“grand and yet modest”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

Is this possible? yes at Omori Lake house they do this magic trick.
I fully agree with previous reviews : it is grand.
We stayed here for 3 nights on our first visit to NZ.
It was such a great vacation we consider to return, but are thinking of keeping to south island. But ..then we cannot stay at Omori Lake house. Yes it was that good that we seriously think of adding north island just to return there. Do not hesitate : go, but please not when we are planning to go !

We spent 3 nights at the Omori Lakehouse during our 2 week stay in New Zealand. It was the best accommodation we stayed at - not only for the spotless room with beautiful views over the lake but for the kind hospitality extended by Raewyn and Neil. The homecooked food was wonderful and Raewyn and Neil were so friendly and kind - we learnt lots about NZ from them and were sad to leave. The location is great too - in a quiet, secluded area but close enough to all that's going on around Lake Taupo if you're going out and about.

We stayed 2 nights with Raewyn and Neil in their beautiful home overlooking Lake Taupo. They were the perfect hosts and made us feel like family. On arrival we sat out on the terrace with glasses of wine taking in the panoramic views. We'd pre booked evening meal and were so glad we did as the food was excellent and it was lovely to sit down to a meal with Raewyn and Neil and to learn a little about their lives. We had a lovely spacious ensuite room with a superb view over the landscaped gardens and over to Lake Taupo. Breakfast was a superb selection of fresh fruit, cereals and preserves followed by a cooked selection to suit all tastes and appetites. The B&B is in a lovely quiet location but has good access to the Tongariro National Park. We could have stayed longer and hope to return again in the future.
Thanks Raewyn and Neil for a memorable stay.

We booked to stay one night with Raewyn and Neil Groombridge as we were travelling through their area to New Plymouth. After our one night stay, we wished we had allotted more time to visit their area and to enjoy their hospitality. Although we had not arranged ahead for dinner at the B&B, Raewyn offered on short notice to prepare us a meal. We ended up combining what food we had with Raewyn's and enjoyed a delicious potluck supper together. Both bedrooms are absolutely lovely with incredible views out to Lake Taupo and down to the small village of Omori. The shower was the best shower we have had to date in New Zealand. In the morning, Raewyn prepared a delicious cooked breakfast. We highly recommend Omori Lake House to anyone wishing to complete the Tongariro Crossing or visit the Turangi area.

Room Tip: Both rooms are virtually identical except one ensuite has a large shower and the other room has a ba...

Large, modern room. Good shower. Beautiful views. We stayed for 4 nights with Neil and Raywyn, hoping to do the Tongariro Crossing from this base. Neil produced a daily weather report and booked our transport to/from Tongariro national park. Raywyn cooked breakfast at 6am before we set off. They do this because they feel you need it for your trip. Upon our return at 5pm, we were served with drinks out on the terrace.
Most days the hosts serve a drink at 6.30pm which is a nice way to meet other travellers. We had dinner at Omori as well, very nice roast chicken dinner. Raywyn is an excellent cook.
Great location to explore Taupo and Rotorua as well, if you don't mind the drive. Also just down the road are some hot pools. A perfect stay.

The Omori Lake House was so luxurious - the hosts greeted us with open arms upon our arrival and offered us some wine and beer and a plate of cheeses, salami and oysters - yum! We chatted with them for at least 2 hrs... very interesting ppl and their living room overlooks Lake Taupo.

The home and the rooms are very elegant, a dream cottage in the country. Our room had floor to ceiling windows overlooking Lake Taupo and the mini room fridge even included some nice NZ beers... nice touch.

The breakfast was great, a hot homecooked meal - eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, juice...

This B&B is out in the country, very secluded though, so something to keep in mind if staying for a few days.

My husband and I stayed here just one night as we toured around the north island. The position of the B&B is beautiful with delightful views across the lake and the room is lovely with a very comfortable bed. The hosts, Neil and Raywyn really make your stay special and you truly feel very much at home. We would definitely recommend this B&B.
