“Definite attitude problem”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

I'm not sure if we hit at a bad time, but we seriously disliked the attitude in this hotel.

We arrived without a booking, for just one night at the start of the season, and the place seemed deserted. The only people we saw at all were the owner's son, one waitress and three guests.

Our standard room was beautiful to look at on the surface, with electric shutters, modern furniture and a well-designed bathroom. However, it was very cramped, and I would have struggled to stay there for a week with ski gear. The bed was very comfortable and the room warm.

It looked as if there room was still incomplete, with bar codes visible on some of the wood, and badly-painted surfaces. When I mentioned this, we were offered a room change and told that 'the builders had let them down'. But in my book, leaving bar codes on bits of wood just shows a lack of care and attention to detail. It would have taken less than 10 minutes to sort these type of items out....and it was clear from the owner's son's reaction that we were far from the first to mention this.

The terrace outside our room had a heap of junk on it, which didn't bother us as we were only there for one night, but would have annoyed me to look out at for longer.

In this supposed 'eco' hotel, it took over 5 minutes for warm water to arrive in our room, a huge waste of resource.

Internet charges were high, as were charges for tea and coffee (no kettle in room, there wouldn't have been room for one). We didn't eat in the hotel, as both the restaurant and brasserie were totally deserted and we were looking for some atmosphere for dinner. We left before breakfast in the morning.

Having seen the 'you didn't say you were unhappy before you left' response to a previous review, I decided to explain what type of review I planned before leaving, so that there was an opportunity for a response before placing the review.

At that point I got a very long story about how none of it was their fault, they had taken the builders to court, but had lost the case. They knew about the hot water problem, but couldn't do anything about it and so on. It was definitely a case of justifying the problems, rather than apologising for them or giving any indication that they planned to fix them.

Madame, Monsieur,

Firstly thank you for taking the time to share your general impressions of our establishment.

We allow ourselves to provide additional information for other travelers so they know everything.

This client said he was satisfied with his standard room, as well as different materials and technologies present in the room. Moreover it stresses have been hot in the room and have a very comfortable bed. We are pleased to see the positive points were identified.

For the rest of his commentary, we are surprised to find out today and she told us nothing in the questionnaire available in the room. Indeed, it came without a reservation early in the season, we would add that it was a week before the official opening of the slopes. She arrived without a reservation and asked prices. We contacted rates and wished that we reduce ... we did not accept because we have a certain respect for all our customers then each client must have the same rate. In addition, we made him get the best price is a discount of almost 30%.

Certainly this refusal to lower our price is born discontent this client who wants to add more discount and maybe the rest of the comment the following to justify his note.

Actually the weekend before opening the resort was quieter. This is an advantage for her because we have a lot more time for them and she says with great kindness that despite the quiet activity there was staff to the service, so it is very positive!

She says, she can not stay in the room with skis for several days but this is quite normal because the skis are not intended to be in the room but in the ski room (available)! We have not presented because the ski season was not yet open!

She says we do not attach attention to detail ... but we work every day to always better accommodate our clients, we customize each room welcomes with a personal note, we check every room before the arrival of our guests, we have flowers in the bathrooms, we are available 24h/24 for them ... We regret that she is not noticed that. Finally when his remark on the bar code, which was not removed, we regret that, but we immediately offered him a surclassassement so that it is fully satisfied with her stay and she simply refused!

Talk about the ecological approach, she says supposed, we invested, there are two years more than € 5 million in our family to transform our hotel. We heat with wood hotel, the hot water with solar panels, we get 40,000 liters of rain water for toilet operation, we organize the sorting, we offer environmentally friendly products, we train young people ... We invite every traveler to visit our website for more information. Indeed the hot water inlet time can sometimes be long but we show in the room, the project as large as ours involves problems of implementation and therefore legal problems in progress. This is being improved.

She said she read negative comments about our hotel but she still made the choice to come to our house, but why?

We return, to be clear to other travellers, that the trial is not over and even well in progress ... We do not understand how and what information allow to judge without knowing the court case underway! This does not have to justify our kinks . But this client knows absolutely nothing about this case. For to other travelers, we would like to say, nothing change the quality of the services we offer , the hotel is fully completed, has received all permits opening and got ( after an audit ) classification 3 * 3 fireplaces and 3 pots Logis International.

This observation raised by this client is deeply blaissante for our family. We have done this work with the sole aim to provide a quality product for our customers. We work 365 days a year to serve our customers. And if we strive to offer quality ... no one is perfect !

Add that this client is gone to the bar, to find a corkscrew and other utensils to make his meals in his room , opened all the drawers at the sight of our staff ... each judge !

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this lovely family hotel, travelling between Christmas and New Year, a family of 4, with 2 late teenage children ( not really children now). This is a really nice, friendly family run hotel. It felt like a home from home to us. We had 2 premium rooms, both excellent, very clean, wonderful views across the valley, each with a balcony.
We had the bed and breakfast option, which worked well for us. Breakfast was excellent, all the plentiful food tasting very fresh, lots of choice, breads, croissants, cereal, hot food.....the whole lot.
We ate once in the gastronomic restaurant in the hotel, what a treat, fantastic food. The rest of the time we walked into the village for supper, lots of good restaurants but in high season you need to book each night.
We also rented a locker at the telecabine, i feel this is crucial as it means you can come off the slopes early if you wish and walk the 10 mins back to the hotel unencumbered by ski gear. The ski bus does stop outside the hotel, but the timings in the afternoon are limited and nothing runs between 2pm and 4.30pm, so an early finish is tricky without the locker option.
In summary i would highly recommend this individual hotel. its small, very friendly, the nearby village is lovely, food great, we had a wonderful 4 days and will return.

