The Turk's Head is actually a knot. Despite the pub sign showing a distinctly Asian caricature it's got nothing to do with the Turkish, delight or otherwise. The fowl, turkey, definitely has absolutely nowt to do with the pub. Turkey, on the hand, spelt with a capital T is the country Turks come from. But the head, is still a knot and the pub is still the turkey's nuts - nothing whatsoever to do with the Turk, if you get my drift...

Enjoy!

So, The Turks Head. Nice public house but not a single Turk in sight. A dog: yes? A dog's body in a case: yes. This establishment ought to be called the Dog's Box because there is no connection with Turkey, let alone a Turkish person or even the head of a Turkish person. They don't even sell Turkish Delight, nor are there Turkish baths offering Turkish massage. Don't go to this hostelry if you're expecting any reference at all to turkey. A nice pint and a chat, maybe whilst watching some non-Turkish football or listening to some non-Turkish music. Definitely. Actually, that's a lie. I once watched a Galatasaray game in there.

The Turks has long been renowned for its "properpubness" and its good beer. Add to that a friendly, smiling staff and you need look no further for a good Tynemouth pub. Forget the brash, noisy, sticky keg outlets with their "let's get sloshed as quickly as possible" clientele and the sparkly expensive wino bars with their grossly inflated prices, the Turks is the bar to while away your time in Tynemouth. Just ask the dog, he's hung around there for years so it must be good!
