“Amazing customer service”
Reviewed 3 June 2013

I just spend a week at this little paradise (May 2013). I can't state enough how wonderful it was. We arrived late, after 23:00 on a Saturday but were welcomed with a lovely drink. Then we were asked if we wanted to have a twin room rather then the reserved double and it was no problem at all. Everything was so easy, never rushed, which put us into holiday mood straight away. Our room was amazing, view of the sea, right by the pool. The attention to detail is breathtaking and so very much appreciated. The hair dryer in our room was awesome and also the decoration of the room was cleary done with a lot of love. The beds very so comofortable and the bathroom was very spacious and the shower was brilliant. The very nice hotel owner seemed to read all our wishes before we could even voice them. Everyday we were greeted which such warm and lovely words, it made us feel very special. The room was cleaned every day and was spotless, even our terrace was kept clean of leaves and the ashtray was cleaned for us every day. New towels every day eventhough we put them back on the hangers, just amazing. The breakfast was lovely and there was enough for everybody, unless you expect to get what you get at home, which is just wrong seeing that you are in a country with amazing food. I couldn't believe English guests asking for a fry up, come on, embrace the country you are in for crying out loud!! All in all I can only suggest this little piece of heaven to everybody!! And also I have to highlight that the bad reviews of some guests cleary show that they maybe should go somewhere else where everything is English!!!

Room Tip: room 10, overlooks the pool and you can see the sea!!

My now husband and I spent 2 weeks at Marillia in Aug/Sept on arrival at the hotel the first thing I noticed was the lovely setting, you walk though the large metal gates and are met by flowers and trees its lovely. We were shown to our room a maisonette, which was not the room I booked. I went to the reception and the problem was that Thomsons had not told the hotel that we had upgraded to a one bedroom apartment this wasnt a issue and we were moved without delay.

I know it costs to upgrade but the one bed apartment is well worth the money; a large bedroom with access to two private balconies and a reasonably sized living area. The shower room is small but has everything you need. Previous reviews have commented that the shower trays have a tiled up stand which they thought was dangerous, it is a bit strange and you probably will hit your little toe on it but I visited several hotels (our wedding guests were scattered around) and they were all the same. They are not dangerous just different!

The hotel is in a nice quiet area almost on the beach front. Be warned that although it is very quiet towards the end of August we were told that the huge beach bars play very loud music til very late earlier in the year. We did experience how loud this can be when there was a wedding at one of the clubs the music does echo through the resort. Apart from the one night it was silent.

Breakfast was good and typically Greek; cheese, cold cuts, bread, pastries, yogurt etc and always cold if you fancy a hot breakfast you'll have to cook it yourself or head down to the beach bars. If you follow the main road there is a supermarket where you can buy cheap water, food and beer. The market has a free bus that will take you and your shopping back to the hotel which is great. There is a pharmacy and ATM at the market and make sure you check out the 24hr bakery next door. Yum!

The pool area is quite, clean and comfortable. The pool itself isn't the largest but you can swim in it and again its clean. There is also a toddler pool and a small jacuzzi. If you want a big pool head down to the beach bars many of which have large pools you can use if buying drinks.

We didn't spend much time at the hotel during the day and didn't really get to know the staff, so I didn't tell them about our wedding. So imagine my surprise when we got back to the room after the ceremony to find that the staff had made a heart from flowers on the bed and had left wine, treats and a congratulations card! A lovely and welcomed gesture.

Also if you are looking at Marillia as a base for a wedding, some of the best photos we have were taken at the hotel amongst the flowers and arches.

All of the beach bars have free WiFi, so long as you are drinking just ask the staff for the password and if you are looking for somewhere to watch football head down to Kellys bar on the beach its the closest one to the hotel and the owner will show what you want on request.

If you can, take a walk up the mountain to ancient thira, its a hell of a trek especially in the heat but worth it (the site itself is closed one day a week, I cant remember which day but check before you go cause its a big hill to climb!)

Finally, although the sunset in Oia is as spectacular as they say you will be sharing it with thousands and thousands of people!!! Take the road towards Akrotiri follow the coast and keep going up the views are good here to.

Room Tip: The one bedroom apartment with two balconies was lovely

This is one of our favourite holiday destinations. However, I am sitting here scratching my head at a recent review by Miss0Piggy. It amazes me how some people do little, or no research into their chosen hotels. For instance, when we book anywhere we always avoid phrases like:-
1. Kids Club
2. Family friendly
3. Quiz nights
4. Night life

What we do look for is:-
1. Adult heaven.
2. Peaceful and quiet location
3. Chilled out ambience

This is where Marillia Village ticks all our boxes. One only has to read every one of the reviews to get some sort of clue as to what sort of place it is. And we all can't be wrong! Maria and her team have a place to be proud of, and we will continue to visit for many years to come.

What a wonderful spot at the Marilla Village the location itself is in like an oasis, the stakk were excellent especially Alina who worked tirelessly if it wasn't for her the place would fall apart she is a diamond. The room was spotless with very nice touches on a daily basis.I have to reiterate the service from Alina just more than first class. There are some very good Tavernas within walking distance especially the Charlina, superb food and service.
Stunning views of Santorini.

