“Great Place, Great Food, Fun Hosts”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

We stayed here for 4 nights in early March 2014. The location, with superb views over the sea is perfect, the grounds are beautifully laid out and the outdoor pool is excellent for people like me who want one big enough to swim in but not too large or deep. Our rom was in a separate building and so was very quiet and private, with a little balcony to sit and enjoy a drink while taking in the view. We had 3 dinners there and the food was excellent. dave and Sallie are great hosts and we would certainly go back again.

Brenton Lodge is a delight, a little way out of town but in a fantastic location in a beautifully landscaped garden. The hosts Dave & Sallie are wonderfully welcoming and made us feel instantly at home and relaxed, our room was all we could hope for, spacious, comfortable, well equipped and with superb views over the sea and islands in the distance from the veranda immediately outside, especially in the evening with a glass of wine in your hand. And there were some great little touches as well, home made chocolates, a bottle of complimentary wine and a platter of some very nice things to eat. The breakfasts were superb, and neither of us wanted to eat again until supper time. One of the very best places we stayed in a long tour of New Zealand, and thoroughly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay here. After a hectic run of "lively" evenings this was an oasis of calm. It's a little way out of town but a good base for touring the Coromandel and anyway Whangamata doesn't have much to offer in the evenings. We were welcomed with a smile by Dave and shown to our room with its own balcony and a view right across to the sea. The excellent facilities are well documented in other reviews and we agree. The breakfasts are fantastic with a good choice of hot and cold. Over breakfast Sallie helps you plan your day. They've just got it right.
One point - try to book direct if you can. We booked through Trailfinders and paid more for B&B than the direct rate for a special deal including a dinner. And try to get to the Mussel Kitchen in Coromandel for lunch if you like mussels - special!

Thank you for your review of Brenton Lodge, always good to hear how your stay was for you, we are well placed for guests exploring the Coromandel Peninsula, and as you say if you are a seafood lover, the Mussel Kitchen is well worth a visit, and I have had really good feedback this year for Argo Restaurant in Whangamata and also Nero's in Whangamata, also a short drive to the Boatshed at Onemana

We stayed in February during a four week tour of NZ.
The room offered was amongst the nicest we've experienced with a complimentary bottle of wine and a cheese and biscuits platter on arrival - a nice touch!
Our room had a beautiful view over the nearby town and beyond.
The hosts have perfected the art of being friendly without being obtrusive.
We didn't eat in the evening as Wednesday is their "day off" but we had a superb breakfast of Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and, of course, juice, toast and tea/coffee.
Thoroughly recommended!

The welcome we received was both personalised, thoughtful and everything you could hope for - Sallie and Dave were first class hosts. The rooms were roomy, beautifully furnished with a flair for interior design, spotlessly clean, with nice toiletries and amenities. Fantastic setting and a real luxury feel to the way the cottages are set out in the lovely grounds - could even be a lovely hideaway retreat for honeymooners. Great quality food, again with a very stylish and personalised menu system. One issue resulted in the 'almost' perfect rating - the rooms we were allocated suffered quite badly from cooking smells from the main house underneath (this would only apply to 'our' rooms, not the rest of the accommodation) - if this is sorted we couldn't fail to give Brenton Lodge our very highest personal recommendation.

The Lodge is made up of several buildings spread around a super garden with views across the bay. The decor and furnishings are to a high standard and the couple that run it are very pleasant and attentive. The food was good and we also enjoyed a drink with them at the little pool side bar. Great food loved the bread. Highly recommended.

The town was totally swamped by 70,000 tourists because of the classic car rally. Brenton Lodge was an oasis of calm. Welcomed by hosts Kiwi Dave and Sallie from Wales. Lovely setting, well kept gardens and pool, lovely room with all the amenities you need.
Met up with a couple we had bumped into before in Nelson. Had good fun together over dinner in town at Argo.
We stayed for 3 nights to explore the Coromandel - Brenton Lodge was a perfect location and we really enjoyed our time with our hosts.

Time sure flies by, almost a year since your stay here, thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay with us, Beach Hop is an extremely busy time in Whangamata, but fortunately as we are situated overlooking town, it can be avoided, if it doesn't appeal.
