Algonquin Outfitters

Owner description: The heart and soul of Algonquin Outfitters is found at our original store in Oxtongue Lake, opened in 1961. A lot has changed since that day and a lot has not. The Oxtongue Lake base maintains the largest selection of outfitting equipment, canoes and camping supplies. Canada’s largest light weight rental canoe fleet is hosted here, along with a wide selection of kayaks and even four 26′ Voyageur canoes for group outings. With a wide range of camping and canoeing gear, bikes and accessories in the rental program, the Oxtongue Lake store is set up to outfit almost any wilderness adventure. Near by you can discover a scenic easy paddle to the base of Ragged Falls on the Oxtongue River where you can enjoy the beauty of this raging waterfall or hike the near by woods. Great day trip for groups of families. Our main outfitting base is located just outside the western entrance to Algonquin Park. The resort community of Oxtongue Lake is near the village of Dwight, about 20 minutes from Huntsville on Highway 60. Established in 1961 by Bill Swift Sr. and his family, the store is centrally located to canoe route access points both along Highway 60 and on the west side of the park. Additionally, it is the home of the Swift Canoe Company’s Algonquin Canoe Store, where a wide variety of canoe models are available for sale and test paddling.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase, Bathroom facilities, Activities for older children

Whats to say then the best canoes, the best service, the best staff. The store is great but could have more variety. Drop in the Huntsville store if you cant find it here.
After over 30 years of tripping there is no place better to start or end a trip then AO.

We showed up early on Tuesday the owner informed us the room was ready to come back in 1 hour which is fine we got there early. We came back worried about other people's reviews we read what the room looked like only to be blown away. The room was super clean and even had an hd tv. The best part for me is that there was free yes you read right FREE kayak and canoe rentals and there were so many here it was amazing to just spend the whole day in the water going along the river. I can't say enough good things about this place. Don't listen to other reviews I recommend this hotel for you if you want to visit Algonquin and don't wanna spend a fortune. The place even had BBQ's you can use to make your food too just an outstanding view from the back deck.
A++++++ would and will come back again for sure.

Thank Chris B

Chris B, you'll have to let us know what "Room" had a TV as we're an outfitter... could it be you were staying at the Algonquin Inn across the bridge, or maybe the Blue Spruce across the road? I'd think you for your 5 star review, both places are nice, but I'm pretty sure you have the wrong location. ~ Randy

This was the first time canoeing for the two of us and it didn't disapoint!

Jake was our guide for the day trip. He was very friendly and knew that we were not trained canoërs. He even prepared the trip the day ahead.

When we arrived, he gave us an explanation about the tour and asked us about our interests and what we expect. Then he took our lunch and some snacks in the backpack and we were ready to go.

The tour was very pleasant. We were lucky with the weather: sunny and almost no wind. We saw two falls, very nice views, took our lunch in the canoe in the sun, maked some jokes with Jake,...

Unfortunately we didn't see any wildlife, but you must have some luck for that.

I would definetly recommend algonquin outfitters!

How did I miss this review? Virginie, so sorry for not replying to your great review from Sept 2015. Fall is just around the corner once again and I think it's time for you to come back to Algonquin Park if you haven't been back since 2015!

Thank you for your 5 Star review from way back in 2015. Hope to see you again soon. ~ Randy M

We booked the trip as part of our honeymoon, not realising this was a busy holiday weekend in Canada. Algonquin Outfitters planned everything for us; route, food, equipment, guide and permit. We are experienced canoe campers in the UK but had never been to Canada before this, we were very glad we went with AO. We even got a stunning new carbon fibre boat which made the portages so much easier! This would be brilliant for families.
