“If you feel the cold you'll be o.k. here!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Unfortunately this hotel was so overheated (at the end of July) most of the guests spent any spare time outside! It was difficult to open windows because they were the old sash type and there was no through draft because the air filter in the bathroom needed cleaning out. The Bathroom stayed warm all day & all night. We noticed on the 2nd day that the radiators in the corridors were on full 24 hours a day- no wonder we were frazzled! We were lucky that we weren't sat next to a radiator in the Dining room because one of the guests burnt her arm 3 times during her stay! The food was very good- lots of choice and well cooked. The rooms were clean and comfortable-just too hot. The staff in the Dining Room were very helpful and we were surprised to be have orange juice or water provided with our Evening meal. Trying to toast bread in the mornings was another matter because the toasters (2 provided) were so SLOW....the queues soon built up. It pays you to go early for breakfast or the food runs out.
The Entertainment happened on 2 of our 4 nights stay. The first singer was good but his songs were so old.... The second singer was Jimmy who was very entertaining and allowed audience participation with tambourines- hilarious! We really enjoyed that evening.
Our room was opposite the Aquarium and we had a wonderful view of the sea but the sea-lions opposite often woke in the early hours and as they had access to their outside pool, we could easily hear them! It was good to watch them during the day though.
If it was practical you need to take your own fan, a toaster that doesn't take all day and a T.V. lead that is long enough to get good reception to the Ariel or you'll only be able to receive 2 BBC T.V. channels! We were given two small packets of biscuits every day though!

Room Tip: We were on the First floor which was up 2 flights of stairs. There is a further floor higher up but...

Dysentery by the sea was the title given to this hotel many years ago and it lives up to that name
The most discourteous staff in existence dirty toilets warm beer and slow service.
Attending a friends wedding on 26/07/14 it started out badly the room was booked for 200 they had 80 seats and the wedding party had to set the room the buffet was at best mediocre and the bar staff when they bothered opening it were slow as well as the beer being £4.00 per pint and it was warm. the saving graces were the guests who all made the best of the night and the disco which was excellent (Booked externally not through the hotel) I felt so sorry for the bride and groom I would never recommend anyone booking this hotel under any circumstances.

Room Tip: To chose a good room at the park hotel go to the grand hotel 3 minutes walk away.

