“Very disappointing”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

Unfortunately this is the only place you can stay in Glencoe / Kings Head along the West Highland Way and it really isn't very good! Such a shame and very disappointing. Aside from the staff, who I must admit were friendly and nice enough, the hotel is really dire. It's in need of a TOTAL revamp. Everything was rather dirty: sheets and towels were brownish, windows and mirrors stained and the carpets were filthy. The walls in our room had what I presume was tea or coffee all over them. After a long walk you really want to relax in a clean, comfortable room with nice amenities but this hotel does not offer that! We did have a kettle in our room which was good, but the only place to plug it in was on the floor under the dresser?! Just madness and bad planning! The bar serving food was quite dirty and food was average. The computer and wifi didn't work which was a pain. Breakfast was quite stingy. Considering we paid £90 for a pokey double room with shared bathroom I do feel we were totally ripped off. Another thing to point out is that the shared bathroom was not cleaned in the morning before everyone woke. Considering everyone showers in the evening after their walk and then again in the morning, this should be looked into... But the hotel obviously gets away with it because as mentioned, there is no other option! I know we were in the Highlands and didn't expect a 5* luxury resort but I do feel the hotel could do a few extra little things and make a few changes to make people want to return: they should start with renovating the whole place - you can keep the charm but modernise certain elements! The view was gorgeous but aside from that, nothing was great and I don't recommend. Sorry to be writing this but something has to be done!

I have been going here with my family for many years and every time they treat us as though we are their only clients. We travel with a dog and therefore have slightly separate needs and they welcome you, even when we arrive late, and make sure they do all they can for you. The inside is a real old fashioned Scottish hotel that has a lovely homely feel and, just like any climbers hotel it has it's quirks. It may not be the poshest or most up to date place but if your friendly to them, I promise, they'll be friendly to you. If you want to really experience a Scottish evening at a hotel in the mountains then go to the climbers bar for supper, not only are there always great characters there but also it's more beautiful and nice food. Another added bonus, great location.

Room Tip: We normally go for the family room, one dog, one child and two adults but all the rooms are clean an...

Nestled into the foothills of Glencoe, this historic and picturesque hotel offers the best of everything. A remote setting, situated beside a small burn with humpback bridge, history and heritage and also superb pub-grub. Owner/operators run a great venue and are warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Don't drive by.....! On the West Highland Way.

Room Tip: Other end of the hotel from the pub if it is busy walking season

Due to it's age, this hotel is dated on the inside and could do with being painted/decorated... however, this is a historic Scottish highlands hotel which retains a lovely homely feel and a true Scottish experience. Warm fires, comfy sofas, good pub meals, friendly staff & aaaamazing views. Our room was a good size with three single beds and an ensuite. The shower wasn't great, but that would be my only small complaint about the place. You really feel like you get a taste for the highlands staying here.

Stayed here for a few nights whilst exploring parts of Scotland with family and friends. It has a wonderful remote location and is great for walking, hiking and Skiing, you can even walk to one of the ski resorts. The staff were good and our rooms were comfortable enough. No doubt, if you stay here, you will have a car, which is required if you want to dine out somewhere else other than the hotel. If you want to just get away from all the day to day hassles of life, then this is the place to go.

I stayed at the Kings House whilst walking the West Highland Way. This hotel was the hotel I was looking forward to the most due to the great reviews, the price we paid and the lovely surroundings. However i was soon to be disapointed as Kind kings house turned out the be the WORST place we stayed whilst walking and here is why.....

After walking 20 miles the first thing you want is a lovely soak in the bath! I the bath half full of water for myself and then when my partner decided to run himself a bath there was no hot water left...no worries tho there is a shower...however it didn't work! Whilst in the bath I could hear the splashing of water and talking from the bath in the room next to us. To add to this the cold water tap in the sink also did not work and had to brush our teeth in the bath. The never ending water issue we so bad it was becoming very funny. When we went to dinner we mentioned to the guys behind the bar about the issues to which they had no solutions! Upon check out the next morning the receptionist said they would offer a discount of £10 so we would be paying for a room without an ensuit.....why didn't they tell us at the bar there were other washing facilities...my poor partner hadn't showered/bathed after a 20 mile walk!!!! Needless to say I was not imressed and payed in total £60 for the room which was more expensive than some of the nicer places we stayed along the way!

The decoration in the rooms and throughout the whole place were very dated for £100 and parts of the rooms hadn't even been cleaned and dust and cobwebs were evident. I know this place is ful of history however the owners are not doing justice for this amazing place and arejust away with charging high prices becuase they are the only hotel in that location.

We decided to eat in the back bar restraunt (very difficult to find). I can see this room with the heated seats being lovely in the winter as you come off the moutains however during the summer when the temperature were hitting high 20s sitting in the area was unbearable.

To cut a long story short.....dont get your hopes and and be prepared not to wash!

A nice and welcoming hotel, very friendly she helpful staff in all areas of hotel. Guest lounge fantastic, and the fire very welcome having been out on the moors all day! Great food. Rooms very basic and could do with an upgrade to compliment the price paid. Mostly comfortable. Good parking and amazing views out the windows. Great to meet other guests and share some stories.
