We visited during the "off season" and didn't realize just how "off" it is! There was nobody else staying at Hollywood Beach Suites. We hardly ever saw anyone else on the beach - at any time day or night. And the beach is GORGEOUS. It's maybe 10 footsteps from your porch door to the sand. There's so many great places to choose from to sit - on the screened porch, in the shade or sun in the little yard area, in chairs, chaise loungers or hammocks. Or sit on the steps leading down to the beach, or on the beach. The little suite is perhaps a bit threadbare but it was very clean and very well equipped. Includes a washer and dryer and even laundry detergent. Kitchen had dish soap, salt and pepper, cooking spray, papertowels, etc etc - much better equipped than your typical beach house. The beach is all soft sand, you don't need shoes. And it's so close to your suite that you don't need a towel or a bottle of water even, you'll just pop back inside if you need anything. Free wifi was very reliable but too slow for us to stream music or video. A movie download took about 10 hours. The selection of provided DVD movies was remarkably good and well rounded. We watched two or three.

The beach faces nearly due north, so sunrise and sunset watching was a bit incumbered by the island landscape. It also gets surf and wind from any storm happening out on the Atlantic. The big waves break out on the reef though. Another cool thing about this beach is that it is partially shaded all day by the tree line. So you can walk or sit in sun or shade.

If you already know you want to go to North or Middle Caicos you can read no further - stay here, it is really just the perfect place. If you are still researching the destination I suggest you give it some reading and careful consideration. The dining out options are extremely limited, especially in the off season. Food is very expensive. Water is not potable. We packed in all our own meals and brought a water filtration system. You can rent a car (cheap!) and enjoy some sight seeing on the two islands but beware that all of the sights are a bit "overadvertised". There are lots of abandoned cars, signs of infrastructure failure, abandoned houses and abandoned partially completed hotels. There are many skinny dogs. This is a vacation for primarily beach walking, ocean swimming, sunbathing, perhaps snorkeling, diving and fishing. It is NOT a vacation for eating out, being pampered or sight-seeing.

There are 4 suites. All have screened in porches which are TIGHT!! No mosquitos!! :-)
Very clean place, comfy king size bed. WIFI which worked all the time!
Alveda Gardiner, the manager is great. She takes care of everything needed ASAP. We locked ourselves out the first nite. (Typical) but we called Alveda and she came over ASAP to fix our problem. :-), and I needed some itch cream...(ran into no-see-ums w/out spray on me....DUMB) so she brought it over ASAP vs. me having to go to the store. Great service. Her son helps her and he is very thorough and good!! Lots of chaises and chairs, BBQ as well. Kayaks are available, but it was too windy for our taste to take out.
One thing I need to mention is that the kitchen is very small....but it has the utensils needed.
The bikes in our unit needs help. Brakes are squeekie and not that good, and no helmets...but we did use them alot anyway. Hardly any traffic there....:-)
The beach is 30 feet from the front porch and the deck is great. 7 miles of beach around...awesome turquoise waters, breeze is nice.

The store is about 1/3 mile down on the left, and the liquor store (JOSH is the owner) is 1/4 mile on the right. JOSH is a great guy to blab to. He's done it all!

Beach walk to the Barracuda bar 100 feet on the right. Clifford runs it and the Mojitos and beers hit the spot.
They also serve dinner and lunch from the shack. Mostly fish dishes, of course.
It's the happening place there...and on Fridays they have music, Lovey Forbes, who's a neighbor, he travels through the islands and plays. FUN island tunes and a great guy! Unfortunately we missed this...came and went on a Friday...too bad!
Hit the Silver Palm restaurant. 20 min beach walk to the left. Great food and pricy. Reservations needed for dinner.
Hit 3 Mary's Cays, beautiful place, supposed to be some snorkeling but we didn't do it, as it was "weather" at the time.
Rent a car to go to Middle Caicos. Beautiful beaches and visit Daniel's cafe for lunch. We had a long conversation with Daniel and he's a great man.
See the cause way destruction by the hurricane in 2008 when going to Middle Caicos. It's a sight to be seen.
Hit the Bambarra beach and the tiki huts, walk to the cay. You can walk at low tide if you walk on the eastern side...beautiful spot!!
Then take Lorimer's raod and go over the causeway to Haulover Point and take a left in the fork...the beaches you hit there are great...and noone at them....and the little pond is sweet.
We didn't make it to Wild cow run...but I'm sure that is a treat as well...TOO hot that day...and we were there on the hottest time of the day.

Oh, as for the store, we heard they save the best stuff for the locals, so ask if they may have what you want
" in the back". We heard this from a "now local" ex-pat....

We loved this beautiful place of solitude....no crowds, no loudmouths....just beauty and relaxation.
IF you require "something exciting to do all the time or ANY time" this is NOT the place for you...go to Provo.
BTW...There are lots of RE opportunities...

Enjoy it....we still have our pix....:-)

Room Tip: If you like more windows, pick the end units....or want to be away from the parking (which is quiet...

