Since eating at Hugo's recently - have read an earlier review about the casserole - which was our chosen meal. And we thoroughly enjoyed it . Portion size was great, plenty of meat & veg, lashings of gravy . The "dumpling" was in our humble opinion , more of a scone-like texture - a "cobbler" perhaps . But it was ok . They only serve food til 6pm on a Saturday - which seems terribly early for a kitchen to be closing . The menu was decent & I'd happily eat here again .

Had the baked ham. It was delicious. Even though cook was off sick and had to wait 25 mins. Well worth the wait.

We went to Tynemouth just for a light lunch with the family - there were 10 of us ranging from age 10-86. We wanted to go to Woods but they were full so ended up in Hugo's.
We managed to put some tables together but then a group left so we were able to move to a big table. The menu was varied and very reasonably priced and when I went to order the young guy was really helpful and although it was a big order, he got it right first time. He said it would be about 30 minutes and it was, but that was fine by us. We managed to spill a drink too, but he came and cleaned the table and replaced the drink even though it was out fault !
The food arrived all at once and was fresh and hot, the portions were good and everyone ate everything. The food came to £57 and the drinks £20 - they were all soft drinks apart from a glass of wine and a shandy
It was a relaxed afternoon would definitely go back and we all would have happily had everything everyone else had !

Relaxing atmosphere. We ordered food at 3pm on a Saturday and told it would take 40 which it did. Ordered one of the "hot sandwiches" and some fries - both were cold, and I mean completely cold which spoilt any enjoyment - after waiting 40 mins if was disappointing. Having already paid for the meal at the bar there wasn't really an option to not to pay! Unfortunately no one asked if meal was ok either!! The waiter who served us was very friendly on the positive.
