This was a much enjoyable evening shared with friends. We stopped into this restaurant for a meal not realising how busy they would be. They explained that there would be a little wait for a table if we were happy with that. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating. They have a great wine list (including our very own favourite from Waiheke, Man O' War Syrah) so we were pleased. My wife had Hapuka, which she loved and I had a Venison special which was so lovely and tender. A really nice place to come and even on par with restaurant's we dine at on a regular basis.

We were looking for a restaurant so we could take our elderly in-laws to. They were going to pay.
Wasn't sure about this place and wasn't even sure it was going to be open, so we rang through mid afternoon and made a reservation for that evening. It was such a great evening weather wise, so we sat in the outside area are under the big umbrellas. The waiting staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was delicious. They even specially cooked some of the vegetables for our elderly relatives and changed a few things around on the menu to suit them. This restaurant/wine bar also has a great wine list. I can't wait to go back again, even if it is my turn to pay. The fun thing that happened was the two guys that arrived on electric motorised skate boards and parked them on the grass verge right beside where we were sitting and came into the restaurant in their beach gear. Dress up or go super casual, it's Whangamata and I think this is the best restaurant at this wonderful NZ beach location.

Visited Whanga for the weekend and walked past this place on our way to the beach.... Its not in town, so we are sooo excited to have found it. It was really busy on arrival, a little noisy if I had to complain but better than having no atmosphere I guess. We had a group of 5 and everyone raved about their dishes. We all shared some "bloody mary oyster shots" which disappeared too quickly. And my partner said his beef was the best he'd ever had. The service was friendly, and our waitress recommended some great walking tracks for us the next day. Really cool evening had by all.

The food here was spot on, just as good as a quality Auckland restaurant, so much to recommend there.

The service was polite and friendly, although we would have appreciated being asked on arrival if we preferred one of the empty tables in the main room rather than one in the bar area (we had a reservation). We are not the type to demand to go other than where we're shown, and we expect many other people are the same.

The service was great, albeit a little confusing. We had a lovely young lady take our orders and had a young man bring the drinks. Of course not unusual to have a separate wine waiter. But the same young man then delivered our main course while the young lady was taking drinks and food to other tables. She then came back to us with our desserts! Not a great problem for us as the service from both was good, but worth mentioning as we would have appreciated singular service - establishing a rapport with the staff is always part of the dining experience and it is more difficult to do that when you don't know who you're going to see next.
