“Very nice, but OVERPRICED !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2011

This place is owned by Ron Joyce and family. Ron Joyce is the co-founder of Tim Hortons. This resort is quite remote, but the views are spectacular. The golf course is manicured and well maintained. The course is challenging, but yet fair. The accommodations are very luxurious ; more like condos than a hotel room. The food was very good, and was told that the spa was excellent. If you don't want to walk, they will shuttle you around the resort. The staff is very polite and professional. This place is not for the average family / person. They cater to a very affluent clientele. Get ready to spend BIG BUCKS for everything at this resort !!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of golf course or water

I live in Nova Scotia and had no idea this place was even here until a friend mentioned it to me. I ended up taking my wife here for a get away in October and took advantage of the off season rates.

Staff: The staff were very friendly and proficient. Absolutely no complaints there.

Rooms: We stayed in one of the executive suite and it was the nicest room I've ever stayed in. Down pillows and comforters, excellent mattress, in floor heating in the bathroom, gas fireplace, satellite TV, etc. etc.

The Spa: Fantastic. All the amenities you could think of in the locker rooms, the pool was incredible with a mineral pool and hot tub there as well.

The setting: If I was a golfer, I suspect it would have been even better, but as it was the walking trailers were beautiful and you could even borrow bikes if you wanted to see them all.

The food: We had the breakfast buffet and if there was one weak spot on out trip this would be it. $29 per person for pretty average food.

Over all an excellent experience. For their regular price, I would sure hope so.

The rooms: decorated in various shades of brown--very unimaginative and sterile.
The food: quite passable, but nothing to write home about.
Bar: I think there may possibly have been one full ounce of Scotch in each of my drinks--certainly no more. We asked for some peanuts or other munchies--and found we were charged $2 for some potato chips. With the price of a drink close to $10, how cheap can you be?
The breakfast buffet: very run-of-the mill, and not included in the very high price for the room.
The golf: a very pedestrian and forgettable first nine, but a memorable back nine.

We are golfers and for this reason Fox Harb'r was worth the trip. Dining was good as well, and staff were efficient. The accommodations, however, lacked much character, especially in comparison with other places in Nova Scotia and other 5-star hotels.

Stayed here for 3 nights for my wife's birthday in September 2006. We live in Halifax Nova Scotia - so this was a short car ride. If we had a plane, I suppose we could have flown and taken advantage of the resort runway! The highlight of the trip was the two visits to the wonderful Spa which is on site. We are not big golfers - but we enjoyed cycling around the golf course on bikes supplied by the resort gym. Definately a place we would recommend.

We recently returned from a ten-day tour of Nova Scotia and Fox Harb'r was certainly one of the highlights of our trip! We are totally perplexed as to why this amazing facility is not listed by Fodors, Frommers, etc.

The resort is located seemly in the middle of no where, on the north coast of NS. Gentle, rolling farm land; small, marshy tidal inlets and a fine strip of coastline provide the backdrop for this first-class establishment.

WARNING: You have to know what you are looking for when you arrive. There is no signage--only a round, meticulously landscaped, gated circular driveway with the Fox Harb'r insignia. One needs to drive to the gate and call to the front desk via an intercom. Once verified you have a reservation, the gates to heaven will automatically open.

The richly appointed wood-panelled and marble lobby/reception area is gorgeous, if not just a tad austere. The reception staff was pleasant and efficient.

"Rooms" are located in a strip of what appear to be townhomes. I believe there to be six individual rooms in each. Our room--an executive suite--featured a marble entry foyer leading to a good-sized living area with gas fireplace, overstuffed furniture (including a sofa bed for my nine-year-old) and a lovely decked porch overlooking the links and an astounding coastline panorama.

There was a small, very well appointed galley area with small refrigerator, sink, coffee maker and microwave.

The bath was deluxe with separated double sinks, Jacuzzi tub and stall shower. All marble, natch. Towels were big, white and fluffy, and the toiletries were plentiful and top-notch.

The master bedroom was tastefully furnished and featured a large, extremely comfortable, king-sized bed, two enormous closets and an additional television. Down pillows provided a great relief from six days of latex foam at most establishments.

There are two dining choices at Fox Harb'r. The main dining room and a more casual pub. We opted for the latter as we were with our daughter. The service was very good, and the food, while limited in choice, was delicious and well prepared. We ate breakfast in the main dining room and that, too, was superb.

Although we did not golf, the superior 18-hole, championship course appeared to be in immaculate condition. We did take advantage of the extravagant indoor pool, the likes of which I have never seen! At least 25 meters and 11-feet deep in a gorgeous facility framed by enormous fir beams that extend up to a 30-foot ceiling. There was a smaller kiddie pool, a six-person hot tub, and a sauna. The adjoining fitness center looked extremely well equipped as well.

There was an outdoor pool which we somehow managed to miss. The men's and women's locker rooms were magnificently well appointed and bristol. I wished I had brought my tennis racket as the ocean-front courts looked extremely inviting. The spa, too, was calling, but unfortunately time did not permit.

Fox Harb'r also has a number of private residences. I understand that Anne Murray (the Canadian chanteuse) owns a home there, and the owner of Canada's Tim Horton's chain, Ron Joyce owns a rather impressive compound as well.

Fox Harb'r is worth the trip. It's a 15-minute ride to the Jost winery, and the PEI ferry is perhaps a 30-40 trip away. The rates are not inexpensive (US $400 per night for an executive suite), but this is one place you certainly get what you pay for. I would return for a longer stay without reservation.
