Mayalay Beach Resort
Ranked #4 of 8 Hotels in Ko Ngai
Reviewed 17 January 2014

Mayalay is one of the most recommendable resort on Koh Ngai. We loved the style and the beach just in front. The room was clean, the bungalow very cosy and the restaurant good! We spent new years at Mayalay and just loved this place. We would come back anytime.

I got transferred here since my booked resort had been closed due to a storm. I w the only one here, it was great. The staff, James, Eamon, etc, were awesome. I loved the beach front cottage, was beautiful. A little strange being the solo person here, but was great. Found a a wonderful beach dog who hung around me, he was well trained and I encouraged his hanging around, so not a problem at all. I will definitely return here, glad the other resort turfed me here.

Very expensive restaurant and overpriced rooms, which are not even that nice. I recommend staying in Fantasy resort, which is cheaper, nicer and on the better part of the beach. The island is very nice and in low season you will almost be there alone

Booked 3 nights satyed 2. Allthough understand its a mid range location i was dissappinted at the standard of cleanliness. The bed was clean but the bathroom poor , evidence of mouse droppings.Bathroom open to air and drainage outlet straight ourside so obvious route in. Difficult to say as staff v friendy & helpful & spa very good. But strange sweet smell in room ? (smelt like mouse and found durther droppings in room)Sadly this was very offputting.Having experienced koh lanta i would not recomnend koh ngai as very touristy & very little to offer in representing real thailand.

We went back to mayalay for the 3 time this summer, we were 4 families travelling together and we stayed in 6 sea maya . We was 6 kids from 4-10 , youth 4 17,17,18 and 20 years old . We hade a lovely time , our friend Torn had this dive shop 50 meters away on the beach , Ronin dive , we will recommend that place . The resort opened after renovation on the 1 of july , the restaurant was renovated and also the patio at the villas / rooms we will be back next time we go to Thailand

Room Tip: Sea maya is the best , amazing view

Koh Ngai was now more touristy than we thought and wanted.

Pro: Free wifi (only in the restaurant & lobby area though). Generous upgrade from Sun Maya (cheapest room) to Sea Maya (seaview room). White sand beach in front of the resort.

Con: LEAKS! in the bedroom and bathroom. There were sounds of rats running around the whole night. Poor quality restaurant (except banana fritters, which were available only on the last day we were there). Insufficient supplies for food (no ice cream, no young coconut, etc.)

We stayed here for 8 days in july 2010 , 6 adults, 5 youth and 3 kids . We loved this resort , the bungalow and the beach was perfect for kids -

The breakfast was a little bit poor. We had massage every day with the most perfect view
The coral reef right outside the resort is very good , the staff did everything they could to make this holliday as good at it could be .

We are coming back this summer with family and friends :-)
