We were a large pary staying at the big house with 6 children ranging 7 weeks to 2 year olds.
First in a positive note i would like to say the staff were friendly.
Unfortunately, the first afternoon in, we had rain with thunders, and apparently one of the thunders messed with the electrical system of the house leaving us without AA.
Also the rooms include 2 beds put together that keep separating into a gap in wich our child kept falling, so be sure (even if you co-sleep!) to pack a travel bed for this hotel. (It had only one cot available at the time for our use). Also i do think this is very unromantic even for couples ;)...
The pool although little was nice and social areas are very well put together, clean and spacious.
The inn also includes a little bar/cafe and restaurant wich we did not try but looked great.
The second night in a row without AA was very unconfortable... The temperature in the house rised altough we did our cooking outside in the barbecue, and kept courtains closed during day and by night it was barely torable. We asked the staff for help, but apparently they dont own any fans. The only suggestion was to open the windows without the light on to avoid attracting too many mosquitoes.... Thank god we didnt followed it.
Just from the ins and outs of the day there were a lot!!! Even though we had electric anti-mosquitoes provided by the inn ON.
Needless to say, heat, babies and mosquitoes DO NOT MIX WELL...

So to be sure of enjoying this inn and getting your money worth pack anti mosquitoes and travel cot for your babies!
And i really hope they follow our suggestions and pick up a few fans for emergencies, beause it was certainly the downfall of our stay.

We spent 9 nights in L'Arcada de Fares in August 2013, 2 adults and our 2.5yo daughter. Although we had seen the positive reviews, we were impressed by the overall quality of the place and really enjoyed our stay: clean and spacious room with elegant decoration (Rossinyol), efficient and professional staff, clean swimming pool, great restaurant, kids playground (there were lots of kids, and all families seemed to enjoy the place).

On the to-improve side:
* We were a bit disappointed by the breakfast (small buffet, not much choice), but perhaps that's common in Spain (we're from Switzerland).
* The doors to the swimming pool were often left open and one of them directly communicates with the kids playground, which is dangerous given the amount of (sometimes unsupervised) kids playing around.
* The reception desk only opens at 9:30am, so you officially can't check out before that time (unless you arrange with the staff in advance).

4 night stay during a cycle holiday. great location within rural setteing. 3 mins to nearest town by car. you will need a car for this area.
Neus was very welcoming and warm at reception and looked after us. This is a family business and they seek to deliver a very positive service.
The pool is very pleasant and the area very relaxing. Great cycling routes near by.
Will go back!
Thank you Neus - regards to your mother and brother.

My husband and myself, eldest daughter and her family and many friends stayed here for a week in September to celebrate the wedding of our youngest daughter Kate to Rob. What a fabulous place, the grounds so pretty and the interiors done to a very high standard. We had a B.B.Q most nights (several areas supplied by the hotel) and ate in the restaurant too where we had lovely food. The owner and staff were fabulous and were only too happy to help especially as it rained cats and dogs on the actual wedding day. Luckily the place had a open sided room in the gardens which we moved into complete with bar, kitchen and toilets so we didn't get wet after the initial dash.
only snag was no kettle (only Brits use one for tea!) but one was loaned to us by the hotel. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore too much but think Besalu is beautiful.
Would certainly return to this hotel.

Just wanted to share what a fantastic time we have just spent at L'arcada de Fares. We stayed in the two large apartments for a week with all the family, then were joined at the weekend by all our friends to be married in the hotel grounds!
The staff couldn't have been more fantastic, helpful and friendly for the whole time. The wedding was incredible and would highly recommend to anyone think of getting married there to do it!
The apartment rooms are finished to a high spec and were perfect for us all to stay for the week. The restaurant was great food and they did a great job and serving just over 70 of us!
A big thank you to Neus and her staff and we will return for a holiday a soon as possible!

We stayed at L'arcada de Fares for the final 3 nights of our holiday after staying on the Costa Brava. The accommodation provided is first rate, we stayed in a studio apartment (Xaloc) on the 2nd floor (reached by a lift if needed) and it was very spacious with a wall hiding the sleeping area from the living, eating and kitchen area, there was a good kitchenette and food preparation area. The terrace was enormous and had good quality table and chairs, the shower room was also very spacious and large bath sheets were provided. The whole place has been built to a high specification with luxurious finishes. Furniture and furnishings are first rate. We felt like we were staying somewhere far more expensive than it was.
On arrival the charming receptionist was very helpful giving us tips on places to visit along with maps and ideas for restaurants she thought we would like.
The location is perfect to explore Besalu, Banyoles and the lake and the volcanic area towards Olot, all of which can be reached in minutes, the down side to this is that there is a busy road very close to the property, this has to be weighted though by the glorious views in the opposite direction away from the road! There is a small swimming pool, free wi fi access. The restaurant and bar were closed, except at weekends, on our visit in mid September so we were not able to experience meals there.
An excellent place to stay for anyone who wants something more than a hotel room to return to after a day out, I would highly recommend this accommodation

Room Tip: Studio Xaloc was lovely