Ok where do i start my Partner and i had our wedding reception at the Park hotel on 19th July 2014. I am going to start with the positives. The room was really spacious and we had our own bar area. The food was amazing. Seriously can not fault the chef. He did an outstanding job considering what we asked for wasn't on the normal wedding packages and the night time buffet was all so brilliant. Lots of food and a lot of variety.
When booking the park i spoke to Joseph the manager and he was very yes no problem, what ever you would like we can accommodate you. That was brilliant or so i thought however as it turned out thats all it was, words. Personally i have been in the Royal Navy for 14 year and function planning is my bred and butter. Maybe its because of this that i noticed alot of mistakes made by staff. The day before the wedding when i arrived it was a nightmare trying to get staff to help me put tables where i wanted them. i spent more time asking for help than anything else. I sent floor plans via e-mail to joseph so there was no Question of how things should have been. I had a LOVE sign on the stage it was huge at lights up. Clearly i had paid for it yet joseph let the DJ put all his equipment in front of it so it couldn't be used. i personally would expect the function manager to in form the DJ and take control of where things go in the room.
We arrived early on the day due to bad weather. We couldnt go to get our pictures done outside so we went to the Park I did say the day before that if the weather was bad we would arrive erly however this seemed to fall on deaf ears. As when we arrived we had to go into the main hotel bar a our bar was locked up. i specifically asked for a spare venue room to be cleared the day before incase we needed it for pictures. was it done NO. When we finally got to go through to our bar we only had 1 bar staff. This was for 120 Guests. It was Not acceptable at all. and that 1 staff was actually from reception so taking them away ment no one could be checked in. A few small things that were annoying where the toilet lights were not on so we had to track someone down to do that (it took 20 minutes) The toilets needed restocked almost immediately. my venue room still had all the main lights on and the Dance floor and celling lights were off (they should have been on). When we entered the room i had to ask for the candles to be lit again that should have been done before we entered. The toasts! we went over this about 10 times. i said pour champagne for everyone do not pour the whiskey untill the piper leaves the room as people will think thats what the whiskey is for. Did this happen NO.The Meal took far far too long (over 2 1/2 hours) this was again due to total lack of staff 3 maybe 4 waitresses all of whom clearly were not happy. I had to ask for alot of things to be done on the day like tables to be cleared. As a bride and after the amount of money it cost i should not have been doing this. The Prices were extortionate £2.50 for a Diet Coke. Maybe i wouldn't have minded if i didn't have to queue for an hour to get it.
Rooms- The rooms were a disgrace. We had the bridal suit so that was lovely however only 2 tiny windows open so it was really hot. There was huge confusion with booking. when we checked the room list no names were spelt correct and people who did book rooms didn't have them so i wrote a a list of everyone who had booked and sent it to the hotel. The mother of the groom got given a room with people actually in it. Everyone commented on the state of the rooms. They were disgusting and in serious need of cleaning.
When i went to Collect things that were left behind on the night i was told they had been put in the bin!!!! Personalised Glasses with names and dates on, I dont care who you are there is no way you would think that was rubbish especially as the bridal party were still in the hotel. also a Present box that the father of the bride used had props in it for his speech. again it had clothes in but i was told it was binned and that was that.
I left my ear rings in the bridal suit by mistake. i called straight up but was told nothing was handed in and they would get back to me.... im still waiting. as far as i am concerned yes i shouldn't have left them but that is theft.
Lastly the morning we were checking out we went for breakfast and after a 20 minute wait i got fed up went behind reception and called the kitchen to ask for food. I dont understand how they can put breakfast on but not have any staff to do it. there was only 4 of us eating yet non of us ate at the same time as it took forever to get our food.
Lastly checking out took forever again total lack of staff.
Like i said in the beginning i had a fantastic day but this was solely down to my own hard work and preparation. The Park seriously has the best Venue and the Best Chef around but has been seriously let down by Total lack of staff. Given the right person in charge and this venue could be "the Place to beat" however i cant see this happening. I wrote this letter to the venue and they chose to ignore it and also not contact me about my ear rings so it was given a fair shot at redeeming itself before i posted this. If you have the money to get everything from an outside source especially a function manager then this place would be perfect. I would stick with the chef tho because like i said the food was outstanding. If anyone would like me to answer more questions truthfully contact me on gemma-glass@hotmail.com.

Room Tip: bridal suit seems to be the only clean room.

A one day stay at this holiday was quite enough. It was dirty, understaffed and falling apart literally. The bathroom ceiling panels were hanging off. There was no hot water for either bath or shower. A national holidays trip so we are used to many kinds of hotel. this was quite the worst i have stayed in. A real poor start to an otherwise reasonable weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the nwer part of the hotel and ask to see it when you arrive.

We visited this hotel with National Holidays so for the price did not expect luxury, but where pleasantly surprised.
The room was very basic but really clean and the bedding, towels etc where spot on.The only complaint about the room was the lack of a bedside lamp or switch so you had to get out of bed to turn lights off.
The evening carvery was excellent and the buffet breakfast was very good with a decent choice.
The hotel is right on the seafront and a pleasant walk into Tynemouth village.

Room Tip: Sea view best of all.

We stayed one night here with National Holidays on a budget weekend, and got a budget hotel, which needs some tlc and some improvements in its general service. Room had a good view over the sea and had probably been refurbished not that long ago, and was roomy with a comfortable bed, but there were unidentifiable marks and messes on the walls with a sticky bathroom floor, still, we slept well and it didn't really affect us. Dinner was acceptable if you like a carvery, but no fish or vegetarian option. Breakfast was good and you could have as much as you liked. Service at mealtime was a bit grudging, though efficient, and they could not understand me ordering the orange juice starter when I had got one from the bar as well. It was clear that better food was offered to individual guests in their medditeranean diner. We were perhaps lucky with our bedroom, as one guest reported a room that was impossible to stay in. Its ok for a cheap coach holiday, but not somewhere I would stay on an individual basis.

Room Tip: Impossible to say, pot luck really, rooms on south side have sea views.

- Ran out of most of the popular booze on the bar before the function had even started, vodka, beers & lagers.... few more probably.

- The que for the bar was about 30 people long, only 2 people serving at snails pace!! when we got to the front they wouldn't serve if you didn't have the correct change!!

- Manager was rude and extremely unhelpful! chose to just not deal with any problems and ignore everyone's complaints.

Don't even bother!!! complete and utter shambles!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
