“Just about as good as it gets”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

This charming old mansion is a delight. Architecture and grounds are typical Spanish provincial and in a peaceful setting. Room was spacious and nice bathroom, with little terrace. Staff were amazingly friendly and obliging. We have a 13month old and they arranged a cot at no notice on Sunday evening (agent forgot to tell the hotel) and nothing was too much trouble. I must say this isn't a child friendly place generally, although the staff would have taken bub home I reckon. We are blessed with a good baby, but other guests were not happy when we turned up for dinner the first night pushing a pram. They all warmed to her over 5 days though.
The restaurant is as good as it gets. Breakfast and dinner are fabulous, but dinner in particular is first class.
We would recommend this to couples, probably not for kids although a young baby would be fine (if they aren't a screamer!) we would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed for five days there on May. The hotel itself is a very old (from 1400!) house, but perfectly adapted for it working as a hotel, without losing any of the charm. For example, it has a very convenient elevator.

Our room was very big and comfortable, with a very nice bathroom. We had dinner a couple of nights at the hotel restaurant, and enjoyed a lot both the food and the service.

Be aware that this hotel is very near to Mahon, and the most beautiful beaches are close to Ciutadella, so you will need to drive approximately one hour from the hotel to get to the beaches. But don't worry, it's worth the trip.

Stayed here with my husband for our honeymoon. Such a romantic room and property. Loved the coastal walks to nearby beaches, the dimly lit dinner times (WONDERFUL restaurant), the gorgeous architecture and the perfect interior design...We just really appreciated the seclusion and quality of service. The pictures do it justice, this was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed.

My wife and I went again to the Hotel Alcaufar Vell for lunch and it was the best meal we've ever had in our lives: quality, presentation, service, ambience etc. Incredibly we were the only people there...a travesty. I can only commend it to anyone resident or visiting. We've a place on Menorca and have been going regularly for 10 years, eating at most of the best restaurants on the island. This is the best.

We'll will definitely come back to this marvellous hotel. All rooms are really spotless, with a jacuzzi bath. Personal service is exceptionally welcoming. Some of the rooms are located in the main building with outstanding sea views, others are situated in adjacent buildings with a wonderful terrace, where you can lay down under the sun while you hear the birds. As well, a swimming pool. The main building dates back to the XII century. The whole property has been wonderfully restored. That's really good value for money. Alone, a couple or the whole family, it's the place to go. Recommend it! Excellent!

We spent 8 days in Menorca, 2 of which were at Alcaufar Vell. We stayed in a superior room with terrace - the room was well furnished and comfortable. Whilst the hotel is in a rural area, towns, villages, beaches and the nearest city (Mao) are all easily accessible. Sant Lluis is only a couple of kms down the road and has some decent tapas bars if you don't want to stray too far. The beach at Alcalfar is small, but peaceful with a nice restaurant for seafood just next to the beach. Cala Fonts is another option close by for bars/restaurants. The only downside was that we were disappointed with the food on the evening we chose to eat at the hotel. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

This hotel has become one of our favorites both with and without friends. The restaurant is superb with a twist on traditional spanish food particularly the tapas. Slightly off the beaten track but a few minutes drive from the sea and approximately 15 minutes drive from the airport.
