Lakeside B&B is an excellent bed & breakfast. Accommodation is first class and the welcome is very warm and friendly from genial host Rob.
We spent a lovely weekend there with family - as we are bird watchers Rutland Water is the ideal place to stay and the B&B is right on the shore. There are lots of walks available in the area.
The B&B is warm & cosy - the bedrooms are very comfortable and well furnished and the lounge has a wood burner and lovely comfy sofas with great views over the water.
Breakfast was amazing - we didn't need to eat again until dinner time and then we had lots of pubs and retaurants to choose from in the area. We ate in The White Horse Epingham and Finches Arms in Hambleton - both excellent.
We would recommend this B&B and plan to stay there again ourselves.

Room tip: Our family used 2 rooms. There was a double and a single in each and also en suite for each. All rooms are very quiet.

For the 4th year running we had a wonderful time at the Lakeside B&B.
A mere 20 minute drive from where we live and yet it feels like a world apart.

Waking up to breathtaking views across the lake from the romantic four poster bed, and if that wasn't enough the wondrous aroma of a full english breakfast to tempt your tastebuds.
And when I say full i mean FULL!!

We were lucky enough to sample a Barnsdale breakfast during our stay. Freshly caught trout, smoked by our gracious host Rob - A must for all who visit.
Spoilt for choice with places to visit, pubs and reastaurants aplenty.

We'll definitely be back.

You will be given a very warm and friendly welcome by Rob, who owns the Lakeside B&B.
It is ideally positioned, within a stones throw of the waters edge, for those wanting to enjoy Rutland water.
The room was beautifully decorated and cosy. We didnt feel the -13C outside at all. There is a lovely shared guest lounge to relax in too with log burner and plenty of local information to read up on.
The breakfasts are amazing, you must try the home caught and smoked trout and scrambled egg - you wont taste better than this!

We stayed in the 4 poster, lovely room with fantastic views. The guest lounge was also great, with very comfortable sofas and a roaring wood burner. Rob is a charming host, full of useful advice and local knowledge and very helpful in all respects. His breakfasts are superb, we tried both the traditional English and his special with his own smoked trout, which we really recommend. We cycled around Rutland Water on our first day, the Lodge is right on the cycle path and the next went for a long walk in he snow. It is a great location for walking, cycling, exploring lovely villages and towns and there are also good places to eat. We recommend the nearby Fox and Hounds in Exton, a picture perfect village. There are also a couple of places in walking distance - useful in heavy snow. We tried Barnsdale Hall Hotel, just behind the Lodge. Not the best decor or ambiance, but surprisingly great food, good value and very friendly staff.

Room tip: The 4 poster has great lake views

Huge thanks for such a great review. It's a great pleasure to share this idyllic lakeside location with our guests. This winter we have been maintaining areas such as the newly decorated Lakeview Guest Lounge and the entrance hall, with new, modern colours and pictures reflecting the scenery outside the door; dramatic sunsets etc.
This is all part if our continuous improvement programme. Further improvements are planned for the Spring time.
I have to say a special thanks to everyone's positive reaction to my breakfasts! I am proud to try to serve the 'perfect English breakfast' and have experimented with various types of sausages from different specialists and makers. I think these Lincolnshire sausages are perfect for breakfasts and the special bacon I use which doesn't reduce down to nothing, delicious!
For those choosing the 'Barnsdale Breakfast', of my own rod caught trout, oak-smoked in my own 'cold smoker' with scrambled eggs, you are in for a treat.
The rainbow trout caught from the lake recently have been the best quality I have ever seen. They have been feeding on a new 'bloody red' shrimp which has appeared in Rutland Water over the past season and it has made the fish's flesh an amazing deep red colour and tastes exceptional, see my fishing website for details.
Remember, it's not just fishermen who come here, in fact most of our guests are not fishermen, they come for the fantastic location and the easy access to the lake and cycle track. All our rooms are fresh, modern and comfortable. We try to go out of our way to make your stay a great one, thanks and come again! Rob Waddington owner and fly fishing coach and fishing guide
