“Try the sticky dat pudding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014 via mobile

We called in here on a busy lunch time ( Easter) without a booking, getting a table was no problem but we were told we could only have a platter, which was delicious, accompanied by the vineyards own glass of rose and a Chardonnay . Finished up with the best sticky date pudding we have ever had. The service was so attentive from all the waiting staff. We had my elderly mother with us and they brought her blankets and cushions as we wanted to sit outside in the sun, when it started to drizzle they asked several times if we wanted to move inside and offered to bring an extra umbrella. It is a lovely garden setting and seemed to be very child friendly with their own menu and equipment for them to play on as well as a colouring in contest and Easter egg hunt organised. Next time we will make sure we book before arriving so we can sample more if the menu.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

We had lunch here after a quick wine tasting (just reds and rose). The service was slow and off-hand. The staff spent more time loudly discussing an absent member of staff than they did dealing with the customers. The only dish our vegan daughter could order was bread and oil - not even olives available in an area prized for its olives. The share platter was very nice, but not generous for the price.

I've heard many times on Newstalk ZB the Gladstone Vineyard advertisement saying - we're worth the trip. Made a mental note to celebrate my birthday there. Well they certainly were worth the trip from Wellington. Booked for 5 but sadly 2 of our family couldn't make it. Beautifully cooked lamb rump, melt in the mouth fish and amazing sticky date pudding. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly and I look forward to our next trip over the hill.

“Pleasant place for lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

My husband and I were out biking and headed here for lunch. I phoned ahead to make sure they wouldn't mind if we turned up in lycra and they were ok about that. We were able to sit outdoors as it was sunny so that was nice. We had seafood chowder which was ok. I prefer to have some more chunks of things in my chowder. The waitress was very attentive and indeed seemed to spend most of her time standing looking into the kitchen area instead of looking out at the customers. I have some diet constraints so I was pleased to see something on the dessert menu that suited me. It wasn't available and the waiter took a bit of prompting to come up with a satisfactory alternative. But he did and it was delicioius.

“Nice Anniversary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2013

My wife and I were spending our 43rd Anniversary in NZ. Having never been there before we were at the mercy of our friends we were staying with but they were keen to take us there. It is an easy drive from Wellington over some attractive countryside which added to the day as well as quaint towns along the way. The day was wet and cool but the welcome was warm as it was inside the restaurant. Our foursome had a variety of meals but we voted the lambshanks by far the best. Wine was of a good quality from the vineyard and the Chef was of my vintage I would say and his experience came through in the meals. Totally satisfied I slept all the way back to Wellington.
When you drive past the old car covered in bugs you know you are getting close.
