“Bring your children to try out trout fishing”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Children can try out trout fishing, and see trout at all stages of life. See the huge rainbow trout living naturally in a stream. There are large tanks with different sized trout being bred to release into local rivers as well as interesting descriptors and displays about the history of trout fishing in the area. See who the celebrities are who have fished in the area.

“Good for a couple of hours if you are passing”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Nice location just of the main Wellington highway (SH1) in an ideal location next to an impressive river, this is a must for any anglers but equally is very interesting to those who are not. Arrived near closing time but still managed to see the many stages of the trout cycle. The size of the fully grown fish were awesome more like salmon than trout. Small exhibitions are informative and well put together.
Do take the riverside walk it brings it all together.

“Nice park, ideal location”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Really interesting to see the fishing history and strong culture in NZ. Great fun feeding the trout. An addition on a café could be a great initiative for the centre to keep people there longer. Will be great for families.

“Amazing location”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

This alpine walk was definitely worth doing and the scenery was spectacular. The crowds meant that it felt more like a carnival than an alpine trek in nature. I was surprised at how ill equipped many people were without proper clothing, footwear or food. If you are thinking of doing this walk, check out the Department of Conservation website and take the right gear in case the weather turns nasty (which it often does).
