This was my first and last time to the Royal Decameron, I stayed July 18-the 23rd. Before traveling I read many reviews that spoke of the great food and drinks, couldn't be more wrong. The food at best, was worse than a elementary school. The only saving grace was a snack bar serving hamburgers and hotdogs. Half the time the dining hall looked like mystery cuisine, and I am not picky. The drinks were very weak, even after tipping every time I went to the bar. Hope you like Sol beer, thats the only beer served. The staff was very friendly, housekeeping amongst the best! The rooms were very cold, the bed was like sleeping on a box spring, and the pillows like rocks. Plan to have plenty of cash with you because there is not an ATM at the hotel, closest is about 10 minutes away. A trip to downtown will cost about 150 pesos, or $15.00. Lots of children at this hotel. The beach was very clean and rock free, unlike many hotels that are in the downtown area, and the water was similar to that of California. The best part of the trip was snorkeling at the Marietas Island on a boat tour. It cost $63.00 a person at the hotel, you could book it cheaper straight through Vallarta Tours. Overall, do not expect P.V. to be like the CanCun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and you will be fine. It is a very modest, and poor authentic Mexican city

The Royal Decameron was a great hotel~!!!! The staff was extremely friendly, the scorpions ( a drink that contains 4 types of alchohol, the first one immobilizes your sense of taste and the rest are like tropical punch :) were awesome, Our friend Steve is now called the Scorion King!!! About a 20 minute cab drive to Puerta Vallarta, which is 15 U.S. ( max 4 per cab). Became tiresome towards the end but was still bearable.) The Beach was pretty private compared to the ones in the city of Vallarta, Lots of people from everwhere, especially Brittain and our favorite Holland!!! We miss you Dion and Claudia, (from Heidi and Shawn, Jill and Steve, and Duncan and Pete). Email us, everyone has lost your address...

The Royal Decameron is by far one of the nicest places I have ever been to. My favourite part of the complex was the Disco. Every night I would go their with my brother and friend and we would meet so many cool people. We met people from all over the world including England, Scotland, Mexico, and all of the United States and Canada. Some of these people we became quite close with and have since become good friends while being at home. So if you are young and love to dance and meet people the Disco is the best place to be at night. Everything else about the complex is good, the restaurants are quite good, although they are sometimes repetitive in the food they serve, the bars and bartenders are great and the beach is gorgeous. A few recommendations i have is to try and speak some spanish to the waiters and bartenders and you will find that the service becomes much better, if you get to know some of the bartenders names and call them by name the respect your will recieve will only become greater. Another tip is to bring your own alarm clock. There is no clock in the rooms and with the blackout curtains, it can be hard to wake up in the morning if you look forward to any morning activities. My final tip is to leave your air conditioning on all day even when you leave, therefore when you come back to your room after a long hot day, a cold hotel room seems like paradise. Even after 2 weeks I didn't want to leave and i wish i could have stayed at the Royal Decameron for the entire summer!

We just returned from a weeks stay and were somewhat disappointed from the moment we checked in. We unfortunately encountered lost luggage, and found the staff to be of no help what-so-ever. Not even an offer for the essentials, such as toothpaste, etc. were offered to tie us over until our luggage arrived 24 hours later and numerous $3.00 calls... We did not find a lot of the smiles that others who have left comments experienced. A vast majority of the "bartenders" were totally rude and showed no personality or interest in customer service. We NEVER had a waiter / waitress come to our table or chair to get us drinks while at the pool or at the beach. The only drinks you will get is at the bar. This is not what we experienced during our last 2 trips abroad where the service was fantastic. Few of the other staff on hand offered smiles or a "Buenos Diaz". We booked our room as an Ocean View room. Our view ended up being the back of one of the "10" restaurants.
After asking to switch rooms to one as promised, we were told to check the next day. The next day, we were told there were none available.
Then we ran into our "travel agent" and told him of our concern. The next day we got our ocean view room. Gee, I wonder why WE did not seem to matter to the management? The 10 restaurants promised are not actually 10.....Some are open each day, others are available on certain days. Most require reservations which MUST be made each morning. If you do not make reservations by 9:00 am each morning, buffet for you! Even so, we must admit that the buffet food was pretty good. Nobody in our party got sick. The beach is very nice. The rooms are NOT as we had expected. Maids did a decent job each day, but this property needs to redo the rooms. Do not let the drawers fall on your feet! All in all, if you are a first time traveler, or have never stayed anywhere that caters to your needs, this is the place for you. If you expect what you pay for, and want a vacation to remember, this is not the place for you. Would we come back here? Nahh...we don't think so... If you do go to this area, however, be SURE and do the ATV Adventure.......This will stand out in your memories for a long time!