We hit the open road without a hotel for our first night but a quick search on TripAdvisor directed us to this gem which didn't disappoint. Off the main road for our trip but well worth the diversion, the scenery in the summertime was absolutely gorgeous. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and given the option of two different rooms both of which they showed us to help make the decision. It was an easy one: the mountain view please! Having arrived late we decided to stay on-site for dinner and again, we were not disappointed! Top level service, knowledgeable staff and a good wine list. We only stayed one night but the room was very pretty and tidy and modern - great shower looking out to the mountains! We had breakfast on-site as well which again was plentiful and the staff kind and efficient. Should we ever pass this way again we'll definitely choose to stay and eat again at La Croix de Savoie!

We stayed just one night and wished we could have stayed longer! The hotel is brilliantly located for skiing in the Grand Massif area with the bus stop to the Telecabine outside the front door. Our room (109) was small but had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Breakfast was great. We had dinner in the restaurant gastronomique and it was fabulous. There is a great choice - a la carte or three different menues. The staff is knowledgeable, courteous and attentive. The foie gras, venison, steak and the puddings were to die for! We were able to leave our luggage in their storeroom during the second day and were even offered the use of the shower to change on our return. Great service and attention to detail. We will certainly go again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the valley and mountains on the other side.

This is our second year at the hotel for a 4 night ski break
in March.

What makes it so great are the family who run it - so friendly and accommodating and they put everything into keeping their guests happy. Such lovely, genuine people with so much passion for what they do.

Very comfortable rooms, good continental breakie and some rooms have stunning views across the valley - we were in 214. Worth booking a deluxe room and if travelling with kids the mezzanine duplex (there's only one).

Since last year, more improvements have been made including a little salon for vin chaud / to watch the 6 nations.

We didn't use the ski room as we hired a locker at the base of the main ski lift. Saves all the hassle of lugging ski's onto a bus and very easy. Definitely recommend it if you want an easy life. The hotel is a 15 minute walk down to the town, coming back is up a steep hill. We were fine with this but it is quite steep!

We love Les Carroz - its relaxed, not pretentious and isn't a rip off like so many other resorts.
We were gutted to miss out on our favourite restaurant, Grill du Gron - it only has 20 covers and they were full until the day after we left. If you like beef it is a must but book before arriving in Les Carroz. But did find Auberge Vernant on the slopes - best cheese fondu I have ever tasted - have to pre-book.

We stayed, half board, at la Croix de Savioe for a week beginning on 26th Feb 2013. We chose this hotel primarily because we were travelling from Monday to Monday and it was pretty much the only hotel in the area that offered accommodation on these dates. Everywhere else insisted on a Saturday to Saturday.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Tiret (son of the proprietor). Throughout our stay, Tiret, his mother and the rest of the staff looked after the 3 of us as if we were family. Our 5 year old was especially well cared for as if they had known her all of her life. We were genuinely sorry to say goodbye to them at the end of our stay.

Our room had very high roof and a mezzanine floor where there were 2 single beds. Ideal for our daughter who was in our room but separate from us also. It was spacious and well appointed with a large balcony. The view was absolutely breathtaking!!

The hotel is a short walk from the slopes/ski lifts but with all the ski gear to carry, it's really too far to walk (we did it one day). However, there is a regular free bus service in the town that is easy to use. It's not worth getting a locker in the village for your ski gear as the hotel has a complimentary, heated ski room. The walk to the village in the evening was about 12 minutes and very pleasant.

In addition to the residents dining room, there was a full a la carte restaurant. As we were half board, we didn't use it but if the standard of food we ate was anything to go by, the restaurant must be outstanding. One evening, we asked for a particular meal that we were going to pay for as a departure from our fixed menu and to our delight, the proprietor put our request onto the menu for that night. Now that is service catering for your guests!!!

The quality of the fixtures and fittings of this hotel, together with the service, earn it well deserved 5 out of 5.

If there was an area that could have been improved upon, it would be tea making facilities in the room and free wi-fi. There were limited English speaking channels available on the room TV so iPads/laptops are great to occupy children in the evening. Internet connection would have been nice.

We will be coming back! :0)

As older skiers we now find six days skiing a bit too much so booked la Croix de Savoie for four days as an alternative to our usual apartment based ski holiday. The hotel was perfect - excellent value for money and excellent breakfast and dinner. We didn't book half board because we know Les Carroz and intended to take dinner in the village - we ended up eating in the restaurant for three of the five evenings we were there ! The proprietors really made us feel we were welcome and that they enjoyed looking after their guests. Slight downside is the distance from the slopes but once we got the hang of the timing of the navette it was not too bad.

A bit naughty but we took a kettle so we could have tea and hot drinks as we wanted. You do get dehydrated skiing so tea and coffee making facilities would add to a near perfect package

Madame, Monsieur,

Thanks very much for your stay and your comment on this website.

The familly is very happy for you because you are happy about the room, the staff, the breakfast, the restaurant, .... and we hope you come back another time in the hotel.

Just for the tea and coffee making facilities, yes you don't have this in the room but during the holiday we propose the "afternoon tea By le Carré Bar" every afternoon with pastry, cakes, tea, hot chocolate, vin chaud, ... for you. But you said that "near perfect package" so then you say that the package is perfect for us it is very important. We note your remark and we will try to find a solution for next year.

Many thanks again,
