Sallie & David have a lovely place in Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula, recommended to us by Trailfinders, who helped plan the holiday. Definitely the best breakfast of anywhere we stayed, although it wasn't yet holiday season, so it was just the three of us staying, so a breakfast cooked to order rather than the buffet breakfasts we had to put up with in other places.
Unfortunately, as it wasn't holiday season, a number of places in town were closed, so when we went in for an evening meal, the number of choices were limited, but this wasn't something under the control of the owners.
It is an expensive place, nice of an occasional night or two, but not somewhere you could stay for too long unless you have a lot of money. But you get what you pay for, and sometimes you need to pay for exceptional quality and service.

Couldn't have received a warmer welcome when we arrived here. Our room was immaculate, beautifully decorated with everything you could possibly need as well as lovely, thoughtful touches such as cheese, crackers and chocolates for our arrival. Situated slightly uphill, there were gorgeous views of the bay from our room. There was a large choice for breakfast and was probably the best I had whilst in NZ. Would love to return for a longer stay next time.

This place is very special. The hosts are incredible and share their property with grace and warmth. The decor is fresh and comfortable with some very thoughtful touches (cookies and truffles!). Breakfast was of a very high standard with lots of choices available. We strongly recommend a stay here and if we are ever back in town this will be where we will stay.

We were fortunate enough to spend 3 nights here in late February 2013. Rooms are lovely, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The gardens are gorgeous, full of flowers and birds, and the views of the bay are outstanding. Excellent breakfast served outside, making the most of those views. It was great to share good conversation over a glass of beer/wine from Dave's bar in the evening. Sallie and Dave had good suggestions for trips and restaurants which were spot on. The local beach is a delight and we spent a happy hour or so watching the evening surfers.

Is set in lovely gardens with a view of the Pacific. Breakfast in January was outside and excellent. The hostess was kind and attentive, and the rooms gorgous. Clean and spacious. Only 10 minutes from the beach and forest walks.

Room Tip: You have to climb stairs to your room, so be carefull, but it is a lovely place.

From the moment we arrived as weary travellers we were treated with warmth and friendliness. Hosts Sallie and David have achieved the perfect balance with accommodation which is clean, stylish and comfortable and food that is second to none. Breakfast on the verandah was bliss, whilst dinner in the evening was sublime. Sallie and David have thought of everything to make sure a stay, no matter how short, is memorable. We will definitely return if we are fortunate enough to visit New Zealand again.
