Was very impressed with this place! Me and a friend spent one night in a tent here. We got a great site literally right on the beach front. Bathroom area was extremely clean with plenty of facilities for everyone. Although we didn't use the kitchen area it was very clean and we were surprised to find out there were fridges and a freezer free to use. BBQ facilities are available for free which was awesome! People at reception were very friendly and helpful, will definitely be staying here again next visit!

Room Tip: If you don't mind ocean noise, ask for a site on the beach front!

We had intended on staying for three nights at Castlepoint over New Year, however in a dome tent the wind had other ideas... the facilities were great and the neighbours all very lovely and helpful. We survived Dec 30th but on the 31st the wind snapped one of the tent poles and then its replacement about half an hour later. Tent got binned and we hot-footed it back home just in time to put the kettle on for New Year's Eve, then bed! Dwight's Outdoors got some of our hard-earned cash the following day and we look forward to taking that new canvas tent back there at Easter. What a gorgeous location Castlepoint is! All very clean, too, wonderful facilities and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: No fitness centre... not sure why that's in there.

Our family stayed at Castlepoint Holiday Park over the Christmas period and have to say the staff where some of the friendliest people we have come across. Nothing was a problem and went out of there way to make us feel extremely welcome. The toilet & showers where some of the cleanest we have experienced in New Zealand. Great cooking facilities. The beaches are amazing and would recommend staying here as a must.
Thanks for making our stay such a memorable experience. We have already re-booked out site for next year and can't wait to be back.

We decided to go camping (first timers) in New Zealand. We booked over the phone and asked for a powered tent site, when we got there we were directed to a powered "camper van site" - The power adaptors we brought wouldn't work and they told us we needed a camper van adaptor. We asked them if they had any adaptors or extension cables and were told no and that we should have known what to bring along. When asked for a refund on a powered site vs non powered site, we were told to take a hike. Personally in all my travels this is probably the second worst service I have ever received and would personally recommend anyone from staying here.

In addition the place is the most expensive camper van site in all of NZ and they still make you pay 50c for 5 minutes of hot water. The BBQ's are filthy, so filthy in fact we cringed actually using them.

No at all impressed and certainly won't be back again nor recommend this place to anyone..

If fishing, wild coastal walks and relaxing is what you're after then this is the location. Castlepoint is well worth the effort. The motels however are very tired, but the basics are covered. Suggest take your own pillows if you can, theirs are flat and lifeless. Also suggest you ignore the wind on the loose roofing. Castlepoint no longer has a restaurant, with Whakataki Hotel the closest about 10 minutes drive away. Maybe a stop at a Masterton supermarket for supplies next time. All in all an okay motel in a lovely location directly opposite the beach.

We stayed here as a couple for a weekend. The view from our cabin was fantastic, as you could see the sea. However, the cabin was old and a bit shabby. During the night we heard a bit of buzzing and were confused about what it was. In the morning as we opened the curtains we found about 10 flys behind the curtains. Not what I would expect of accomodation, even if it is pretty cheap.