My wife and I just stayed three nights at Hollywood beach Suites. After having nothing but trouble with cancelled flights and re-routing,it was nice to get there.Alaveda picked us up at the ferry dock on North Caicos and was very helpful. She took us to KJ's grocery to pick up some essentials before going to the Beach Suites. This is by no means a large grocery store. The suites themselves were very clean and nicely sized. We didn't spend much time in them anyway. We had to wait until morning to see the ocean because it was dark by the time we got there. The next morning we walked the beach for a few hours. This was incredible.I did notice a few posters tacked to trees warning about the wild dogs.Which turned out to be not a problem at all.If you go,walk out to the right(East)on the beach to St. Charles place. It will take some time to get there. Its a developement that had been abandoned after only one until was built. It was like being in a "Twilight Zone" eposode. No sound. No people.Kinda neat though. The last day there was very windy and we had to take the Southern route on the ferry. That could have been one of the highlights.Very cool colors in the ocean and alot to see.The South route only runs in very choppy seas.If your looking for five star service and top of the line restaurants,North Caicos is not for you. This truely is peace and solitude. We did not encounter another person on the beach the last two days we were there.I would definately go back to Hollywood Beach Suite.Next time we will get out and explore the island more.

I was so pleased with our stay at Hollywood, that I devoted a Blog Post regarding our visit (complete with pictures) please take the time to read my review:

http://diaryofdomesticfailure.blogspot.com/2011/08/wilson.html

Please keep in mind that North Caicos is a place you go to enjoy solitude and nature. This is not a resort island. Hollywood Beach Suites is a lovely property on a wonderful beach. The owners are so kind and have thought of virtually everything to make your stay comfortable. However, if you are wanting be catered to or are seeking five star dining and spas - this is not the location for you. This is a place you visit when you want pristine untouched beaches and spectacular snorkeling. You will most likely cook for yourself, and also mix your own drinks, but what you get in return is a unique vacation that most people dream about. This is the closest you can get to a private island without the private island price. We were truly happy with our vacation and we WILL go back!

This was truly the most magical getaway if you are more of a "do it yourselfer" and like to be away from crowds and resorts. We have stayed on Providenciales and we are now hooked on getting to the other islands. You have the beach pretty much to yourself and the Hollywood Suites are provisioned perfectly-snorkel, kayak, bicycles for outdoor activities, and the kitchen/cooking equipment is awesome-and so is the outdoor grill with a view....and the screened porch is the best idea to maximize your outdoor experience since there are mosquitos occasionally. Alveda is the best-she takes care of you if you need-she will cook amazing dinners, bring fish, or just leave you alone so that you can relax. We feel the price is a great deal-right on the beach, and did not see anything like this that was well cared for, etc. while on North Caicos.

There are mosquitos and no-see-ums, but only at certain parts of the day. The suites are next to each other, so that only a screen separates you from each of the units when sitting in your enclosed patio.

We brought bottles of wine and a bottle of rum in our suitcases, olive oil, seasoning salt, coffee, and a plastic lemon of lemon juice. We stopped at IGA before the ferry and stocked up on everything else-it's worth it to menu plan a little. Alveda brought us fish and we even made our own fresh conch fritters, fresh from the front yard (ocean!).

This is definitely not for everyone-most of our friends prefer a more "resort" experience, but this was our favorite vacation getaway ever-and we have traveled to many tropical places in the Caribbean and Central America. We spent 3 years on a sailboat sailing from San Diego to Florida through the Panama Canal-so we do like things adventurous-but with the comforts of home.

Christine & I had the pleasure of visiting the absolutely gorgeous island of North Caicos this past February. Having chosen the Hollywood Beach Suites for the week from our on line research and Trip Advisor reviews. After arriving on the ferry (very cool trip on its own), we were met by Charlton, a friendly, knowledgeable representative who drove us to the hotel. Calling it a hotel isn't accurate as it is 4 attached cottages. Period. And that's a good thing.

As there is very little in the way of large grocery stores on North Caicos, you can arrange to have the taxi that takes you from the airport to the ferry docks to stop at the IGA (yes, an IGA) to stock up on what you will want to eat during your stay. I think you can also contact the resort in advance and they will arrange to have your kitchen cupboards and fridge stocked with your choice of foods., etc. I am not 100% sure of this so check with them first.

We were more than pleasantly surprised with the size of the suite. Large rooms, seperate bedroom, screened porch and attractive comfortable furniture. A fully equipped kitchen. Bathroom with shower. It had it all.

Now for the beach. Wow! What a beach. 7 gorgreous miles of sand. Steps from your front door. You like privacy? This beach is for you? You like to lay on a lounge chair with 400 other hotel guests and be served fancy overpriced drinks with umbrellas in them? If so, this ain't the place for you. You can cover the whole 7 miles of the beach and myabe run into a few people in a day. Really.

Special mention goes out to Jane in their reservation department. Having exchanged a few emails and phone calls with her, we were very impressed with her level of professionalism and super friendly demeanour.

Also a shout out to the lovely and talented Alveda, their on site rep who will move mountains to see that your stay is just perfect. Thanks for everything.

Hi Jane. We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation on North Caicos and we miss our island life. Alveda took care of us in every way and she made our trip so memorable. We can't thank her enough for her delicious food and her loving attention. We enjoyed our accommodations, our kayaks, our hammocks, our bikes and our beautiful private beach. Everything was just as promised, if not better, and the daily snorkeling was so much fun.
The kitchen was well-stocked with all dishes, pots and wineglasses. We only used the washer/dryer once but found them to be so convenient. The internet service was an extra bonus as we had no idea we'd be able to check in with our children so easily on our very remote island. We enjoyed all our meals on our screened front porch with our gorgeous view of the Caribbean. Alveda lined up our scuba diving trip and Dedrick was a fabulous guide. He even gave us a driving tour of the island after our dives. Thank you for our romantic getaway.
