sounds. Amazing.

The cheapness and friendliness compared to further south on Costa del Sol. Ideal for touring other places like Granada, Nerja etc.

long flat promenade with numerous good value cafes, restaurants and bars located directly on the beach, great to sit in the sun with a drink and watch the world go by!

Being a nearby resident I could be accused of being biased about this place, but if you like somewhere a little different then this could be it! This is a low key resort which will appeal to those seeking the quieter life. Restaurants and cafés aplenty along the long flat prom, from Asian Bens at the eastern end of the prom through to typical spanish fayre, one or two chinese restaurants, an Indian restaurant also. The busiest part of the beach is the eastern end nearest the lighthouse - with quite a number of regimented sunbeds available for hire. Go further west for the more casual beach users and chiringuitos offering the locally caught sardines etc. The prom is also host to the 4 star hotel (Ex RIU Playa Ferrara) Iberostar. In the summer the atmosphere is laid back, and small market stalls open on the prom offering goods from books to hand made jewellery.
