“Lovely hotel in beautiful resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2013

We've just returned from this lovely little hotel in Les Carroz, France. The rooms are lovely, the showers are fantastic and the breakfasts were excellent. We also dined in the restaurant a couple of evenings and enjoyed the food and ambiance. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is a little walk away from the village centre but there is a good ski bus service to the telecabine through the day. There is a small bar in the hotel but we preferred to travel in to the village in the evenings where there are a good range of restaurants.

Just returned from a great week at this hotel. We it found it very comfortable with great walk in showers.the breakfast was top quality and staff more than helpfull.
Some reports say that it is a bit out of town ,however we found the walk back after eating out to be refreshing. We ate in the hotel two nights and found th food to be excellent .We just like to try different places when we'd re out. There are lots of good restaurants in this delightful resort.

Just returned from 3 night stay. The hotel was very welcoming and had friendly staff. The rooms are of a high standard with superb walk in shower - lovely hot water after a hard days skiing! There is a complementary bus shuttle service to take you to the lift but if you have your own car it's easy. The owners keep the drive very clear of snow. The food also was excellent although we only ate there one night as there are many very good restaurants/bars to eat in the local town which is about 1KM walk - quite easy unless you have a disability. If I had to be critical I would say that the early awakening from the noise of the snow clearer was a little rude but only happened once commencing around 7.00 a.m. But I would stay there again!

Room Tip: Probably not room 1 as it's right by reception where everyone goes past - I would ask for an ups...

Hotel slightly out of the town but linked with free ski bus which runs at convenient times at start and end of day. Allows you to use the warm ski lockers at the bottom of the gondola so less hassle carrying your gear around. A couple of reasonable bars in the main square ok for après ski. Ski hire shops situated mid way between hotel and town or in the square. Book on line for best deals.
Hotel was rebuilt last year and is very comfortable. Family run with mother as chef. Breakfast provides all you need without being extensive choice. Dinner is 3 or 4 course typical menu de jour but the a la carte restaurant in the next room serves very good food. We tried the taster menu one night and the food was of a very good standard. Reasonable choice I wine a fair price. Good bar and lounge to relax in.
We were very lucky with the snow. Resort is low but had snowed and did snow every night so perfect conditions. All but beginners will need to buy the lift pas to include Flaine. Plenty of blue and red skiing with off piste areas to play in if required which seem fairly safe. Was crowded on the Sunday but otherwise quiet considering it's proximity to Geneva.
Very good choice for a short break with friends.
Would recommend th reor and the hotel.

Hi Folks,
Just got back from 4 days skiing at Les Carroz and staying at this hotel.
The town is great. Short 50 mins transfer from Geneva and enough bars, restaurants and little shops to keep you busy apres ski. We were there over new year's so the atmosphere was nice but that meant the slopes were pretty busy (apart from NYs day when everybody, apart from us, were tucked up in their beds). Prices are ok, c. 12Euro for a steak et frites, c. 15-20Euro for a pizza. The pizza place in the centre of the square does a 3 course meal for 23Euro per person which we thought was good value.
The slopes at Les Carroz are great for beginner to intermediate and varied enough to use for our short time without getting bored. If you're there for longer then go over to Flaine for more variety (and I thought, slightly better snow).
The hotel itself was great. A small family run, newly renovated, environmentally conscious hotel. It is located about 10-15 mins walk out of the town, but be aware that there is a fairly lengthy uphill section on the way back.
There is a free ski bus that travels to the gondola in the mornings and back to the hotel in the afternoons. The bus stop is literally at the end of the hotel drive c. 30 secs from the front door. Just ask the hotel for the timetable. The only problem is the times are fairly limited from and to the hotel so plan your day around them if you don't fancy the walk.
Our tip would be to get a ski locker at the gondola (c. 8 Euro per day) which can hold 4 sets (we managed to get 5 sets in there....sneaky). You can then head straight into town for a drink or just get back to the hotel hassle free. The locker has integrated boot driers which is an added plus. The hotel does have great free ski lockers too with ample space so don't worry.
The hotel room was clean, modern and functional. Not the biggest in the world but certainly enough room to move around freely. Best bed I've had on a ski trip!
The bathroom/shower was great but just try not to use the shower at peak times otherwise your hot water might cut out for a few seconds and water pressure might reduce.
The room did suffer from a lack of hanging space and the "wardrobe" wasn't wide enough to encapsulate a coathanger but we got main stuff i.e. jackets, ski pants hanging.....sort of.
We had breakfast everyday which was ok without being too pretentious. You do have a choice of 2 options, express 10Euro (like continental) or full 16Euro (buffet with cooked sausages, potatoes and eggs etc.). We went for the full breakfasts and started our day with full tummies. We also used the breads, meats and cheeses to make sandwiches for lunch on the slopes.....slightly cheapo of us but needs must sometimes. So the 16Euro was actually for 2 meals.
The dinner in the restaurant looked good but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try it. The chef seems very accomplished so give it a go if you're there.
If you want to make the most of your skiing after check out, the hotel will store your bags and there is a shower you can use prior to departure which we thought was a nice touch.
Overall we enjoyed our time at this hotel, enough so to recommend it even though it is slightly further out from town. We found the family to be warm, welcoming, accomodating and spoke great English. Enjoy!

