My wife and I just returned from Parrot Cay and our overall experience definitely met our expectations on most fronts. When we arrived at the airport we were met by Parrot Cay personnel but had to wait for other guests to get through customs, gather luggage etc. Not a huge deal but some folks may want/prefer private transfers. We were shuttled by van to a marina (about 10 minute drive) where we were given refreshments while our luggage was loaded onto a boat. The first thing I noticed was the amount of small children. There were about 5 in the van with us and many more once we arrived at the resort. Apparently this time of year (Feb) is heavy on family travel and the resort is very kid friendly. Some folks may want to take this into consideration as the pool area did get noisy at times.

We saw a few different types of rooms. The garden room was spacious with a nice bathroom, banquette, and a balcony/porch with a daybed. The beach villas and beach houses are great - right on the beach with vaulted ceilings, kitchens and plunge pools with outdoor shower. The beach villas are a bit more private than the beach houses as the latter rom type have two connected together and maybe best suited for a family. All rooms had a nicely stocked mini bar and fresh fruit replenished daily and free WiFi. There are about 60 rooms in total so it never feels crowded since its pretty spread out.

The pool area is very spacious and outside of the many small kids playing from time to time, it was a great place to relax. The pool is infinity style and huge. There is also the option to lie on the beach with chairs going all along the front so you are never that close to any other person. There was never a need for us to wake up early to "save" seats which was a relief.

The Como Shambala Spa definitely makes this place. It is amazing. The resort also offers complementary yoga and pilates in morning and evening which was a great treat as the instructors are phenomenal. The spa has great services and incredible masseuses (try the Thai massage!). Plus you can use the spa's other facilities (steam room. etc) free of charge on any day during your stay. There is also a great gym open all the time with good equipment. I would go back to Parrot Cay for the spa alone.

The one gripe I have that has been mentioned in other posts is the food. There are two restaurant choices - Terrace and Lotus. Living in NYC we see some pretty expensive prices but entrees at Parrot Cay (either restaurant) run about $42 and appetizers are about $22-$26. I would be ok with the prices in exchange for flawlessly executed food and impeccable service. While the service was friendly, it was a little inconsistent with timing and always in a rush to clear plates. One case, I hadn't yet received my entree yet and my wife was asked if she was finished. Bruce Willis and his wife dined at the table next to us one evening and most of the staff were busy fussing over his needs that we didn't get any service for about 15 minutes. With the exception of one nice dinner at Terrace, the food was just OK - nothing memorable. For two people, without drinks, dinners will run about $150-$200. Lunch about $80 (lunch items are around $20-$30 each). There is an 11% tax and 10% service charge added to all bills with a line for "additional tip". Drinks are equally as expensive with cocktails running at $16 each. You are better off with a bottle of wine. Breakfast was included and probably the best tasting meal of the day. Great selection of cooked items and a nice spread of fruit, breads, etc. Room service is also available which we found to be great since you had a much wider selection of items to choose from. There is also a good spa menu available in room and at all restaurants offering healthier options.

Food issues aside, the overall experience is a very special one. Yes it is expensive but if money isn't a big deal, then Parrot Cay is worth every penny. Its separation from the mainland may be a negative for some but it feels like you are on your own island moving around as you wish, at your own pace, etc. You can walk along stretches of beach that feel very untouched with the most amazing blue water. It is the only resort on the entire island so you have the utmost privacy in most areas. No cars as everything is walkable or reachable by golf cart. If the level of food rose to the level of everything else, this place would be tough to beat, especially in this region.

We just returned from a 5 day pre holiday stay at Parrot Cay. Transfer from airport was excellent. Check in was quick. Room was dissappointing. We paid aprox $700/nite for first 4 nights and $1300 for last night. Bathroom is old and there is room for only one in shower and tub so not for honeymooners or couples that like to bathe together! Fixtures in bathroom poconos-like. Pine mirror on wall. Room in need of remodeling but could be worse. We were staying in garden view room. We asked for ocean facing room and changed our minds when we saw that ocean facing meant exactly that...facing the ocean. You could not see the ocean from the ocean facing rooms as trees were planted many years ago and had grown to obstruct the view. Hotel staff told us they opted to leave the trees untrimmed and change the name of ocean view to ocean facing. Only "rooms" on beach were villas that were thousand of dollars per night. Staff was so friendly and pleasant. Continental bkfst and food was unbelieveable but pricey. Spa is very expensive but beautiful. You could use the hot tub for free. Beach is gorgeous with a good 1+ mile stretch to walk . While at Parrot Cay, several celebrities and many Hollywood types arrived for Xmas vacay. We are extensive travellers. Aside from dissappointing rooms and prices, we loved PC and would return.
Carlisle Bay(Antigua) has best rooms and decore, Cap Jaluca(Anguilla) has best restaurant atmosphere and all rooms are on the beach for slightly cheaper price, but PC has best food and friendliest staff. Boutique is not practical. My husband forgot a baseball cap and there were none to be found in gift shop. No magazines, newspapers or books. Fitness room is adequate...one pet peeve, all cardio machines are facing a large mirror. Never seen this before. Best to turn the machines toward the outside or the wall with TV's to watch.
It was nice to take the boat to the remote island and not have to view poverty and garbage which you experience in these other places. If you are planning a trip to PC, forget about the budget and do not have high expectations for a cool hip newish updated room with an ocean view and you will not be dissappointed.

Very over priced food and drinks, we spent $500 per day on meals and drinks! Iced tea was $4.00 with no refills so every time they filled my glass, $4.00 more. Had to switch rooms because of mildew and the air conditioner did not work well in the second room. Beach is great and the spa was wonderful. Not going back unless I hear it was remodeled and new owners took over.

The setting was spectacular - a gorgeous beach with endless turquoise water and a large, serene infinity pool at the edge of the beach... The spa was incredible - highly qualified professionals in a tranquil, beautiful setting...The food divine - delicious breakfast menu and superb lunch and dinner menus...The service impeccable - each staff member was unusually polite, helpful, and friendly. It is a perfect vacation if you are seeking a getaway to rejuvenate and relax!

So far this one tops my list of favorite island getaways. If you don't mind doing nothing but relaxing on a beautiful beach, heading to a top notch spa, or getting back in touch with your inner self, this place is for you. We stayed in one of the beach front villa's, and I think that was a key feature of our pleasant stay. Our sliders opened to a private little pool and the beach. Had we stayed in the main building, I think our stay would have had a different feel.

The resort is focused around health and spa, so you really have to enjoy that type of getaway. Food is ok...nothing fancy which was fine with me. Don't expect fine dining with an extensive wine list. Again...health and spa related. However the best burger I ever had was here....go figure!

Expensive but worth it

For a very, very pricey hotel my spouse and I expected better service. I will say that the staff is very nice but since many of them do not speak English very well our food orders were consistently incorrect. Food at Parrot Cay was pretty good but too expensive. For example I ordered the hamburger which was $28 and I’m positive the meat was frozen and not at all fresh. Dealing with the front desk / activities planner was nightmarish. One hour we were confirmed for a day trip and the next hour we would get phone calls saying were are unable to go. There was a huge lack of communication between parties. Also I should mention we stayed in a beach villa, which for $2,000/night it was pretty run down. Large gaps between the floor and doors which allowed bugs and even a huge cockroach to get in our room.

Bottom line: avoid this place, stay on the main island and if you do decide to venture here, bring a high concentrated lotion with DEET, the bugs/sand flies are really bad.
