“Lovely welcome and views”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

Margaret and Graham were fantastic friendly hosts and the views from their home were fantastic. The caves nearby are well worth a visit. On the down side, the B & B is close to farmland so it had a few flies in the house. I don't mean to be unkind but the food and drinks were the economy brands but the welcoming atmosphere made up for it.

We only had one night at Simply the Best, but were made to feel so welcome we really would have liked to have stayed longer. The location is beautiful, close enough to the caves, but very quiet and peaceful. Margaret and Graham are wonderful hosts - as other reviewers have said, it was almost like visiting family (the good kind)! We even came away with some of Margaret's recipes. We also got some excellent advice on things to do in the area (apart from the caves). Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights at Margaret's and Graham's country B&B outside Te Kuiti, a short drive from the Waitomo caves. They couldn't have been any more welcoming or helpful, they were wonderful!
Rooms have their own ensuite and balcony view. Comfortable beds, very clean and beautiful view. There is the main lounge room of the house and then a guest living room both with open fires. The house cats are very sweet but well behaved and know not to go in guest rooms.

Delicious simple breakfast provided by Margaret- her stewed fruit really is great. Both hosts were very friendly and interact with the guests but also gave us privacy. They shared their local knowledge, recommending restaurants, activities and bush walks.

Lovely stay, highly recommended.

It is indeed a pleasure to recommend this B&B. We stayed only one night but upon leaving it felt like we had stayed with family. (The good kind) The rhubarb sauce Margaret served in the morning was to die for! (Sorry Margaret, I ate it all!) I'm still dreaming about it. Graham was kind enough to take me around the farm to take whatever crazy pictures I was looking for and they couldn't have been any nicer. The views are stunning, bed comfy, food fantastic, but their company was the best. Go! Book it! You won't be sorry. :-)

We were very impressed with our stay here, very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts, great conversation and a beautiful location. We stayed in a private en-suite bedroom with a slider to the deck overlooking the valley below. A really great value just 15 min away from Waitomo Caves!

We stayed here during our last night of our NZ honeymoon trip and it was a perfect place to stay! We didn’t have reservations but were immediately welcomed when we showed up. The property is absolutely beautiful with stunning views from the house. Both owners were the nicest people we encountered. They gave us great recommendations about where to eat and which cave tour to go on (they were friendly with the man that ran the cave tours and called him up to make our reservations and get us the time we wanted). In the evening, we all watched TV together and then the All Blacks-Australia game. They were very kind to explain parts we didn’t understand. Breakfast was delicious. I wish we had booked a later cave tour time because I really enjoyed our talk with them. By the time we left I truly felt I was part of their family. Amazing stay…thank you!

We stayed one night as we continued our trip to Rotorua and then to Napier. We received the room overlooking the whole broad valley and enjoyed the stunning view (which a glass wind/weather shield) on the big porch. One of the two cats was already expecting us :-). The cats are well-behaved as they did not enter the guests room.

Our rooms was clean, quite big and even offerd a small couch! The bathroom was rather small and we received only two bath towels (in other B&B we used to receive two big and two medium size ones). But upon request we were given two additional towels for our Waitomo Blackwater Rafting trip. There was no shower gel nor shampoo provided but honestly I have never expected it at a B&B and therefore it did not matter to us at all.

Our hosts were very nice and familial. Margaret even came out of her house to the car parking to welcome us there and stayed up at night together with her husband and joined the conversation with the other guests.

In the living and kitchen area, even in the corridor, hey have very comfortable linoleum "wooden" floor (I like it as it I consider this as more hygienic) and in the sleeping rooms carpets.

From the Waitomo Caves it is a 15 minutes drive. As one is doing anyhow several trips in the region I consider this place up the hill and for the price very much worthwhile and would definitely go back again.
