This is our third stay at this property. We love the outdoor terrace for dining. The food has always been excellent, using locally sourced ingredients. Most of the rooms have a great view of the river and all of the people passing by. They recently widened the street and added sidewalks to the riverfront so it is much safer now for pedestrians. There is good free WiFi, safe parking free at the lot down the street. The hotel itself is just darling, pretty everywhere you look. One of the few places we stayed where I did not cringe when I got the bill. Lots of things to do within walking distance.

Room Tip: Try the river view suite, has huge tub, and a sitting area with small fridge.

We decided to visit this village as it is listed in "The back roads of France" book and the pictures were lovely. It is also classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

What better place to stay than right in the middle of town with the bonus of having a superb restaurant attached?

We requested a room with views over the river as we wanted to wake up to the sleepy village with the river winding by. The weather was not kind to us as it was raining and the water was flowing so fast we couldn't have the canoe ride we wanted to.

We booked our table at the restaurant in advance and were thankful we did. Again the rain thwarted our plans as we wanted a table on the terrace but our table was just as good inside. The meal was all that we expected and more and the service was also of a high standard.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the front rooms overlooking the river. Although the road goes past the amount of traf...

We drove from Bordeaux and it was very easy to find this hotel as it is right on the main road overlooking the Dordogne Valley. The staff were absolutely wonderful and we were lucky to have a river view room which was very cosy (only downside is the stand-up shower with no shower curtain but I understand this is a European trait?). We ate at the Michelin star restaurant 2.5 times (one night was just for dessert) which is easily one of the most memorable meals we have ever had. Although the waiting time is long (the restaurant is always full), the food was just impeccable and was worth the wait. We had the foie gras, beef, line fish, crayfish tails, duck and much more! The chef and staff also came out to greet and thank us each time. We had eaten at a couple of other restaurants in La Roque Gageac but the food was so disappointing (flavourless etc). This hotel is also in a great location as Sarlat is very busy and crowded. It is also closer to all the canoeing starting points. This hotel and restaurant is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Choose the riverview room if available

The easiest way to get to this beautiful hotel is by car. We drove our rental car from Bordeaux, enjoying the many beautiful sights along the way. Initially it was difficult to find as our GPS took us up a hill to an incorrect location. Once we found it, we realized that being street front in this small little town along the beautiful Dordogne River, it should've been easy! The reception we received was so warm and friendly. This is a small family owned-operated boutique hotel. We stayed in room 20 which was quite large. Not only a large bedroom with a really comfortable bed but a huge bathroom (with separate toilet and two sinks) and a good size sitting area, as well. The view out of the front of our room was of a beautiful part of the river. Very quiet at night! The only challenge with this room was the flight of stairs up with our luggage, the weak Wi-Fi reception and there was no stand up shower. There is a handheld shower as part of a tub and we found this to be a different way of bathing! Somewhat messy when one is not used to it! Perhaps the best part of our stay was the warmth of the staff. We were made to feel so important and attended to. Drinks before dinner were suggested enjoyed out on the terrace and I can’t begin to say enough about the food served in the hotel restaurant. At the time of check in, we were told a table had been saved for us, if we were interested. We are so happy we dined here! The smell from the kitchen during our stay was amazing, topped only by the actual food itself. We can highly recommend the foie gras, the beef, the lamb and by far the best duck fillet we’ve ever had! (It was my first time tasting duck and my husband warned me that it is better than any duck he’s ever had and not to expect the same great taste if I ordered it again!) The second night we were seated at a beautiful table with a large window. Perfect for enjoying the river. This hotel was a true high light of our two weeks visiting the southern part of France. I only hope we can return again one day!

Room Tip: Room 20 was the only one we saw and it was exceptional. Great views, quiet and large!

Charlotte at check in was very welcoming and helpful. Bernoire (spelling?) our waiter at meal time was a joy and most helpful. The Michelin star restaurant produced excellent food and the chief was around at the end to talk to us- we felt very welcome. The setting, beneath grape vines overlooking the river was an amazing place to dine. The toilet in our room had a damp odour that we couldn't get rid of but in the scheme of things this was a small issue and the hotel still deserves excellent. The river facing view was amazing. We would just sit there at dusk when all the crowds had gone watching the world go by. This is a beautiful place to stay.

Terrific hotel and restaurant. Great location! Very clean. Staff extremely helpful and kind. My wife had fallen and hurt her leg. We had an ice pack (poche de glace) to be kept frozen. Staff had no problem keeping it in the freezer for us. They didn't mind getting it for us whenever we needed it nor did they mind taking it back to be refrozen. The restaurant was great also, good wine and fois gras, good service. Absolutely would stay again. Stayed two nights. Super! Close to Sarlat and Lascaux-very scenic-right on the river. Wi-Fi and parking good.