It was our first time, and I had my doubts about such a low rate for an all-inclusive vacation. I already booked my reservation to the RD, and the reviews helped ease my mind.

Well, we just returned from there on July 20, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food and drinks were above average and better than expected (it's true, $2 to the bartender does wonders to the level of service).
The pools were meticulously cleaned every day, and there was plenty of different crowds and areas for you to find your niche.

Also, if you want to snorkel, we recommend Chico's Dive Shop for a half-day trip to Los Arcos ($20). It was the least expensive and provided the most time in the water (versus the more expensive 'party' tours).

Let me know if you have any questions.

I just got back from a great holiday at the Royal Decameron hotel. The food was great, the entertainment good, everybody working there was very nice, we had a great time. We'd like to go back there another time and if someone wants to go to Mexico I truely recommend this hotel.

Went to The Decameron in the last two weeks of June, and it was fantastic. Stayed in bloke 4, and the rooms were very clean, spacious, and with King Size beds, plus WICKED air-conditioning!! (We were lucky being on the second floor though, because apparently when the crabs came out at night, they tapped on the doors of all ground floor occupants!) The weather was great considering it was the rainy season - only rained at night! There was a massive lightning storm one night, which, although scary at the time, was good to watch, and the next day we were able to see the mountains across the ocean which we hadn't known existed! Food was excellent, although, against what everyone else seems to say, the Thai restaurant was my favourite, as I found the Italian food quite oily which didn't agree with my stomach on both occasions we dined there! Entertainment was good, although found some Americans took the water basketball event a bit too seriously - it's only a game!!! Animation team work sooo hard though, as we saw them practising for the evening entertainment at 9 in the morning, and the quality of their acts puts the UK's "normal holiday destinations" reps to shame! These people knew how to put on a show! On events outside the complex, we'd recommend the 'canopy tour' - but don't book it through First Choice, as the company that does the tour have a hut by pool 1, and it's cheaper! If you want to get an idea of what swinging through the rainforest 60+ft in the air is like, visit the web-site at vallarta-adventures.com (You can't take cameras unless you can attach them round your neck, as you need both hands, but they do video it for you, which is available in DVD or VHS format - about 30mins footage, and they do get shots of everyone in your group) The sailing adventure by the same company is also good - expect all drinks (which are included in cost) to be served in pint glasses - even the cocktails!! If you want to just see the dolphins, rather than swim with them or anything, there is a viewing platform whenever you do a tour via the vallarta adventure team (where they do their 'swimming with dolphins adventure') - you may find that's enough for you!! Walk along to Bucerias if you want to get some souvenirs - it's cheaper than Vallarta itself, but we found that we didn't want to barter with them as it seemed like they had a poorer way of living (and the goods were already cheaper than in Vallarta itself) Good thing to note is that there is a time difference, despite being so close - Bucerias is 1 hour behind the hotel, so don't head down there early on a Sunday morning! Finally, having the hotel made up of a lot of Mexicans was great to get a feel for the culture (despite being an AI accommodation) - boy, can they dance!! The only thing I'd say though is that there seems to be an American/Mexican grudge going on, and if you're an English speaker, they sometimes assume you're American - take a dictionary with you, learn at least how to say 'please' & 'thank-you', as you ARE in THEIR country! They appreciate you when you at least try! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed it!!
