We drive over to the Wairarapa every weekend to visit a relative and always notice a few people in this restaurant when driving back home early evenings.
We had occasion to try it out recently after our eye caught the blackboard sign outside advertising that Saturday nights were $10 steak nights.
The restaurant was quiet when we entered with only a very few diners seated and we were greeted very pleasantly. The interior is interesting and quirky with lot of different styled tables and mismatching chairs. The building itself is old with a wooden floor and an extremely high but interesting ceiling mainly painted in black but livened up with twinkling white led lights strung across beams. There is art hung on the walls and a large table containing plenty of magazines to read!
The menu is short but with a pleasant selection and all reasonably priced.
We just chose the $10 steak meals which arrived after a short wait. Nothing overly exciting to look at but reasonable value for $10. The meal consisted of a small tossed salad, fries and a small to medium sized steak.
The steak was very nice though the salad could have done with a little more dressing. The fries looked great but we found they were only just cooked with the odd chip bordering on being slightly raw.
Next dessert - and again a short but pleasant selection. My dessert was very tasty though the cake part of it was a little dry.
Overall though - a nice experience, friendly staff, nice atmosphere and music playing that complimented the restaurant.
Definitely somewhere to keep in mind!
