Wharekauhau is a place unlike any other. Just a 90 minute drive from Wellington, Wharekauhau is a dramatic sight as you are driving into the property. Set on over 5000 acres of private land including rivers, forests and lakes, and a woking sheep station. There are 20 private guest cottages that offer solitude and comfort in luxurious surroundings. You can do nothing or countless activities such at Horseback riding, 4WD trekking, farm tours or touring Cape Palliser.
The proprietors are Kristie and Nico whom are both lovely and make you feel so at home. The food here is incredible matched perfectly with local wines for dinner. All the staff is wonderful and your wish is their command.
We toured Cape Palliser Seal Colony and lighthouse with Dogal McKenzie. He has lived in this area his whole life and knew everything there was to know and the best places to see all the great attractions of the area. The next day we had the 4WD farm tour; it featured sheep dogs in action; sheep shearing and exploring the far reaches of Wharekauhau station. The views were incredible overlooking the pacific ocean.
At night just step outside and look up at the stars. You can see constellations that you never saw before. Spectacular!