The hotel is modern and clean and we had a pleasant stay over New Year 2012/13 - there are still some parts that need completing as it has been through a major refurbish but these don't really affect your stay eg light fittings missing

The bed rooms are quite small but beds are comfortable, ample lighting, temperature is quite hard to control but we had a balcony so could open the door if too hot. The ensuite bathroom was new, very clean and the walk in shower was a welcome relief after a hard day skiing.

The breakfast is rather expensive at €10 for an express (tea, coffee, OJ, breads and pastries) or full at €16 (all above but as much as you want plus yoghurt, eggs) but the boulangerie down the road sell the same for a lot less! There is a gourmet restaurant on site but that was a bit too expensive for us so we ate out in town each evening.

The hotel is up a hill on the way towards Flaine - its a 10 min walk but the ski bus stops right outside. We walked to the Telecabine on the first day - never again! You get used to the bus timetable. Walking out to the centre at night is a pleasant walk and no real effort.

The heated driveway was really neat when it snowed over night and was clear the following morning and the customer service friendly and efficient.

Overall a very pleasant stay, would recommend.

Room Tip: We had rooms 214 and 215 - both faced the front and had balconies - good views down the mountain

Recently refurbished eco hotel("low energy consumption").Rooms were spacious and clean.however they were a bit chilly(heating is off while you are not in the room to save energy) and not enough hot water(after ten minutes in the shower, water started switching between cold and mildly warm). Owners seemed not particularly apologetic about the escalation of all these problems to what they just answered "we are currently working on it".
Food was just nice,no fluffy adornment and quantity is just the size for fulfilling a average eater(luckily, i am an average eater!). That said, the soup was very nice.Breakfast was more or less of the same line as dinner.
All in all, as the ski resort deserves the trip i would only would come to this hotel if all the rest were fully booked.

Madame, Monsieur,

Thank you for your advice and bring some additional information.

The heating in the room: it is absolutely not stop when you are not in the room but in reduced temperature as indicated in the room directory!

As you said, rightly, join other travelers, the hotel is environmentally friendly ... It is for this reason that the heater works this way! Indeed it is the goal of overheating the room if nobody stays!
In contrast, in the room directory we will inform you of this approach but also that it is possible to regulate the temperature on request.

We notice that you not said to have been cold in your room it is very positive, even with this system.

Regarding your problem with hot water, we note your comment and add in times of high demand it is possible that the temperature varies,

Your comment has been heard and we inform you that we have already contacted a specialized company to find the cause of the malfunction. Know that we attach, despite your comment, a special attention to the quality of our services.

Finally with the food on half board, we find that you rather enjoyed and we are delighted. You add the quantity for you was perfect, so too much or not enough we let each travelers judge on this point!

The breakfast included in the half board is served at the buffet : with hot drinks (espresso, chocolate, various infusions and teas to choose from, cappuccino ...), fruit juice, cold milk, a choice cold meats and local cheeses, eggs cooked to order, potatoes, sausage, sourdough bread, brown bread, buns individual, toasts bread, brioche de Nantes, an assortment of homemade cakes, a choice of cereals, prunes in syrup (homemade), a marmalade selection, homemade yoghurt, cottage cheese, fruit salad, a basket fresh fruit of the season, ...
The buffet is all self-service for more than 2 hours, so then once again we let each travelers judge on this point!

We note that you haven't chosen our hotel for the quality of our services, which in all your comment are pretty good. But also not for our environmental engagement, but by default, and the note doesn't match your comments that you add.

We regret it and remain at your disposal to discuss verbally,

Best regards,

The family and the staff