We picked Marilla as we wanted an apartment with a separate bedroom so my husband and I could relax in the evening when the kids were asleep. Our daughters are 2 and1 years old. It worked out cheaper to book a package with Thompson but I emailed Marilla to ensure we did get a separate bedroom. They were very helpfully and explained that they could reserve a room but all apartments are on the first floor. We went with this option.
We arrived around 10pm and the reception was closed with a note asking us to go to the pool bar. We then met a lady would showed us our room (number 8, right by the pool). It was not the most welcoming of greeting and we soon realized that this lady was happy and moody all in 2min! We saw her being quiet rude to another couple. During our stay we did not come across the owners that everyone raves about in previous reviews but we did get pretty miserable looking staff.
Our room was nice and clean but nothing amazing for the price we paid. The bathroom was very small with no bath and not the safest for small children. The shower tray was made with marble tiles in an upright position and I was very worried about the kids falling on them in a small space.
The sitting room had to sofa beds, which were very uncomfortable to sleep on. The bedroom had double bed which was a little more comfortable. A travel cot was placed in the room but it had no mattress so we used the spare blanket to make it comfortable.
We also noticed a pool of water by the fridge as it wasn't working properly, we informed a lady at the reception and heard nothing more of it when she shrugged her shoulders...and to be fair it wasn't worth the hassle to chase it up.
Breakfast wasn't bad at all for Greece, they had a few cereals that my kids weren't keen on but I did bring some weetabix so just used their milk. There was the usually ham, cheese, bread and pastries but no hot food. It was satisfactory. The one bug bare of mine was that the two ladies that put the food out were smoking at the door way of the food area, not very pleasant!
The biggest disappointment was the pool area, are kids kept slipping on the tiles and the main pool was very deep. There was a shallow end but it was small and then slopped very deeply. There was a paddling pool but my 2 year old wasn't happy in there. The pools were also quiet cold for little ones.
The gardens around the apartments were lovely and little sweet favours were let in our room which was a nice touch.
One other issue was we had to pay 40 euro to keep our room on the day of departure, which seemed a bit steep considering we didn't get into our room until late on our arrival.
We were attending a friends wedding during our holiday and saw other accommodations. Our apartment was slightly better but I don't feel ours was worth the extra money.
We also found the road outside a bit loud in the morning with cars and mopeds passing before 7am and we never found out what it was but every morning we heard gun shots for ages early on, with thought maybe it was local farmers chasing away birds? It was just annoying that we never got to sleep past 7.

One little find for us was a beach bar called something like the happy fish, next the the diamond bay apartments. They didn't charge for using sun beds like most and at the back of the bar was a lovely pool also free to use if you at least buy a drink. We used this almost daily and met our large group of friends there.
We had several meals at Charlina restaurant, the owner was great with little ones and the food was lovely. We also enjoyed Gods Garden restaurant and Tranquillo, which does lovely large meals at really good prices, their wraps are big enough for two to share! The downside to Tranquillo is you have to wait awhile before getting your food.
Most of the good restaurants are around 20-30min walk away, which doesn't bother us but we would have been concerned if our girls were not in pushchairs and the road is not lite up well at night and it feels unsafe with cars and mopeds flying by. We ended up buying a torch.
There's a bus outside Marilla that goes to Thira. Its well worth a visit as its stunning views are the reason Santorini is so popular, just be aware that its busy and hard work with pushchairs as its wide steps all around and cobbles that shook our kids to sleep : )
Over all we had a lovely holiday but we were hardly at Marilla, it probably better for couples than for families. Wish we'd had the owners there as maybe our experience would have been better.

Room Tip: Apartments with separate bedrooms are on the second floor.

Spent a week in room 6 at Marillia Village Apts, 21st to 28th august 2012.Beautiful place, spotless clean, excellent staff.....all 2 of them..!!! oh plus a cleaner. Bedding changed every day, cleaner tidied rooms as well. We went bed and breakfast but it wasnt nice. The towels took a layer of skin off because they were so rough...!Everywhere on the island has FREE WI-FI.......EXCEPT HERE. ! Only 2.5 euros for half an hour internet but not the point, FREE everywhere else. Great pool but its TOO QUIET, I personally love to hear kids laughing and splashing but parents felt obliged to tell their kids to be quiet because theres no noise anywhere...! if you want the quietest holiday ever go here. Not the worst holiday we,ve had but i wouldnt go there again. it felt like "gods waiting room"....but if you do go....TAKE A FLUFFY BATH TOWEL... ouch

The Marillia Village Hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, with flowers around the door. The rooms are clean, basic and comfortable. The food is all home-cooked and the staff are very accommodating in particular 'Alina' who works so hard preparing, serving and cleaning the restaurant area. She was able to give us advice about places to visit and made our visit very enjoyable. The pool was clean but a little small but this was not a problem. These apartments are very close to the beach and there is a bus stop located just opposite, however the best way to explore the island was to hire a car at Marillia, especially eventful was to sunset at Oia, but leave plenty of time as the restaurants are always full in advance. Would Recommend Marillia to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in a tranquil environment. would love to return again.
