Reviewed 27 January 2013

All of the relaxing and therapeutic benefits soaked up during our evening at the thermal baths of Pre' San Didier went to waste upon our return to the hostel at midnight.

We had checked in earlier that day, gotten our keys and left all of our things in the room before heading out again. Returning on that cold December night we found the lights off and not a soul in sight. Our keys wouldn't work in any of the doors, possibly due to the freezing temperatures. We knocked, banged on the doors - nothing. We tried to call the number of the hostel - the phone was OFF. We knocked on the doors of people who lived nearby, but no one knew how to reach those who work in the hostel. It was a nightmare situation.

After 40 minutes of fruitless attempts, we got back in the car and were taken in by the wonderful Le Miramonti (the first hotel you see upon entering La Thuile). The next morning we went back to get our things and ask for a refund. The girl at the front desk looked at us if as if we were stupid. First she laughed at us, laughter then turned to anger before calling the owner who after a bit of back and forth agreed to refund us.

After some jiggling that famous key did end up working for one of the back doors that we had tried the night before, but with the cold and the nimbleness of the key, the staff should take care to explain which door the keys are meant forand get a better quality lock for that can hold its own in a cold, mountain location.
