I'm not sure if we hit at a bad time, but we seriously disliked the attitude in this hotel.
We arrived without a booking, for just one night at the start of the season, and the place seemed deserted. The only people we saw at all were the owner's son, one waitress and three guests.
Our standard room was beautiful to look at on the surface, with electric shutters, modern furniture and a well-designed bathroom. However, it was very cramped, and I would have struggled to stay there for a week with ski gear. The bed was very comfortable and the room warm.
It looked as if there room was still incomplete, with bar codes visible on some of the wood, and badly-painted surfaces. When I mentioned this, we were offered a room change and told that 'the builders had let them down'. But in my book, leaving bar codes on bits of wood just shows a lack of care and attention to detail. It would have taken less than 10 minutes to sort these type of items out....and it was clear from the owner's son's reaction that we were far from the first to mention this.
The terrace outside our room had a heap of junk on it, which didn't bother us as we were only there for one night, but would have annoyed me to look out at for longer.
In this supposed 'eco' hotel, it took over 5 minutes for warm water to arrive in our room, a huge waste of resource.
Internet charges were high, as were charges for tea and coffee (no kettle in room, there wouldn't have been room for one). We didn't eat in the hotel, as both the restaurant and brasserie were totally deserted and we were looking for some atmosphere for dinner. We left before breakfast in the morning.
Having seen the 'you didn't say you were unhappy before you left' response to a previous review, I decided to explain what type of review I planned before leaving, so that there was an opportunity for a response before placing the review.
At that point I got a very long story about how none of it was their fault, they had taken the builders to court, but had lost the case. They knew about the hot water problem, but couldn't do anything about it and so on. It was definitely a case of justifying the problems, rather than apologising for them or giving any indication that they planned to fix them.
